Alice POV
I stopped, bending over to catch my breath, 9 down 1 to go, come on you can do this. As I stood up I felt eyes on me. I glanced around but there was nobody. A few more deep breaths and that’s when I felt the hair on the back of my neck start to rise. He’s behind me. I stiffened and glanced back, all I saw was a big man walking my way, I didn’t even look at his face I just bolted. But that smell though, it smelled like a fresh ocean breeze, cologne and something else I can’t put my finger on it. But I will never let anyone near me again. Peter made sure I’m too broken for anyone else.
When I got to my street I glanced around but it was quiet, making my way to the apartment I couldn’t get into my apartment quick enough. Shutting the door I held my breath listening for footsteps, but there was nothing. I slowly slid down the door and put my head on my knees taking a few calming breaths. I’m so f*****g paranoid. That guy probably thinks I’m insane, he was just taking an early morning walk. Dammit, you can’t keep running away.
I got up and took a shower, got dressed in my waitress uniform and I was off to work. I walked the three blocks to the diner and clocked in. I was deep in thought why can’t I forget that guy. The little I saw of him, and that smell. No focus, you can’t get involved again. Devon’s voice startled me when he spoke behind me making me jump.
“Good morning girly, how are you today?” Devon’s booming friendly voice echoed through the empty diner. I turned around putting on a fake smile, trying to hide the fact that he nearly gave me a heart attack.
“Morning Dev, good and you?” He smiled and drew me into a hug.
“Always wonderful girly. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, we’re alive and well. So it’s a great day!” he let go of me and stepped back and I couldn’t help but smile at his positivity. He is a middle aged man, had a hard life but still he’s so positive.
“You’re correct Dev, so what do you want me to do first?” Devon started to give me the run down on everything he needed to be done before we open. I started with my tasks, still having the mysterious man on my mind.
Belmont POV
I watched as she disappeared from sight, standing there her scent still lingering in the air. What the hell just happened? Who was she? Why do I want to touch her? Those turquoise blue eyes and oh goddess that body. It will make the most dignified gentleman commit the most sinful acts. I walked back to the car and drove to my apartment deep in thought, Duke was strangely silent, for once, but I don’t get it. I have lived a lot of years, many women has thrown themselves at me but I only have ever loved one. She was my first and my last, my love, my Eveline, even so with her although I loved her, I have never felt this way.
As I entered the apartment Mihai was sitting at the dining room table busy with I don’t know emails or whatever.
“Good morning highness, did you enjoy your run?” he asked getting up. I looked at him dumbfounded. I guess he knew something was wrong because his friendly face immediately was covered with concern.
“Sir are you alright? Did something happen?” he handed me a cup of coffee and took the seat next to me on the couch. I shook my head and looked at him “I uh, I’m not sure Mihai.” Frowning at my own response.
“Sir do you want to tell me?” he asked, his voice now alarmed. I looked at the man in front of me and sighed. Placing the cup on the coffee table I turned to face him.
“Mihai, I have seen the most beautiful creation the Moon Goddess has ever made and I, now I… ah dammit. I don’t know what is happening.” I ran a hand through my hair in part frustration and part defeat. Mihai sat there silently for a while before he spoke up
“Highness, tell me what happened maybe I can help you.” I laid back and rested my head on the back of the couch recalling the incident for him in the finest detail, feeling a bit embarrassed about the fact that I didn’t have control over my body but I told him everything. When I was done I saw a smile cross his face, but a knowing smile.
“What Mihai? You know her?” I asked hopefully. He chuckled and shook his head his expression turned to amused as he tilted his head slightly looking at me
“You really don’t know what is happening?” he asked.
“No I don’t, Mihai please it feels as if I’m going to go insane, tell me what you know” and his response shocked me for two reasons.
“Belmont, she is your beloved.” He stated smiling from ear to ear.
“She’s my what? And did you just call me by my name?” I asked shocked. He stood and walked to his phone unlocking it tapping a few times then turned the screen towards me. I saw a picture of his family, they looked so happy.
“Yes I called you by your name, because for the first time in all the years I have served by your side this is a friend matter, so I am now your friend Belmont, you are her beloved. You get it?” he sat down again anticipation on his face. And at that moment when I connected the dots Duke and I said in unison, one word that will change the rest of my life.
“Mate”
