Chapter 25: Family Meal

1462 Words
Family's Dinner “My grandmother wanted to invite you to dinner to thank her. I know it will bother you a lot, but since she's old and very determined, I ask for your understanding. Would you consider this as overtime?" Jake lowered his voice pleadingly, begging Aurora. "Then I'll make arrangements." Aurora immediately agreed. She knew her chance had come. Aurora quickly texted Evans to report everything. He received the message and immediately called her to exchange more information. According to what Evans sent to Aurora, Taylor Hunt is Jake's dead sister because Izabella kicked her out of the house. Since then, Izabella has always carried guilt over her niece's death. Because of that, she became more cruel and overbearing. As for Jake, he took advantage of that to control Ms. Izabella is manipulating Thunder Electronics Corporation because she is the largest shareholder of the Group. Aurora feels the family affection of the tycoons. After all, it is just a thin thing like smoke, and material benefits measure all. That night, Aurora herself took a taxi to Jake's house. Going into the mansion, she realized that the rich always have strange tastes. The yellow and green lights run along the two sides of the road, and the colors depicting the countryside appear ghostly. Faintly swaying the scents of grasslands in the air, smells evoke haunting evenings. Aurora recalls the time at the New York City Orphanage. The nights of power outages were not as scary as the scene decorating the garden of Jake's family. Following the maid's instructions, she made her way to the living room on her own, her steady footsteps interrupted by the sound of conversation. Aurora tried to listen to the story, whispering in her ears. The skill of a spy made Aurora accustomed to situations like this. Aurora was outside listening to Jake's way of talking and secretly judged that he was not good and belonged to the ruthless, cruel tycoon class. Aurora smiled, thinking that tonight at least she wouldn't have to eat with the corrupt. It was something that she usually avoided when dealing with clients. After all, it was better to have dinner with humans than with monsters. Aurora confidently entered the room. Jake beamed in, welcoming her as a guest. She returned it with a signature industrial smile that only she had. Aurora's smile made Jake extremely uncomfortable. He felt like she was intentionally putting on an expression of endurance that challenged the limits of his patience. Jake invited her to sit across from him on the polished red wooden lounge chair. Aurora felt that Jake was a bit pompous, but she still had to be welcoming to him. Jake initiates a date by telling her about the life of his poor sister, Taylor Hunt, but Aurora already knows this. Aurora shares her condolences with Jake but then thinks she has nothing to do with Taylor. She spoke in a half-joking voice, half-true, but Jake knew that the real part was higher, so he reluctantly gave a conciliatory smile. Jake's voice was so deep Aurora could feel the sadness inside him. Aurora expressed regret for her words earlier, but she only wanted to tell her sympathy to Taylor Hunt, not Jake or his grandmother. Jake's eyes darkened. He still vividly remembered the day he received the news that Taylor's death had caused him and his family so much pain. Hearing Jake's story, Aurora suddenly felt a strange feeling of emotion. Anyway, she and his sister still have something in common. Both were harmed by the evil one, causing one to lose his life, the other to lose everything, forced to change his identity to survive. And those villains all come from the Hunt family. Jake felt his words falter for the first time. He felt Aurora's offer to take care of Mrs. Izabella was unlikely to be accepted by her, but he had to take a risk because he didn't want his grandmother to become upset. "I don't know how to say it," Jake said, "but I have a non-work-related request for your help." "If it's something outside of work, I usually refuse, but if I can, I'll try." Aurora tried to relax. A spy's senses let her know that this was a request that brought a lot of trouble for herself. Jake put on a pitiful hopeful expression that Aurora never expected: “My grandma misses Taylor so much, and you seem to have something in common with her… so she wants you to be her assistant.” “This seems… beyond my ability and limit. You should know that I don't want to dig into this annoying stuff. I am not your sister's substitute." Aurora pretends to be harsh, but in fact, she is crazy. Wasn't this an opportunity Jake had offered her mouth? But Aurora still had to respond to him calmly. She looked into Jake's eyes. Aurora felt in those eyes the hope, faith, and boundless love Jake had for his grandmother. But Aurora wasn't amused when Jake put her in a passive position as skillfully as ensnaring a delicious prey. Whatever the reason, she wanted fairness in every contract. Although the truth is the opposite. She took a deep breath, did not hesitate, and spoke decisively. Jake looked at Aurora for a long time and then cautiously reached out and pulled a thick bag of money from inside the suit, holding it in both hands and towards Aurora. She knew that Jake had bitten the hook but also bit deeply. Aurora chuckled inwardly and quickly lowered her head to look at him. “I agree, but I want an increase in salary and overtime fee.” Aurora is clear and fluent, true to the style of a world-class professional Crisis Specialist. “I sincerely thank you. You are the benefactor of my family.” In the moment of emotion, Jake grabbed her hands tightly, smiling happily. She smiled wryly, withdrawing her hand defensively. Aurora was not shy, holding a thick bag of money. Her face did not show any emotion, focusing on Jake's eyes. She surprised Jake when he didn't expect her to take the money so easily. “I thank you very much for your help.” Jake feels highly comfortable knowing Aurora is also just a slave to money. He chuckled scornfully. Who doesn't like money? As long as there is money, everyone has to kneel before him. While Jake was engrossed in thinking and enjoying his victory, the rest kept silent and bored. Inside the kitchen, Mrs. Izabella had been waiting for a while and was delighted that Aurora had agreed. “Taylor! My Taylor.” Mrs. Izabella came quickly and happily hugged Aurora despite being about to choke in her arms. “Lady… my name is Aurora, not Taylor. I hope you understand." She said, opposite Jake sneered, his smile in her eyes slowly turning ugly. “Didn't Jake give you the money already? I don't care if you're Aurora or anyone else… but you have to be Taylor by my side. Did you understand what she said? This is the service I bought from you!” Izabella loosened her grip. She looked at her with loving eyes. Then she suddenly spoke in a very dangerous voice. Aurora was not surprised by her words. She looked at Izabella and then smiled softly, though awkwardly: “Yes… I'm Taylor. But I'm swamped these days, so Jake will be the one to take care of Grandma more. Do you agree or not?" "Stupid Jake can't take care of me better than Taylor." Mrs. Izabella turned and pointed her finger at Jake's face, and he was momentarily stunned. Aurora laughed after her reproach. She repeated the four words, 'stupid boy', much to Jake's displeasure. Aurora caressed Mrs. Izabella's hand. She nodded with a smile, her eyes shining with utter joy. She pulled her to her feet, walked quickly into the kitchen, and motioned to the maids to prepare the food. American delicacies - especially typical New Hampshire foods- are carefully arranged on the table, making Aurora a little greedy. Aurora could experience a true family meal for the first time in her life, so she couldn't help but be surprised and touched. Izabella always had a smile, sparkling eyes looking at Aurora. The housekeeper signaled the cook to take a white porcelain cup and immediately brought it to her. Mrs. Izabella stood up, reaching out and pushing a plate of delicious, shiny food toward Aurora. The butler and Jake looked at each other, smiling. Both of them turned their eyes to Mrs. Izabella. It's been a long time since the whole family saw her as happy as she is today. Izabella nodded and smiled enthusiastically like a child.
