Chapter 24: It's Like Pretending

1531 Words
With no other choice, Aurora pretended to react like an average person. She appeared a little scared and bewildered, but in her heart, she expected many other things. “Last night, you fainted, but we temporarily brought you here to rest because we could not contact your relatives. We thank you for not being afraid to risk helping our hostess.” The woman smiled, explaining in detail what happened so that Aurora could understand. "I know. It's nothing, anyway." She smiled in response. The woman finished speaking, bowed her head, and moved out. The woman had just left and quickly took her bag to check the essential documents and objects. After a full test, Aurora immediately used a few microchips that Evans had prepared. She carefully mounted them in rather discreet locations inside the room. After that, Aurora acted as normal as possible and quickly left. Aurora's mission is to approach Izabella Hunt stealthily - Jake's grandmother, to find a way to get information and create a solid relationship. Next, Aurora will build the Hunt family's trust in her. In addition, Aurora also had to secretly install eavesdropping devices as well as micro-tracing tools into this giant mansion. Since everything had to be installed manually, Aurora had to plunge into this impossible task, especially since Jake was keeping an eye on her. It is not difficult for Aurora to recognize the maids at this villa. She had to ask a woman with a trustworthy face to lead her to the gate. The woman politely had a deep expression like a stone statue, but she still kindly guided her. Aurora and her maid go through large rooms, cleverly designed in traditional American architecture but still European, creating a feeling of closeness to people. She went outside the gate, passing a sleek black car. The car slithered forward and stopped. From the car, a young man stepped out of a cobalt blue suit that was a bit glossy like a cloud on the sea. The boy quickly approached Aurora. She immediately recognized it as Jake. He looked at her with an unsurprised look. It seemed he knew what was happening in the street but tried to hide his thoughts. Aurora also tries to act as if she's surprised to see him here. Jake looked at Aurora for a long time and then began to say, “I feel incredibly grateful to you for saving my grandmother, even though I know she doesn't need anyone's help. This can also cause trouble for you. If you still feel tired, I hope you will stay for a few more days to recuperate. I don't know if this is an arrangement of fate or your own, but I still have to thank you very much." Jake smiled, a sunny smile on his face that could turn a cold winter night into a warm summer day. But Aurora feels that behind that smile is a great fake. She had seen how much the attitude on his face changed. Aurora was also his victim, so she couldn't help but be wary of him. Aurora kept the industrial smile on her lips and flatly refused. “Ah, no, I have work to do. I can’t bother you anymore.” These days, especially Aurora, men can only say two words, 'fear'. "I can take you home." Jake stepped back, reaching for the car, inviting her to get in the car. But what Jake wants is more than just take Aurora home. And she recognized it as a truism of his horrible, condom-smelly lifestyle. "Thank you. I know how to call a taxi for myself.” Aurora flatly refused a second time. Jake looked at Aurora with a severe face. He was trying to use his power to suppress her, but this method was barely able to affect a tough guy like her. Aurora stepped out of the gate, then breathed a sigh of relief. She picked up the phone to search for regular contact and hesitated as if she didn't want to click. At this point, any of her actions can become a bright spot in Jake's eyes. Especially after she heard his hazardous and seemingly hidden words, Aurora stood looking at a corner of the street, capturing the light radiating from the long towering lampposts and silently leaning trees. She suddenly felt strangely lonely… an orphan like her couldn't understand how she could have come to this day after so many hardships and dangers that seemed like she had lost her life. Jake went to the dining room, listening to the servants' reports about Aurora. He sat reading her profile report like he was brooding over some precious book. Of course, Jake remembered to enjoy the aroma of the steaming dishes that the servants had prepared for him. From a distance, Mrs. Izabella quickly sat on the chair, her face happy, but every step she took had an invisible aura that made the maids avoid her. “Grandma, how are you? Don't wander around anymore. I don't have time to send someone to follow you. They are busy with a lot of other things.” Jake only needed to hear the sound of Izabella's rapid footsteps knocking on the wooden floor, and he would have dropped the newspaper on the table. “I'm fine now. But where's my Taylor?" She smiled, and a curious face asked Jake. "Taylor?" Surprised, he turned to look at the maid. "Mrs. President, madam always says Miss Aurora is the mistress." The maid bent down and whispered to Jake. He looked at his grandmother in shock, feeling pity. He also felt sad, but suddenly sudden anger rose in his heart. “How many times have I told you… Taylor was dead! And the other girl's name is Aurora - a crisis handling specialist of the Corporation. I remind you one last time, don't cause any more trouble. If not, I'll put you in a nursing home." Everyone thought that Jake lowered his voice and begged Grandma. However, he suddenly scolded Izabella Hunt. The maids quickly left the dining room to leave Jake and her alone. “Grandma doesn't care if she's Aurora or anyone else. But if you can't bring her back here, I will use my shareholder rights to destroy Thunder Electronics Corporation. Don't force me to confront you because I know it's an unequal battle." Izabella Hunt shouted. She slammed her hand on the table and started scolding Jake as if she wanted to strike him. Jake just listened silently for a long time and then looked at Izabella with angry eyes. He spoke slowly but sharply, words like nailing to Izabella's heart: "Isn't it you who killed Taylor? If you hadn't kicked her out of the house, she wouldn't have been in a car accident… Stop pretending to be sorry!” Izabella began to shed tears, her face sad. Jake's words hurt her. All that night, Izabella just stayed in her room, not eating, crying like a baby. Jake, from the outside, could only sigh. Suddenly, nostalgia for his little sister surged. He slowly walked up to the terrace, sitting alone with a cup of coffee and a cigarette, gnawing at the wound on his own. Some scars just need to be touched to make the whole body ache. Jake looked into the distance and suddenly thought about Aurora: "Is there such a coincidence in the world?" The following day, the Chairman of Thunder Electronics Corporation's room was located on the top floor of the Thunder Electronics building. Jake was present very early. He sat still on the chair and looked out the window, his eyes far away. The door to the room slowly opened. Jake glanced at the guy approaching: "Have you investigated her background?" “Yes, sir.” Billy - Jake's assistant, goes to show him a dark blue shirt cover. Jake took it, attentively flipping through each A4 page filled with information. “Is she an orphan? So the parents are all dead? Aren't there any more brothers and sisters?" Jake glanced at Billy with a strange suspicion about Aurora in his heart. “Yes, I am still investigating, but the identities of the loved ones are invisible, disappearing into the air. All of them are dead. It seems that her life has not been easy lately. Billy answered softly, with a hint of pity in his words that made Jake uncomfortable. “For the time being, you can continue to investigate secretly.” Jake handed the cover back to Gabriel Hamilton. Billy nodded and retreated outside. Jake couldn't help but call Aurora. “Aurora, I need your help with something. This is very important to me, and I would be thrilled if you could take some time to have dinner with my family.” Jake said in an urgent voice. Aurora always feels uncomfortable talking to Jake. She replied in the coldest voice possible: “Yes, Mr. Jake. I am very pleased to be able to help you. If it is work-related, I can send you an email address for you to contact me. As for things that are not related to work, I would like to refuse."
