Eilith’s POV-
Moving into a three-floor London townhouse was quite an experience. The traffic and chaos of London, crossed by the chaos of moving, was stressful. Josh had enlisted some of his friends to help make the move faster, but it was still stressful. Josh and Kelly had both banned me from doing anything other than emptying boxes or suitcases. They did not let me wheel my suitcase in, let alone lift anything. They were making sure I followed my doctor’s orders to the letter. Josh and his friend got in the furniture that they had brought with them, and then my delivery of furniture for my room and some bits as gifts for Josh and Kelly for their home, once it arrived. They even began building the furniture. So, Kelly and I unboxed the kitchen things, and packed them away.
As we were unpacking, Kelly said, “I think we should go to the shop soon, and fill these cupboards, fridge, and freezer.”
I nodded, “We should, but it is almost lunchtime, so maybe we should order takeaway to be delivered here. At least we can eat, and so can Josh and his friends. Give us the energy to keep unpacking.”
Josh walked in and said, “Great idea. I was coming to ask what the plan was for food and drinks.”
“What did you and the guys want,” Kelly asked.
“Why not order a Chinese takeaway? I fancy having some egg fried rice, spring rolls, and sweet and sour chicken,” I chuckled.
“Hungry much,” Kelly chuckled.
I nodded, “Hospital food for the past few days was just... yuck! I need real food that tastes great.”
“Let me ask the guys. If they say yes, I will start an order, get theirs and mine in the cart, and then I will come and get your orders. I will make sure to order a lot of drinks too. I will be right back,” Josh said.
Kelly and I both nodded. Kelly said, “I think we should make a shopping list. Why don’t you do that saves you reaching to put things in the cupboard? Don’t think I haven’t noticed you grimacing but trying not to make a sound at times. Sit down, write a list, and I can handle this.”
“Alright, but once I have done this list, empty the boxes on to the side, and I can unwrap things while I am sitting down,” I suggested.
“That is a good idea. I can do that, but first rest and get that list done,” she smiled.
I nodded, and took a seat, and then Kelly gave me a notepad and pen. I began writing a list of things that we needed. Kelly even gave me a few ideas to add to the list, while she continued unpacking the kitchen utensils. My phone buzzed on the side quite loudly. I turned to look at it, and Kelly asked, “Who was that?”
I looked at my phone. My eyes widened, and I said, “I have an interview.”
“That is great news. Who is it with? When is it? What is the position,” she asked.
“Crown Industries. The position was for an Executive’s Personal Assistant. It is for the day after tomorrow,” I replied.
“Crown Industries. The company that only started twelve years ago. The one that specializes in technology,” she said.
I nodded, “Technology for home, gaming, medical, and military. Yes, that very company.”
“Christ, that company has grown and become extremely important in the UK. It has become quite a prestige company to work for, and those positions are much sort after, because of their treatment of their staff members,” Kelly said.
“I know they are a great company to work for, and the pay is great,” I told her.
“Well, tomorrow, you can rest and prepare for your interview,” Kelly smiled.
“What interview,” Josh interjected, walking back into the room, with the food and drinks order.
He was followed by all his friends that had come to help us today. I mostly avoided eye contact with them, because of what happened to me. I still had a nasty bruise on my face. Kelly smiled, “Eilith has an interview with Crown Industries, for a position as an Executive’s Personal Assistant.”
“What really? That is great news, when is it,” Josh asked.
“The day after tomorrow,” I replied.
“Are you sure you are ready for an interview? You are still recovering from your injuries, your bruise on your face,” he said.
“Don’t worry about that, I will help Eilith with her make-up on that day, to ensure they do not see the bruise,” Kelly smiled.
“Thank you, Kelly,” I smiled.
“Eilith, congratulations on getting an interview with that company. Please don’t feel offended by what I said,” Josh said.
I shook my head, “I am not offended. I know you said that out of concern for me. But I need to keep myself busy. Idle thoughts will not help me any in dealing with healing physically and mentally.”
“Will you be seeing a psychologist to talk out what happened to you,” Kelly asked, while Josh and his friends sorted out the food and drinks.
“I have an appointment booked with a well-respected psychologist in a weeks’ time,” I told her.
“That is good. Let’s sit down and eat for now,” Josh said.
So, we did exactly that. Josh had noticed for the first time the list I had been writing, and asked, “What is that?”
“Shopping list, we need to get food and drinks, other necessities,” I said.
“Have you got alcohol on the list? And cleaning products,” Josh asked.
I chuckled, “Trust you to want alcohol. I will put it down. Cleaning products, I have written down already.”
“Have you heard anything further from the Detective Inspector,” Josh inquired.
I shook my head, “The last I heard from him, my ex had been released on bail, but the restraining order was granted, and he is not allowed to get within two hundred feet of me or my grandparents.”
“Did you tell your grandparents,” Kelly asked.
I nodded, “I did tell them. They are keeping their eyes peeled for him. They want him to be in prison as much as we do.”
“I was hoping you would say your grandparents had ties with someone who might be able to help you,” Kelly said.
“They do. But it whether their ties can help them, as their ties have retired,” I responded.
“What do you mean,” Josh asked.
“I mean my grandfather is close friends with the last chief of police. They play golf once every couple of weeks. They are playing golf this coming weekend. But I do not know if the retired chief of police can do anything. So, for now, we just keep going with what we know and what we can do,” I said.
They nodded and continued to eat our food. After we finished eating, Josh and the guys continued to build the rest of the furniture. Kelly unboxed the last of the kitchen items. Then we went to the shops to get everything we needed and extra things that were not on the original list that I had written. I paid for it all. Kelly did protest about it, but backed off. I insisted on paying for this shopping because they didn’t want any rent from me. I was even going to transfer a couple of hundred to them a month, whether they liked it or not. It was just to cover my use of the water, electricity, gas, and the internet. With prices in London and the wealth that Kelly and Josh have, they would be able to live comfortably here but not luxuriously, so I wanted to help and take the pressure off them. I would pay money towards the bills, and I would pay for groceries as much as I could. The reason I explained to Kelly, was because they were letting me live there rent-free, so contributing to bills and buying groceries is no big deal, given all they are doing for me by letting me move in here, when they know there is the possibility for danger.
When we returned, the guys had got the television, CCTV cameras, Ring doorbell, internet, and the desktop computer all set up. So, they helped bring in all the shopping, and helped us pack it away. Josh and his friends decided to sit and drink some beer while they watched some football. Kelly and I went and unpacked our things, taking it in turns. We sorted Kelly’s stuff out first, and then we sorted my stuff out next. I even had a safe delivered and placed in the walk-in wardrobe in my bedroom, so that I could put any prized possessions and important documents in them.
After finishing unpacking, we ordered dinner for ourselves. Mostly because we were all too tired to cook. I arranged with Kelly for her to check my bandages on my back, before I went to bed. I needed to change them regularly and keep an eye on them to make sure they stayed clean. She agreed to help. As well as to help me in the bathroom in the morning to shower. For now, I will work on studying for the company I have an interview for. I need to make sure that I know as much as I can, so that I can answer their questions fully and honestly. I want to succeed. Getting a job is the first step for me to rebuilding my life.
