Eilith’s POV-
It has been a week since I found out I got the job at Crown Industries, and today is my very first day working there. I am honestly excited about starting to work there. I stuck to the dress code, I wore a knee-length black pencil skirt, with a matching blazer, and I had on a white blouse beneath the blazer. I wore black pumps. After what happened to me, I was not quite confident wearing high heels, if I fell and ended up hindering my healing. The bruise on my face was almost completely healed by now, so I didn’t need as much make-up to cover it up. My ribs still hurt quite a bit, but that is because the bone was cracked. They are getting better. It just hurts if I laugh too hard now. A couple of days ago, I had the stitches taken out of the wounds on my back, as they have healed together well, I must keep them covered while at work, because they are still covered by scabs. All things considered; I am healing very well. Kelly and Josh have continued being my absolute rock. My grandparents call to check in on me every day.
I was asked to arrive at work by 8am, but I deliberately got dropped off thirty minutes early. I did notice someone watching me. It was a man that I didn’t recognize, but he must have just been staring because I was new here. He was kind enough to hold the door open for me, and let me in. Crown Industries owns an entire office building. I am supposedly working on the second from top floor, as that is the Executives' office floor. The top floor was for the CEO, the Executive boardroom, and the office of the CEO’s personal assistant. I was sent a floor layout and what was on each floor in the building, there was a total of nine floors, including the ground floor. I thanked the man who opened the door for me, before walking over to the front desk. The man, who held the door open, had security clearance, because he just tapped his card on his lanyard, and went through the security gates and metal detectors.
The receptionist at the desk was on the phone, so I patiently waited for her to end the call, to help me. She acknowledged that I was there. I read the name on her name tag, which hung on a lanyard around her neck. Her name was Molly. I was going to make sure I remembered that because she would be the first person I see every morning when I walk into this building. She finished her phone call, and looked up at me, “Good Morning, how can I help you?”
“Good morning, Molly. I hope that it’s okay for me to call you by your first name. I couldn’t quite see your last name on your lanyard. Today is my first day. I am working on the executive’s floor, as a personal assistant,” I responded to her, with a smile.
Her smile grew wide, as she said, “No one ever remembers my name, but Molly is fine, thank you for asking. I heard you were starting today at 8am. Your name is Miss Eilith Clarke, correct?”
I nodded, “But please call me Eilith. I know I am here early.”
“You are a bit. But I completely understand, with a position like yours, anyone would want to make a good first impression. Do not worry, I will call Mrs Walker and inform her of your arrival, just take a seat on the chairs over there,” she smiled.
“Thank you, Molly. It was nice meeting you,” I smiled, before taking a seat.
Molly smiled, and picked up the phone, and began dialing Mrs Walker. They talked briefly, before hanging up the phone. Molly informed me that Mrs Walker was on her way down. Ten minutes later, a woman in her fifties stepped out of the elevator. Molly saw the lady and then looked at me. Her eyes darted towards the lady. I knew she was trying to slyly let me know that this lady was Mrs Walker. I stood up, and the lady came straight towards me. She was well-dressed, barely any wrinkles, and dark brown hair with a silver edge around her face. She smiled at me, offering her hand to me, “Miss Clarke, it is such a pleasure to finally meet you. I was quite surprised to hear you had come in early. But it does give us a head start on getting your security badge and showing you the system you will be working with, as well as giving you a tour. We also have some people to introduce you too.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Mrs Walker. But please call me, Eilith. I am ready to get started,” I said as I shook her hand.
We let go of each other’s hands, as she said, “Okay, well Eilith, if you follow me, I will get you through security and to the security office. They should have your security badge ready for you to collect. Then I can give you a tour.”
I nodded, “Lead the way.”
I followed her through the security gates, and then she led me to the security office. A man stood up and approached Mrs Walker immediately, and asked, “Mrs Walker, what can I do you for?”
“Mr Mason, this is the new Executive’s Personal Assistant, Miss Eilith Clarke. Eilith, this is Mr Mason, he is the head of security for the entire building,” Mrs Walker gestured to me and then to Mr Mason.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr Mason,” I said, offering my hand to him.
He shook it, “It is a pleasure to meet you, as well, Eilith. I take it that is what you prefer to be called,” he responded.
I nodded, and he smiled at me, as Mrs Walker said, “We are here to collect Eilith’s security lanyard. So, she can come and go from the office building far more easily.”
“Ah, yes. I have that on my desk, let me grab it for you,” he said, dashing off to his desk.
He returned a moment later, with the lanyard, and the security card, which had my name and picture on it. He handed me the lanyard, and said, “Because of your position, this will get you into any of the restricted access rooms. That is because you need to be able to enter with the executives and CEO when you look at a new product. It will give you access to and from the building. Also, please make sure that you scan it every time you enter or leave a room, unless it is an emergency. It is to ensure we know how many are in a room, during emergency evacuations, so we can aid head counts and to inform authorities if anyone is missing. You are allowed to come and go from the building as many times as you wish during the day. There is no limit. Remember to always keep this with you, and if you suspect it has been tampered with, please inform myself or anyone else in this room, so we can check into it.”
“Thank you very much,” I took the lanyard and put it around my neck.
“Is there anything else I can help you with,” he smiled.
“No, thank you, Mr Mason. I need to give Eilith the grand tour,” Mrs Walker said.
“Well, see you both soon,” Mr Mason waved us both out.
Mrs Walker led me to the elevators. Pressing the button and waiting for the doors to open. Once they opened, Mrs Walker allowed me to step inside first, before following me in.
