Eilith’s POV-
Mrs Walker pressed the button with the number eight on it, as the elevator doors began to close. The décor in the elevator was almost hotel-like, which was unusual for an office building. There was a moment of silence as we waited for the elevator to begin ascending through the floors, then she began speaking again.
“Well, did you study the floor plans,” she asked.
I nodded, “I did, indeed. The top floor has the CEO and his Personal Assistant’s offices, and the Executive boardroom. The second from top floor is the offices of the Executives and their Personal Assistants. The floors descend in this order; HR, advertising and press releases, then gaming, then war technology, then medical technology, then everyday technology. The final floor is the first floor, which contains reception and security.”
“Excellent. I am very impressed you can remember all of that. But there will be a floor plan and extension numbers on your desk, if you need them desperately. We mostly send emails, and only call when necessary. Like if we need an immediate answer, or if we need to call a taxi or make reservations. So, we won’t do too much of a tour. You will mostly only go to those floors if instructed specifically by your executive. Or they will tell you to call those floors and tell them to email specific information to you. Or you will go to those floors with us all,” she explained.
“That is fine, I will take the floor plan with me to make sure I do not get lost, if I have to go to any of them,” I said.
“That is a good idea. Now, I will take you to the Executives floor, and I will show you the break room, where you can make coffees and teas, as well as sit to have your lunch, but you can have your lunch at your desk as well. Did you bring your own coffee mug,” she asked?
I nodded, “I did bring a thermal mug with a lid, so it stays warmer for longer.”
“I have the same. I will introduce you to the other Executive Personal Assistants, as you will see them most in the break room. But eventually, you will meet all the executives, the CEO, and his Personal Assistant. There are six executives, including me. You are going to be working with Mr Ed Hicks. He is the executive in charge of gaming and the technology that goes with it. Are you knowledgeable about gaming and the technology that is used,” she informed me?
I nodded, “Gaming was one of the ways. I relaxed and spent time with my friends. So, I know a fair bit, and I keep up to date with the expanding world of gaming.”
“Well, maybe you will be able to help Mr Hicks, he has been struggling lately to get a decent game off the ground,” she whispered.
That sounds like Mr Hicks’ department has not been doing as well as others. So, I suspect I will have my work cut out for me, to help get this department up off the ground. We exited the elevator on the second from top floor, into a lobby area. She gestured to an umbrella rack with names on it and told me that is where we would place umbrellas if we used them on rainy days. She then led me through the double glass doors, and showed me where the toilets were, and the copier and printer were. Then she led me to the break room. There were six people in there, including the guy who held the door open for me and had been staring at me outside. Everyone greeted Mrs Walker, and she greeted everyone else, before introducing me, “This is Miss Eilith Clarke, she prefers to be called Eilith. She is going to be Mr Hicks’ new personal assistant. I hope you can all introduce yourselves to her and welcome her here. Cameron, I am surprised to see you down here. Is there a particular reason for your visit?”
“Well, I heard we had a new personal assistant starting today, and I wanted to introduce myself. I also wanted to speak with you, Mrs Walker. Eilith, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am Cameron Jones, the CEO’s personal assistant, and his best friend outside of work. If you have any problems, you are welcome to come and ask me. My office is on the floor above,” he smiled, offering me his hand.
He was quite handsome and didn’t look that much older than me. I took his hand and shook it, “It is a pleasure to meet you.”
“Shall we go to my office and talk quickly, Cameron,” Mrs Walker asked.
He nodded, letting go of my hand, and left the room with Mrs Walker. The other five came over to me. The first was a brunette lady, in her forties. She smiled, “I am Ellie, Mrs Walker’s personal assistant. It is nice to meet you.”
A black-haired man, wearing glasses, in his early twenties, said, “I am Steven, Mr Wilkinson’s personal assistant, he oversees military technology and programs. It is nice to meet you.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Miss Blake’s personal assistant, she is in charge of technology and programs. My name is Amy,” another girl smiled at me.
A grey-haired lady in her late fifties smiled sweetly, “My name is Carol. I am Mr Murphy’s personal assistant; he oversees home technology. It is nice to meet you.”
Finally, there was another lady in her forties, that said, “My name is Cheryl. I am Mr David’s personal assistant; he oversees advertising and press releases. It is a pleasure to meet you.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you all. So, how do you find it working here,” I asked.
They all looked at each other, with Cheryl saying, “We all love working here.”
“You are going to be working with Mr Hicks. Have you met him yet,” Carol asked, in her sweet old lady voice?
“I haven’t met him yet, is he nice to work with,” I inquired.
They all looked at each other, but before any of them could respond, Mrs Walker walked back into the room, and Carol whispered, “Good luck working with him.”
It made my brow furrow. Mrs Walker smiled, “Let’s introduce you to Mr Hicks.”
She took me to meet Mr Hicks. Honestly meeting him, I got creep vibes from him. He held my hand a little too long, that I had to snatch it back from him. His eyes were wondering up and down me. I assumed he was trying to get a measure of the kind of person I was. I also didn’t want to assume that he was gawking at me. Mrs Walker showed me how to use the system and where my office was. My office was in front of Mr Hicks' office. She showed me how to set up my company account and company email. Though they had given me an email address, I just needed to put a password, so that it was secure, and only I could access it. After that, she let me get settled in, and then Mr Hicks gave me some tasks to do. There was quite a bit for me to catch up on. But I got into the swing of it quite quickly. This was easy compared to my last job. That place was in shambles when I started there. He didn’t linger too long, but I did notice his eyes on me several times. But I wrote that if maybe he was just trying to check I wasn’t struggling with the work that I had to do. Something told me it was because he was being creepy. I just hope that it was the latter, and he was just checking that I wasn’t struggling with the work.
