“You don’t look alright” I said taking a seat next to her whilst Mason went to get another drink.
“It’s Rory.......he’s very loud....and angry.” Jade whimpered.
“I’m sure he’s just stressed” I said trying to reassure her.
“He hit me Kass! He hit me!” She began to cry loudly.
“Why don’t you come up to my room there’s a couch. You can sleep there if you’re not comfortable on your own?” I explained.
“Okay.” Jade sniffled quietly.
“Mason we’re going upstairs, okay? See you in a bit.” I called to him waving and he nodded at me. I climbed the stairs with Jade until we reached my room. “Let’s watch a film” I tried.
“Can I have a drink?” Jade quietly asked.
“Yes, what do you want?” I asked sounding almost like a waitress. She looked puzzled about what to drink so I made a quick suggestion.“I have an espresso machine, it makes all kinds of drinks: Hot chocolate, coffee, and espressos of course.” I smiled.
“Hot chocolate please!” She begged. It was a classic for us to drink together every weekend. I stuck on the T.V and made Jade and I a hot-chocolate. We relaxed for a while and then Mason showed up.
“Howdy Partners!” Mason said and walked in wearing cowboy boots and a straw hat. We looked at him oddly for a couple of seconds until he spoke.“What? They were doing like dancing downstairs.” He smirked and soon we were all laughing together as we watched the flashing screen in front of us. After hours of it we finally grew tired and fell asleep leaving the room in a mess.
———
“Stay away from her!” Someone screamed with anger followed by another scream from someone else.
I jolted awake instantly shouting out.
“What’s happening?” I asked out either to myself or my friends.
“Is everyone okay?” Mason called. I was about to open the door but Jade bet me to it. We rushed downstairs and into the crowd surrounding Matt who was on the floor with what looks like a broken leg.
“Oh my god.” I whispered under my breath. Matt was wriggling around in pain as I crouched down near him. “What happened?” I asked once more.Matt was trying to speak but Jason stood in the way.
“He must have slipped and fell. Right Matt?” Jason raised an eyebrow at the last part. Matt faintly nodded at him and I suspiciously frowned. I knew I would get shot for ever even disagreeing with an Alpha, so I went along with it. A pack doctor shuffled through to help.
“He’s fallen, and I think his leg is broken.” I explained to the doctor who nodded back at me. “You’ll be okay, trust me.” I promised him, gently pressing a kiss into his cheek. I could feel Mason and Jason’s eyes boring into the back of my head.
“Looks like you can’t take part in the Chase now.” Jason smirked.
“Yeah it looks messed up.” I said truthfully, and he was soon pulled away on a stretcher.
—
I couldn’t stop worrying about Matt, at least it took my mind of the fact that I would be running for hours. I didn’t really want to get chased by anyone even Mason. I don’t even know, anymore should I?
“Mason?” I yelled to him from the lounge which was full of young wolves.
“Yep.” He replied as he came around the corner from the kitchen after having a quick lunch.
“Do you want to go the orchid with me?” I asked politely.
“Of course, Kass.” He walked over to me taking my hand gently. On our walk to the tree he would sometimes gently squeeze my hand and tell me a joke until we sat down. I wasn’t going to wait for him. I was determined to tell him my mind.
“I don’t want you to chase me, I’m not ready for a mate. I love you,but I don’t want to get chased. By anyone. I am not ready. I am going to make it to the safe zone, I should be fine it happens all the time.” I said quickly and looked at my emotionless boyfriend.
“That’s alright, em........just be careful..........try to avoid obsessive males. I can fight a few off for you. I will try my best.” He said fidgeting. Then I did something unexpected, I kissed him. My lips gently brushed his again and again, and he wrapped his arms around my waist tightly. I don’t know what was happening to me. I was too young! No! I was ready! No, I can’t I’m too scared! But I love him! I had to decide. So, my wolf did it for me.
“Mason Chase me.” I said in an animalistic tone my wolf truly showing.
“Are you sure?” Mason said totally confused by my change of personality. I nodded and pulled back from him. I knew he could tell that my wolf had taken over. I shifted and galloped into a bush my white fur becoming lightly coated with dust and dirt.
———
“Jade!” I howled my white fur dangling down.
“I’m over here! Shift back! Alpha Carl’s here!” Jade whisper yelled sticking her head out the corner of the building.
Shit.
“Hi Jade.” I said acting calm as I shifted and patted my clothes down.
“Who’s that?” Rory growled in anger.
“Kassidy, you don’t remember?” Jade laughed, and Rory caught her wrist.
“I’m not stupid she-wolf.” He growled, and she struggled free.
“Jade let’s get out of here.” I encouraged and took her hand leading her away and towards our cages. Cages are the rankings of each female wolf, you stand there until you are released into the forest with a two-minute-head start from the males. Jades cage was close to mine.
“Let’s stand here and wait okay?” She nodded. “When that bell goes.” I pointed to it. “You run in the opposite direction of Rory. He’s a badman and will only hurt you.” I explained.
“I will follow you Kass.” Jade said quietly. Hours passed by my cage being the second highest behind the Alphas niece. I hated the attention I was getting and wanted to disappear or run away.
“Hello, hello, hello.” Our Alpha called. “It’s time now.Remember no berry wiring! Fighting for a mate is allowed but no serious injuries! Ladies, if you make it to the safe zone you are free to go but must come back next year! One minute to get into your cages!”
