Chapter 2: First Target

2306 Words
Exactly at 12 noon, the plane landed at Triton Airport, located in the capital city of the Southern Islands. The Frostclaw pack is the one leading the Southern Islands, with Alpha Aries Hook as the leader. The Werewolf Kingdom is divided into 4 islands; the Southern Islands, the Western Islands, the Northern Islands, and the Eastern Islands. Each island was dominated by 4 major packs. The Southern Islands are the territory of the Frostclaw pack, the Western Islands are led by the Mudfur pack, the Eastern Islands are the home of the Swiftmane pack, and lastly, the Northern Islands, are where the Nightshade pack is located. Although these islands have their significant leaders, it was the Nightshade Pack who stood at the top. They are the strongest pack and hold the most power in the werewolf kingdom. After that talk she had with Amber, Kathryn immediately made arrangements so she could travel back. But for her to have strong support, she acquired four properties that were on the edge of demolition in the Southern Islands. These properties will be the starting point for her path to vengeance. Kathryn brought with her Abby Paige, her personal assistant, and two other directors who would take care of other errands. Currently, the ownership of the new properties is under a different name so as to keep her identity hidden. Since she was already stepping into the lair of giants, she must thread carefully with her actions so as not to alert them. “The Southern Islands are well-known for their culinary and restaurant businesses. Abby, FrostClaw’s Culinary School and Arts are about to host another culinary competition. I want details of each of the participants in 2 days.” Abby nodded her head as she started browsing through her tablet. “Abby?” “Yes, Miss K?” Abby immediately answered her. “Move my flight. I want it 3 days from now,” she said. “Miss K, the fashion show…” “Three days, Abby, clear out my schedule for the whole month. The fashion will be handled by the Director Queen and tell the staff to contact her if something comes up. Also, call the pilot for my private jet and arrange a private bodyguard who will also serve as my driver, it would be better if she was a woman. I want everything ready on the day that I land in Frerton City, in the Southern Islands.” Abby did not say anything else and simply nodded her head at Kathryn’s words while jotting down the things she said. What else could she say when Miss K rarely changes her mind when she decides on something? Kathryn gestured for her secretary to go before slumping back into her chair. A small smile crept onto her lips as she read the magazine highlighting the culinary competition in the Southern Islands. And on the front page, is the smiling face of a young man with a proud-looking expression. It was Arion Hook, the soon-to-be alpha of the Frostclaw pack and the older brother of Alice Hook. “Alice Hook, since you have tormented my sister so deeply, let’s make your brother suffer the same fate.” A small smile crept up her lips as she thought about the things that would happen once she returned. “Miss K, these are the files of the participants for the culinary competition,” Abby said. She stifled a yawn, it was already 2 in the morning yet Kathryn was still working. She didn’t even rest after that long flight and started working. “This is also the names of the judges for the competition, including the sponsors of the said event. As you have expected, the Dalton Family is also sponsoring the event. They have sent a huge amount to make sure that the person they have chosen for the competition will win.” Kathryn took the profile of that person and asked, “Chris Moe? He is a member of the Nightshade pack?” “Yes, Miss K. For this competition, Hook Family did not send any participants for the competition. Since the wedding between the children of the two families is about to happen, they decided to support Chris Moe as well for the competition.” Kathryn continued browsing through the files when something caught her attention. Among all the files she had read, it was only this young man’s profile that had the least portfolio. “Who is this?” Abby glanced at the photo and answered, “This is Cole Donovan. He was admitted to university through a scholarship but the person sponsoring him suddenly stopped, which resulted in him having difficulties continuing his studies. Currently, this competition is his last resort to continue studying at Frostclaw’s culinary school and arts. But his chances of winning are very low.” “Why do you say so? Are his skills that bad?” Abby shook her head in response. “According to my investigation, Cole Donovan is the top when it comes to his class. He could even defeat Chris Moe so easily in cooking battles, but because of Chris Moe’s background and support, it was always Cole Donovan who would lose to him.” Kathryn nodded at the report before smiling at her assistant. “Go back to your place now and rest.” Abby hesitated before nodding, “Miss K, would you like some coffee or tea?” “No, thanks, Abby. I’m fine.” Kathryn said, her eyes glued to the documents in front of her. They had just arrived at the house prepared by Amber in the Southern Islands. However, despite her tiredness, it did not stop her from working on the things that needed to be done for the business she was planning to build those properties she had recently acquired. She heard Abby gathering her things before leaving. The house had two floors and on the upper floor, it had 5 bedrooms while Abby was staying in one of the guest rooms. The house was in the center of Frerton City. Kathryn made sure Abby had left before lifting her head and walking out of the small study. She walked into the luxurious kitchen to grab a bottle of wine before eyeing the floor-to-ceiling windows that acted as a door to the terrace attached to the kitchen. After pouring another cup of wine, Kathryn’s feet took her toward the terrace. It was close to dawn, the sun was peeking from behind the tall building, the faint light slowly illuminating the sky. Yet, the brilliant lights from the capacity still managed to take her breath away. The streets below her seemed to have come alive as if someone had showered the city with glitter by dropping it from the highest building. It was truly magical. Kathryn found herself staring at the tallest building in the city. From what she knew, this building was known as Platinum City. The building had more than 60 floors and there were rumors that the owner of the penthouse in that building was owned by a very mysterious wealthy man. Just like her, the identity of that person was left undiscovered. She withdrew her gaze and went back inside the house to continue working. She still had a long way to go before she could launch the new projects that she had planned for the acquired properties. She needed to work harder before the competition started. *** “President, we have some news from the airport.” A respectful voice was heard from the other end of the line. “Secretary Collins, is that piece of news worthy of disturbing my sleep?” a man’s cold voice echoed inside the room. “My apologies, President Stanford. But, it’s about that woman.” The man jolted up from the bed, his drowsiness leaving him for an instant. “Continue” “A woman with the same features as the one in the photo arrived at the airport in a private jet. It was two hours ago,” Secretary Collins made a deliberate pause. “But..” “But what?” “President, her name wasn’t Reina but Kassidy Jones. President Stanford, I took the initiative to gather more information about Miss Jones and it seems that she had become a well-renowned designer outside the werewolf kingdom.” “Kassidy Jones?” “Yes, Master. Miss Kassidy Jones had established a very famous clothing brand named KK Fashion and everyone knew her by the name Miss K. I had heard that Miss K was planning to expand her business, not just in the fashion industry. If my guess is right, she will be doing business here.” “Miss K? No one saw her face in public before?” Calvin furrowed his brow. He had heard of the KK fashion as many women lined up just to get a dress from that brand. Even the richest people would need to book for a few months just to have her designs. “Yes, Master… Miss K is a low-profile designer who does not appear at functions and banquets. It was always one of her staff who would attend to her. Because of this, not many people have seen her face.” “Continue.” “I also found out something about Miss K after a tedious digging. Miss Kassidy Jones was once engaged to Rhys Dalton from the Nightshade pack. But she mysteriously vanished before their wedding.” Calvin clenched his jaws at his secretary’s words. “Good. I want the full report. Hold on… I want the full details right now.” “President, right now?” his secretary asked. “Yes, Secretary Paul. Right now. From Kassidy Jones’s past to the present. I want everything that happened to her!” he answered before abruptly cutting off the call. He looked at the time on his phone and it was three in the morning. Calvin dragged his feet out of his king-sized bed and wore a black robe. He went ahead and poured himself a glass of whiskey to wake him up from his stupor. The burn of the whiskey instantly made him more alert and he finally managed to process the words he had just heard from his secretary. He downed another glass of whiskey as if hoping to find the answer to the questions that had long hunted him. “Kassidy Jones…” he thought out loud before walking towards the terrace of his penthouse. “Is that the reason why I wasn’t able to find you all these years? Because you have changed your name?” Calvin scoffed as he opened the email he had received on his phone. It was a photo of a woman wearing a black dress walking down from the private jet. Her hand held her blonde hair back, trying to stop it from dancing with the wind. Calvin’s gaze instantly darkened when he swiped at the next photo. It was Kassidy Jones walking away from the jet. Everything about her still looked the same from that memory he had of hers except for her dull eyes that seemed to have lost all the colors in them. It was supposedly full of life and vitality when he met her 10 years ago, but even if her lips were curved up in a smile, nothing seemed so sincere. Her eyes were telling him differently. “Kassidy Jones… Reina” he murmured, “Finally, I found you.” His gaze turned towards the dark clouds as if it was beyond his reach. The peacefulness that this penthouse is giving is the main reason why he had chosen to live there. *** “President Calvin, I have the reports of Miss Kassidy Jones’s affairs for the past 10 years,” Secretary Collins said he had spent the entire night collecting information about this woman. “Miss Kassidy has been living in the Northern Islands for 10 years as a fashion designer in Nightshade Enterprise. That’s where she met Mr. Rhys Dalton, the youngest son of Alpha Raoul of Nightshade Pack. 3 years later, they were about to get married but a sudden turn of events happened. Miss Kassidy vanished in thin air and no one was able to find her, which made the public think that she had run away with another man.” “Why did she suddenly vanish?” Calvin asked. “Didn’t her family look for her?” “Miss Kassidy was an orphan and she did not have any relatives, that’s what was registered on her profile. Her sudden disappearance, I was quite confused when I learned about it. There’s something that did not mix up.” “What is it?” “This was mere speculation as there was no evidence to support it. According to the servants and those that were acquainted with Mr. Rhys and Miss Kassidy couldn’t escape or run away. The only reason that she vanished is that she was dead. Some servants even heard a woman crying in the night in Dalton’s Mansion, begging to be freed 3 years ago.” “That woman’s cries match the time Ms. Kassidy disappeared. So, they guessed that the woman in the mansion's basement must be Ms. Kassidy herself… It had been going on for almost a month when the voice suddenly stopped. So, they speculated that Ms. Kassidy must have died already.” Calvin’s fist clenched as her voice turned colder than usual, “So what are you implying? That she is already dead?” “President, I think you need to have a look at this.” Secretary Collins handed another stack of paper which he had been hard to find. “That lady might not be Ms. Kassidy, but Ms. Kathryn, her twin sister.”
