Chapter 10

1630 Words
It’s Saturday afternoon and I have just finished editing the contract in time for Allan to arrive. Amelia can’t find out about this being my idea because she will hate me forever. I know that because Rickie has had a pretty big bounty on Allan’s head, she is going to now be used as compensation and Allan can’t protect her from what Rickie is capable of doing. Rickie is considered to be a big supplier when it comes to high class drugs. He is involved with a lot of drug dealers who have extremely rough reputations. Amelia will never be safe with Allan around, he isn’t exactly strong mentally or physically and Rickie has a habit of using family against his vendettas. Amelia is his pride and joy and I can’t let him be her protection when she’s in that amount of danger.  Allan entered the office with a regretful look on his face. I could already tell he was having doubts about signing this contract but it’s for Amelia’s own good and it gives him a fresh start. He walked over, shook my hand and sat down opposite me.  “I’ve drawn up this contract carefully, including benefits for both of us. Read through it and sign your name at the bottom” I instructed bluntly.  He took the contract from me and read through it delicately. I tapped my foot on the floor with anticipation. I know that Amelia has gone to the bar again today, so there is no chance of her walking in. Nico saw her leave about an hour ago and she will be there for a while.  Allan took his time to read every word on the page and then scrunched his face up.  “I can’t even say goodbye?!” He exclaimed, lowering the page from in front of his face. “If Amelia knows you’re moving away, she’s going to ask a hell of a lot questions. I don’t want her knowing the extent of Rickie’s desire to make you pay for your mistakes. It’s best that she knows as little as possible when it comes to him” I explained. Allan’s eyes fell to the page, but he just stared.  “She’s my daughter” he replied in a low voice. “Exactly, then you understand just how important it is to keep in the dark with this” I concluded.  He took in a deep breath and continued to read. When he got to the end, he grumbled slightly and reached over to grab the pen in front of me. With a flick of his wrist, he scribbled at the bottom and slammed the pen onto the page. I stood up and straightened my white, smart shirt.  “Please, just take care of her” he begged, stumbling to his feet. “Always” I replied and shook his hand.  With a click of the latch, the door swung open and Amelia was standing there with her hands on her hips. She scowled at me and Allan, her eyes flicking between us as our hands were clasped.  “Does someone want to explain what this is about?!” She asked with a rumble to her tone. I let out a long sigh and lowered my gaze. Busted! “This is private Amelia, why are you back here?” I asked.  “I forgot my phone and thought I would come and give you a kiss since I missed you this morning” she replied. Allan walked over to her and stroked her face lovingly. “My girl” he whispered with a tear in his eye. “What’s going on dad?” She pressured and he turned to me for permission to explain, I gave him a stern look of dismissal. “I love you, don’t ever forget that” he continued.  “I know about your debt dad, I know that you owe Rickie a lot of money and why you owe him so much. So will someone please just tell me what the f**k is going on?!” She shouted with impatience. f**k, how did she find out about it? “Amelia, I’ve made a deal to pay off your dads debt”. She tensed her jaw at me and opened her mouth to snap, but Allan gained her attention before she could.  “I’m in a lot of trouble Amelia and I’ve been doing everything I can to make it right. That means I’ve had to make sacrifices for my family...” he paused.  “Why didn’t you just get out when you could? Why did you have to get involved with transferring drugs dad?” she whined.  Transferring drugs?! Amelia knows a lot more than I do about this which worries me. What else does she know when it comes to the sort of business Rickie is involved in? She has an idea of how dangerous this man is and yet she doesn’t seem phased by him which indicates to me that she hasn’t heard of the disgraceful things he’s done for revenge.  “Me and your mother are so incredibly proud of you” he finished, ignoring her and Amelia’s confusion grew. “Why does it feel like you’re saying goodbye for good?” She clocked and I cleared my throat. “We’ve made a deal Amelia” I interrupted, repeating myself.  “So you keep saying, are you going to tell me about this deal or am I going to have to find out for myself?” She threatened. “I’m going to take your mother and we are going to go away” Allan said remorsefully.  “When are you coming back?”. Allan bowed his head in shame. “We’re not sweetheart” he admitted. Amelia’s mouth dropped in shock and I watched the anger build inside of her. “You’re abandoning me?!” She accused and Allan’s head shot up. “No! We would never abandon you, we are just letting you stand on your own two feet!” He replied desperately.  “Can you at least put your number in...” she began as she pulled out her phone and unlocked it. Allan laid his hand onto hers to stop her and then stroked her face once again. “It’s better if you just forgot all about us and focused on building you life”. “Don’t be so f*****g stupid, put your number in!” She demanded.  “We are doing this to keep you safe, you need to understand that. If Rickie finds out where we are then it will put all of us in danger”  “I would never tell him!” She defended and I scratched the back of my neck nervously. She’s starting to try and find out the things I wanted to be kept private. I stood there, feeling on edge of what Allan was going to reveal next.  “I love you sweetheart, it’s for your own good” he repeated and walked past her. She grabbed his arm and shook her head.  “You’re not going anywhere!” She yelled. “Amelia...” I interrupted but she put her hand up to shush me. “I have just got you back dad. I understand everything now, you don’t have to go. Please, we can work this out together”.  Allan looked past her and glanced at me, hinting to look after her and he then smiled. After a tap on her hand, he kissed her cheek and walked out of the room. I watched Amelia crumble before my eyes and I was worried how she was going to release her pain. She turned to me with tears in her eyes and stormed over. She slammed her fists on my desk and scowled at me. “What did you do?!” She snapped.  “Amelia, you don’t understand the danger that you are in. I know I should have spoken to you about this but you would have gone insane and done something stupid like the last time someone close to you was threatened. Ezio is no where near as dangerous as the people that actually want you” I let slip. “What are you talking about?” She pressed and I shook my head. “Rickie?!” She yelled and I walked round to her, trying to avoid her questions.  “We can’t just let them leave, we can protect them somehow!” She suggested desperately. “It doesn’t work that way” “Then we make it!” She cried. “This wasn’t just my idea Amelia, your parents want this as well. If everything calms down and there is no longer a threat then we can maybe sort something out. But for now, this is the safest way forward for everyone”. “I promise that I will explain everything once I have got my head around a solution, just please trust me” I tried to calm her down. She collapsed in tears and I embraced her closely. I know this was a harsh thing to do, but if Rickie got his hands on her then he will destroy her.
