I sat at my desk and beckoned Samuel to enter the office and to take a seat. He was hesitant but did as I asked. He wore a black t-shirt with black jeans and shoes. He seemed to be on edge as to why he was being called to see me. I could tell that if he was called in by Ezio then it would result in being punished in some way.
“I wanted to thank you” I began and he tilted his head to the side with confusion.
“Thank me?”
“You helped Amelia to escape from Ezio’s. Not only that but you also carried her when she hurt herself and couldn’t walk. Most people would have just left her there and took advantage of their freedom. You risked being caught for her and that means a lot” I explained. Samuel’s expression softened and he smiled back at me.
“She wouldn’t have left me behind sir. I don’t think I could live with myself if I did” he replied humbly.
“Still, it’s a bold move in my eyes. Ricco has informed me of the support you have given to him and the other guys”
“Yes sir, I had to show my gratitude of being taken in somehow” he responded, sitting up straight in his chair. I think he was worried I was going to scold him for interfering.
“I wanted to give you this” I smirked and reached down to the bottom draw and opened it.
I pulled out a black leather jacket in Samuel’s size and laid it onto the desk. His eyes widened with excitement and a huge grin creeped across his face.
“I... I don’t know what to say” he stuttered.
“You’ve proven your loyalty to me and have taken it upon yourself to redeem your status. I admire that and I hope you will accept my offer of joining us permanently” I proposed, clasping my hands together. Samuel stared at the jacket and lifted it up to admire.
“Thank you so much sir” he responded and I chuckled.
“It’s boss to you now” I corrected. As he tried the jacket on with pride, I sat back in my chair and rubbed my chin.
“Could I ask you something personal?” I said, knowing I was going ask anyway.
“Anything si... boss”
“What happened with your parents?” I asked without hesitation. Samuel’s face dropped and his shoulders slumped down slightly. He took in a deep breath and sighed.
“My parents were murdered in the vecchio legno (old wood). They were found a few feet from their car by a passer by. They appeared to have been shot after they were ran off of the road. My mum managed to get out and pull my dad from the wreckage, however she didn’t make it very far because the guy who had caused them to crash had reversed. The file said that the suspect caught my mum before she could get to the trees on the side of the road. He shot her first so that my dad, who was unable to move from his injuries at the time, had to watch her die. He was then shot and the suspect got away” he explained. I couldn’t help but feel an immense amount of sorrow for him.
“Where were you?” I asked.
“In the back seat” he replied in a dull tone.
“The car was on fire and the suspect was too busy with my mum and dad to even check the back of the car” he said with a vengeful tone.
“I was 12 years old at the time...” he bowed his head.
“And your mum didn’t go for you first?” I question and he shook his head.
“I thought it was because she hated me at the time, but growing up I now realise she was doing it to protect me. If this guy was trying to kill my parents then the last thing my mum wanted to do was show him that I was still in the car. She probably thought he would kill me too. Maybe if she managed to escape then she might have come back for me when she lost the man” he explained.
“A couple saw me in the back of the burning car and pulled me out. They took me back to their house and reported the crime but didn’t mention me. I think they knew that if the police found out about me then they would take me away”
“Who were they?” I questioned and Samuel raised his gaze to make eye contact.
“Ezio’s parents” he replied bluntly.
If Ezio’s parents took him from the scene and trained him up, then that means he practically grew up around Matteo. He could have important information that could help me to get revenge for my parents death.
“The files were kept out of the public records and a corrupt officer wrote a false report alleging that they were killed on impact. I found the file in Ezio’s private office stating that they were murdered, along with a conclusion at the bottom... ‘mission complete, target terminated’” he finished.
“It was planned?!” I exclaimed and he nodded.
“I think it had something to do with my parents” he suggested and I narrowed my gaze causing Samuel to shift in his seat.
“Samuel?” I encouraged.
“My parents, were Rickie’s personally lawyers” he confessed.
My mouth parted with shock as he revealed the truth of his importance to Ezio. His parents would have documents, contract agreements and information on Rickie that he wouldn’t want to be made public.
“I take it that Ezio has got everything that belonged to them?” I assumed and he nodded.
“I saw one a filing cabinet in his office with my biological birth parents surname in it. I’m guessing that where he’s keeping their belongings” he admitted.
“Right” I said, trying to figure out a way of getting my hands on those documents.
“I’m sorry that’s happened to you. We are trying to work out a plan to invade Ezio’s place for my own personal reasons. If you want, you can be involved in the planning and the invasion to retrieve everything he has of your parents” I offered and he grinned.
“Thank you boss, I would appreciate that” he replied politely. He was about to leave the room when he stopped suddenly and turned to face me.
“I’ve still got the file boss, I can bring it to you if you want?” He asked. I smiled at him warmly and nodded my head.
“I would like to see it” I responded sternly.
