Chapter 8- Back to present

Hazel Maria Cooper

Robin my brother has betrayed me for his future. I trusted him with my life. But how could he do that? Am I misunderstanding Robin? He had shown me the draft. It was not possible for him to change it and make a new in such a short time. It was already Saturday evening when he showed me the draft and we signed the contract the very next day. To clarify my doubt I asked Daniel who was now smiling at me

“How did you do this? How did you change the contract? Did you forge my signature?”

“I don't need to forge your signature when you have got a brother standing ready to do anything for his benefits. I have just given this contract and told him to make you sign. Rest is his planning” he had an evil smile on his lips. I stood there shocked. I am drenched in sweat even though AC is on full mode. Daniel is smirking at me.

“Do you feel like questioning your brother? Want an answer from him? Don't bother him, he is innocent. I'm just pulling your legs. No, Robin didn’t agree first. He was not ready to betray you for anything. He wanted you to be happy and I had promised him to do so. It’s for some other reasons I have changed the contract. You will know it later.”

His words gave a slight relief to my aching heart. But still I want to hear it from Robin. I promised myself to get back to Robin as soon as I get back home. 

“My dear wife, I can promise you one thing. Until our wedding I will not touch you without your permission. I don't want my bride to look miserable on our wedding. Just drop all your worries and get yourself ready for the wedding.  There is only 3 weeks left for the auspicious day.” There is a warm shine in his eyes which he suddenly masked with his coldness. I wanted to ask him about the clause in the contract but he stood up and said.

“Take care, Mrs Daniel Stuart Cooper. Congratulations for your new position as the director of the hospital. Always remember you are mine. I will be there for you throughout the life either you like it or not"

I could feel something scary in his words. I am going to be in the devil’s den. I didn't have anything to do in the hospital. I understood that Daniel has appointed Dr Patrick as the working chairman for the next 6 months which can be extended. So I don’t have to come to hospital until the wedding or might be never again. So I left hospital after an hour.

I haven’t taken my car from our old house when we shifted to the new apartment. Mom was against taking my old car as we were moving to one of the high class society area. Mom didn’t give an ear to my plea and handed over my car keys to Robin and told him to sell it. I felt really hurt then, but didn’t wanted to argue with mom because I was sure that I will not be able to take that car after the wedding. I thought that it would be better to go with mom’s decision. I was about to take a cab back home when a silver BMW stopped in front of me. Driver got out and opened the back door for me and said.

“Madam, young master had sent you the car. From today I will be available with the car for your ride. Young master had said to inform you that you are forbidden to travel in any other vehicle other than owned by the Cooper family. Please get inside madam I will take you to your destination.”

Oh, for heaven's sake my so called husband has appointed a full time spy on me in the role of a driver. I know he is doing this to infuriate me by making it clear that he owns me. If I don't get in driver will surely inform Daniel and he might come in person. So I decided to get into the car. I told the driver to take me home.

Reaching home I asked mom about Robin. She told me that he will be back on Saturday. So I have to wait for four more days. I can't ask him on phone as he might lie. Tessa had gone to office. Mom was busy with making list of guests to be invited for both weddings. My parents have decided that they will invite only close relatives for Tessa’s wedding as it is just a small ceremony. They will be inviting all the near and dear for my royal wedding. 

My whole family was kept busy with the arrangements of Tessa’s wedding. As for my wedding we didn't have to do much besides inviting our guest as the whole wedding is being planned by the famous wedding planners of England- The Royal Wedlock. Cooper's had already hired them to plan a royal wedding.

Days passed by really fast with our busy arrangements. Saturday has come and I waited for Robin to arrive. It was already evening when he came. I waited for him to go up to his room. When he was about to shut the door of his room I pushed open it causing him to stumble back and fall.

“Ouch it hurt. What are you doing Ria? What do you want?” I stepped inside and closed the door and faced him with anger rising in my eyes.

“How dare you betray me? You changed the contract according to Daniel. I trusted you with my life. You cheated me, you brat.”

Robin is staring at me blankly. I can’t read his emotions. I could see guilt in his eyes. He is still sitting on the floor. He is not looking at me. He spoke in a low voice.

“Sorry Ria, Yes I cheated you but I didn’t betray you. I had broken your trust but I am not selfish. I am not ready to give away you for anything in this world.” I looked him awkwardly. I can't understand what he is saying. He continued without watching me

“Daniel called me when he dropped you here on the day of press conference. He asked me to meet him at his hotel room. When I met him he told me about the contract you want to make before marriage. Then he said that such a contract will not help your relationship as a couple. Instead he gave me a draft of contract which he had already made. I read through it and denied at once. I told him that I will not allow you to sign such a contract. Then he told me something important which made me agree to act for him. He had made me promise that I will not tell you that matter whatever happens. But one day you will know it. Ria, I am sorry I hurt you but I can't tell you why I acted so. But I can assure you one thing that you will never regret this marriage. Daniel is a nice guy and he likes you a lot.”

This is the same thing that Daniel had told me. But what is the important matter. I am eager to know but I can't persuade Robin because he had given his promise. Robin stood up and hugged me.

“My dear sister, your brother will never do anything which will cause to you or Tessa. I know that I should have told you before signing the contract but then you would have never agreed and that’s why I had to be on Daniel’s side. It’s right that I got the promotion because of you. But you know your brother; after all I am my dad’s son. I will never choose a short cut to achieve anything even if it’s a fortune. I will prove that I am capable to be in the position in which I am right now.” Robin’s words really made me feel guilty. I have doubted my own brother.

“I am sorry Robin. I was just mad after reading the contract. I think you are right. I should take it in a positive sense.” I agreed with Robin.

Days passed and Tessa’s wedding is nearly there. I had to go for selecting my wedding gown. One day Daniel took me to the designer and helped me to choose the wedding gown. It was an expensive gown designed by the famous designer Marvello. We also had to shop for the dresses and accessories for daily use for me to wear after my wedding. Throughout the day Daniel never touched me. He just helped me with the shopping and we had lunch together. We didn’t talk much throughout the day. He dropped me at my home by evening. Cooper family were also invited for Tessa’s wedding. Daniel and his cousins promised to attend the wedding.

I am one of the bridesmaids for Tessa. Her three friends also walked with me. Tessa looked gorgeous in her wedding gown. It was a simple wedding with only 100 guests. My heart throbbed at the thought that next week I would be walking down to the altar holding hands of my dad just as Tessa is walking with dad. Suddenly my eyes met with two deep-sea blue eyes which were staring at me from the audience. Daniel stood there with his cousins. He looked more handsome in that black suit. He is obviously the dream man of lots of girls but for some reason I still hate him.

Marriage reception is arranged in one of the famous 5 star hotel Parker’s Inn. My dad arranged it to match the standards of Peterson family. Everything went well. After the reception, Daniel and his cousins came to bid a goodbye and to my mom's wish I had to go with them to make a decent see off. On the way out of the hotel Daniel said to me

“You look gorgeous in this pink dress. I expect you to look more beautiful in your wedding gown. See you on our wedding. Bye.”
