Scarlett
I looked behind PJ and the others, seeing a group of about eight dressed in protective gear with guns in their hands. I am guessing our backup is here.
“Drop your weapons, get on the floor, with your hands behind your back,” one of the men said.
I assumed that he was the one in charge.
“Sorry, did we forget to mention that we would have company?” I smirked.
“You did this! You little b***h! How could you do this after everything I have done for you?” PJ snapped, “If I am going down, you are coming with me,”
“This is all thanks to me.” Caleb grinned at PJ.
“You?” PJ asked.
“Yes, you didn’t think I would leave Scarlett with you and not get myself some people to help get her back.” He laughed.
“When I get ahold of you, I will kill you!” PJ growled at him.
“I told you to get on the ground.” The man shouted again at PJ then pushed him down.
I went over to Caleb and wrapped my arms around his neck tightly. I never want to let him go again.
“Thank you for all you have done, Caleb,” I whispered in his ear before kissing his cheek.
“Oww.” Caleb whimpered out.
“I’m sorry, Caleb. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” I said softly.
“I know, sweetheart. I am just aching top to bottom right now.” He smiled slightly.
I pressed a gentle kiss to his lips, making sure not to put too much pressure on them. Even though he was in pain, he still kissed back. When we parted, I rested my forehead on his.
“I love you so much, Caleb, and I am not ever letting you out of my sight again,” I whispered.
“I love you too,” he responded, “And I am not ever going anywhere again,”
He brought me into my chest, hugging me tightly, as best as he could. I didn’t want to let him go. I was scared to let him go. I wasn’t even interested in what was going around me.
“Are you all ok, Caleb?” One of the men asked.
“Yes, thank you, Brendan,” Caleb smiled. “This is Scarlett and Jacob.”
“Pleasure to meet you both,” Brendan said as he entered the room.
Brendan’s men were hard at work searching PJ and his people, ensuring they took any weapons off them before getting their hands cuffed. I have never felt so relieved in my life. As much as I was acting the big shot, there was no way we could have taken them all on.
“Thank you so much for all you have done, Brendan. I am so thankful you turned up when you did.” I grinned up at him.
“And what about you Jacob, you doing ok?” Brendan asked him as he tapped him on the upper arm and smiled.
The way he tapped him and looked at him was like he knew him.
“Do you two know each other?” Caleb asked, confused.
“Yes, Jacob is my inside guy. He has been for the last few years,” Brendan said.
“What?” Caleb and I said in sync.
“Yes. I was given a choice to spend my life in jail or get information on the gang and report back,” Jacob said, “I chose not to spend the rest of my life in jail,”
“But what happens to you now? You know they probably still have some guys that no one knows,” Caleb said.
“Jacob gets the chance of a new life. Witness protection,” Brendan answered.
“That is amazing news, well deserved for everything you have done.” Caleb grinned over towards Jacob.
“Thank you, mate.” Jacob grinned back at Caleb.
“You know Caleb, witness protection is something that you and Scarlett could do if you wanted,” Brendan said.
Both I and Caleb looked at each other at the same time with the same blank expression. I’m not sure I can go into witness protection, but I don’t want to spend the rest of my days running as there is no way PJ doesn’t have other people out there just waiting to be told what to do.
“Can we think about it, Brendan?” Caleb asked him.
“Of course you can, take some time but just not too much time.” He smiled at us both.
“Scarlett, we can have a talk about this over a nice hot cup of coffee when we get out of this damn place,” Caleb said, placing a kiss upon my forehead.
The relief I feel right now is one I have never felt before. I never want to get involved in anything like this ever again. I cannot deal with the thought of Caleb being hurt like this ever again.
We all headed out, where cars were waiting for us.
“We are going to place you at a safe house with agents protection, for the moment, until we get these guys out of the way, but we are going to need to take statements from you both,” Brendan said, “And we need you both to be sincere if you want out of this,”
“Promise,” Caleb said.
I don’t know if I can do that, not after everything I have done in my past. But, at the same time, I would rather it came from me than PJ telling them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they throw my ass in jail, never mind witness protection. I will talk it all through with Caleb later at the safe house.
“I’m looking forward to a shower and hopefully a good sleep after the past few days.” I grinned at Caleb.
“Me too, sweetheart, me too.” Caleb agreed.
“I’ll be in touch with you soon, Caleb,” Brendan said as he began entering his car.
“Thank you for everything,” Caleb said, giving him a wave while I smiled over at him.
We were both shown into our car, and the doors were shut behind us. The car stood out like a sore thumb. It was all black with tinted windows, but I wasn’t caring. I just wanted to get away from here.
“Well, what a few crazy days we have had,” Caleb said, resting his head against mine as we got driven to our house.
“I still can’t believe what they did to you, Caleb,” I whimpered, “I don’t even want to imagine what would have happened if you were left there a little longer,”
I believed if we were there even another few hours, they would have killed him, and that is a thought that makes me sick to my stomach.
“Scarlett, I will be OK, my love,” he said and kissed me softly.
Someone would be at the house to check Caleb over.
“I love you, Caleb, and I don’t ever want to be away from you again,” I sobbed.
“You won’t be. You are stuck with me, beautiful,” he beamed.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” I said and snuggled into him.
I had absolutely no idea where we were. I didn’t know the route the driver had taken, and I was too interested in looking after Caleb. He was holding up pretty good, but I could tell he was in pain.
After another ten minutes or so of driving, of which we sat in silence just resting together, we pulled up to a house with a long driveway. This must be where we are staying, and I have never been happier to know we were both going to get some rest.
