Caleb
Every part of my body was aching. I had been cleaned up and given strong-assed painkillers, but it wasn’t helping much. It was that bad that Scarlett had to help me shower. She didn’t mind helping me. I loved sharing a shower with her, but not in that way. I was surprised she doesn’t hate me since everything that has gone down recently was because of me.
We had two agents inside the house with us and another two outside. Yes, they are protecting us and are trained for this, but I still can’t help but worry. Not only about other members of the gang but also people PJ knows. I was probably paranoid, but I can’t help it. We still had a lot to get through before this was truly over. Right now, though, all I wanted to do was get into bed and have Scarlett close to me.
“Hey you, you ready to get some sleep?” Scarlett asked.
“Yes, I definitely am,” I said before yawning.
“Do you need any more painkillers before bed?” She asked.
She has been absolutely brilliant with all of this. She had done loads to look after me even though I was checked over by a medical team when we got here. She stood to oversee everything they did with me.
“Yes, that would be great, thank you.” I smiled over at her.
“They will help you get a good sleep.” She smiled back before getting up to get me a drink to take the painkillers.
“A good sleep is something I need right now,” I told her.
“Same here Caleb, I am shattered after these past few days.”
“I am just glad to have you back, my love,” I said and kissed her softly, “I am sorry you had to go through all of that because of me,”
“Caleb, it is OK. If it wasn’t this, I am sure PJ would have found a way to get to me,” she said and stroked my hair.
“Have you thought more about us going into witness protection?” I asked.
“Caleb, there is a chance after I tell them everything, the only place I will be going is to jail. I can’t lie to them because PJ will tell them, and he has proof of the things I have once done,” she sighed.
“Maybe you can work a deal out with them. Help them take PJ’s entire network down?” I suggested.
“I don’t know, but I am too tired to think about it right now,”
“Let’s not stress too much and get some rest, sweetheart,” I said as I made my way to the bedroom.
“Agreed, let's get to bed,” Scarlett said as she followed me through to the room.
This bedroom was lovely, huge and spacious. The bed looked so comfy, nice and fluffy with loads of pillows. It is so appealing. I just walked over to it and let myself fall forwards.
“You need to watch you don’t hurt yourself doing that.” Scarlett let out a slight giggle.
“I think I might be stuck,” I said as I struggled to get back up.
“You are a numpty.” She said as she helped pull me up.
I still can’t believe my luck getting this remarkable woman. But, sharing my life with her is something I will never give up. I was now sitting on the bed just watching her walk around the room, closing blinds, curtains and switching on the bedside lamp.
She finally climbed into bed next to me. I reached for her the moment she was close enough and brought her to me. She snuggled into my side and rested her head on my chest.
“Is that hurting you?” she asked, looking up at me.
“No, you are fine, beautiful,” I replied, kissing the top of her head.
It was hurting a little, but I wanted her close to me. If I told her it hurt, she would have moved, which is the last thing I wanted.
“I love you, Scarlett, so much,”
“I love you too, my love,” she said and kissed my chest.
Closing my eyes and letting a big breath out was the best feeling right now. Of course, having this beauty next to me is also a bonus. I could feel my breathing getting heavier and my body getting more relaxed, don’t get me wrong, I still had aches and pains, but it wouldn’t be long until my painkillers would kick in.
“I am so happy right now,” Scarlett said quietly in my ear.
I just let out a groan of some sort. I could feel myself nodding off. It wouldn’t be long for me to be sound asleep.
“I am never losing sight of you ever again,” I said, “And if we need to go on the run for us to stay together, then that is what we will do,”
“We will work it out,” she whispered.
That was the last thing I heard before my eyes closed over, and sleep took control.
I woke up with a jump, my entire body juddered, and I could feel the sweat on my brow. Looking over to the other side of the bed, and Scarlett was not there. s**t, where is she?
“Scarlett,” I yelled as I hobbled out of bed.
“Scarlett,” I shouted again as I got to the bedroom door.
“I’m here, Caleb.”
“Ohh, Scarlett, I was apprehensive when you weren’t in bed.” I breathed out heavily.
“Caleb, I have been up for a while,” Scarlett smiled, “I have made us some fresh coffee, and I have some breakfast cooking.”
“Scarlett, you are amazing. By the way, what time is it?”
“Quarter to eleven, I just left you to sleep in, babe,” Scarlett said before kissing me lightly on the forehead.
I was still exhausted and felt like I hadn’t slept even though I had. Also, my body seemed to be in more pain now than last night.
“Caleb, please sit down, and I will get you water and more painkillers,”
“Let me help,” I spoke.
“No, sit your sexy ass down on the chair before I get Gavin through here,” she giggled.
Gavin was one of the agents. He was a big, burly guy. I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him.
“Yes, boss,” I teased and took a seat.
Sitting watching her floating around the kitchen getting my things together made me dread the next thing I was just about to say to her. I can’t hold off any longer, though. This needs to be discussed.
“Scarlett, we need to talk about what we are going to do next,” I said as I took my painkillers and water from her.
“I know, Caleb,” She gave a small smile, “Let’s get some lunch and let your painkillers kick in, then we can discuss what the future is for us.”
“Sure thing Scarlett, I am pretty hungry.” I grinned over at her.
This had to be her decision because it was going to affect her more than it will me. She has more on the line than I do. With everything she has done in her past, and if they charge her for everything, she will end up in jail, for life, and I am not letting that happen. I am not leaving her alone. Yes, she has done a lot of bad, but that isn’t who she is, and that was under the control of that bastard PJ.
I told her it was us against the world, and I meant it.
