Chapter Twenty - Tomorrow will be an emotional day

It was getting dark. Surely we must be getting close to where we were going. I was getting bored sitting in the back of this car, don’t get me wrong, we have stopped and stretched our legs a few times, and we have eaten loads, but there is only so much you can do sitting in a car.  “How long do we have to go?” I asked as I leant forward so they would hear me. “We will be stopping off in about one hour for an overnight stay in a hotel as it’s getting a bit late to go to your houses tonight.” The driver said. “Great, I could do with having a good wash and sleep”, I replied as I sat back again. “Hmm, me too,” Scarlett said. We both sat in silence for the remainder of the journey. I'm pretty sure the journey has taken longer than anyone expected due to busy roads and some road works we got held up at.   “And we will be leaving at five a.m. to get back on the road. We want to get to your places before the streets get busy,”  Scarlett and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes. It made sense, though. It would give us a few hours at least to sleep.  “I can’t wait to get snuggled up with you, sweetness,” I whispered and kissed her softly.  “Me too,” she mumbled into the kiss.  We soon stopped and pulled up to the hotel. One of the agents led us to a room while the other went to the front desk.  “This room is massive,” Scarlett said with a huge smile on her face. “It is massive and very nice, definitely the nicest hotel I have ever been in,” I said as I lay down on the bed. “Comfy?” She asked. “So comfy.” I grinned.  I lay for a few minutes just watching Scarlett walk around the room, exploring the place. I have only just got here, but already I don’t want to leave. “Should we get some room service? Maybe a nice bottle of wine?” She asked as she jumped on the bed next to me. “Sounds good, Scar.” “I’m going to get myself a shower. You can choose the wine and order us some light bites to go with it.” Scarlett said before leaning over and kissing me on my forehead.  I called down and placed our order, making sure not to forget the wine. They told me it wouldn’t be long. I laid back down, wishing I could join my girl in the shower, but my body was still mending. It is safer for both. I stay out of there.  I got lost in my thoughts as I lay there. I couldn’t believe that tomorrow may be our last day in Scotland. Yes, I am originally from England, but Scotland always felt more like home than England. I will miss it badly, but I am looking forward to a fresh start with Scarlett somewhere new where no one will know either of us. I think a fresh start will help us both get over our chaotic pasts. I don’t even know how much time passed with me just sitting there, but the door chapped and brought me back to reality. “Room service.” A female voice shouted. “Leave it at the door, please,” A male voice said. “Sure thing.” The female replied. “Caleb, open the door.” The male voice repeated. It was one of Brendan’s men that drove us here. I recognised the voice. We never did find out their names. They didn’t openly tell us, so I never asked. I swung open the door to find him standing, holding my tray of food and the wine. I smiled at him and reached out to take the tray from him. He turned around and went into the room opposite ours. Scarlett came out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel as I closed the door.  “Great timing, love,” I smiled.  “Yes. Can you pour the wine until I get dried and get into my pjs?”  “Of course,” I poured us both a glass of wine, and after I did, my attention fell on Scarlett. I groaned and licked my lips as her towel fell to the floor.  “Not helping, babe,” I huffed.  “Sorry, my love,” she giggled and looked over her shoulder at me.  She didn’t look very sorry. I chuckled and diverted my eyes away from her. A minute later, she joined me in bed, clothed, thankfully. I am on the mend but still not wholly pain-free yet and can’t be doing anything too energetic, and Scarlett has a lot of energy. “You fancy watching a film tonight?” She asked. “Yes, I want to watch a comedy if you fancy it?” I grinned at her. “A comedy sounds good,” Scarlett said. I feel like I haven’t seen a good comedy film for ages that genuinely makes me laugh aloud. I don’t think I will survive watching a movie, but I will try my best. Even though I have been sleeping on and off most of the day, I am absolutely shattered. “I am sort of looking forward to going to my house tomorrow and getting some of my own stuff,” Scarlett said. “Me too, babe, me too,” I replied. “Do you think we will ever get back home?” she sighed.  “Maybe, one day, when all of this is over,” I said, “Then we can buy a beautiful house, with loads of room for our kids running around,” “That sound’s perfect. I hope it can become real one day,”  Scarlett moved to snuggle into me. I wrapped her tightly in my arms and kissed the top of her head.  “We will have all of that, one day, I promise, sweetheart,”  I hoped that was the truth. I wanted us to have all of that. I wanted to give Scarlett the world and everything she desired. She has been the best thing to ever happen to me, and I plan to spend the rest of my life with her, making a family. “I am so happy to have met you, Caleb.” “As am I to have met you, Scarlett,” I said, squeezing her that little bit tighter. Snuggling in with Scarlett and drinking this wine made me not want to leave this hotel ever again. I could feel my eyes getting heavy. It must be from drinking this wine. I only had one glass, but with the painkillers, I am on, it was affecting me easier than it usually does.  “We should get some rest. We have an early start,” Scarlett stated.  “Good idea,” I agreed.  We switched everything off and got ourselves comfortable for the night. Tomorrow would be an emotional day, and the day our new life starts, possibly forever, depending on how everything goes.  I was dreading it! But at least I wouldn’t be alone.
