Bang Bang Bang!!
“Caleb, someone is banging on our door,” I shouted as I leapt out of bed.
“What?” Caleb darted upright.
“Caleb, Scarlett!!” A voice shouted through the door.
“Yes, I’m just coming,” I shouted as I walked towards the door.
Caleb just let his head fall back onto the pillow, and he pulled the cover back up. Upon opening the door, I saw the two men that were escorting us.
“There is absolutely no need to be banging on the door like that,” I growled as I turned to walk towards the kettle.
“Well, we wouldn’t need to do that if you were to answer the room phone or at least answer our first chaps.” The man grinned at me.
“Ohh, we must have really needed that sleep,” I giggled. “Coffee?” I asked.
“Yes, please, Scarlett, it’s Mike and John,” Mike said as he pointed to each of them.
Just as the kettle finished boiling, Caleb appeared not looking overly happy that he had been disturbed.
“Turns out Mike and John have been trying to get a hold of us, but we slept through it all.” I shrugged my shoulders.
“At least we have names for you both, now,” he laughed, “Sorry, we are exhausted with everything that has happened,”
“That is understandable. We are here to protect you, and when we couldn’t get an answer, we worried,”
“It won’t happen again,” I smiled.
I made everyone a coffee, and we all sat down.
“Once we have these, we need to get back on the road. We will get breakfast on the way,” Mike stated.
“Can you at least tell us when we will arrive at our “new home”, or aren’t you allowed to share that either?” I questioned.
“No, we can’t tell you that. We can’t risk anyone knowing where you are going,” John answered.
“That makes sense, I suppose. I guess I’m just intrigued.” Caleb sighed.
“We get that. Honestly, we do, but it’s a risk we can’t take.” John said before sipping at his coffee.
I want to get to my house as soon as possible and get my clothes. As grateful as I am for the stuff I have been gifted to wear, it's not the same as having my own comfy clothing on. I also need to get my little memory box I keep under my bed.
Everyone gulped the coffees down, and as soon as Mike and John finished, they left us to get ready and gather what little we had to take with us.
“Are you ready for this, sweetheart?” Caleb asked.
“Yes definitely, I want to get home like now.”
Home? It won’t be that for much longer. The thought saddened me, but we didn’t have a choice. I knew PJ would be the one to ruin my life. I hated him, but at the same time, if it weren’t for PJ and my life before then, I wouldn’t have met Caleb, or maybe I would have because I have a feeling we are supposed to be together. I don’t know.
I sighed, and we moved to get ready. We headed out, John and Mike waiting outside of the room for us.
“Ready to get back on the road?” Mike asked.
“Yeah,” I replied with a small smile.
“Just follow behind me, and John will get the car brought round to the front,” Mike said as he began walking down the corridor.
I reached over to hold Caleb’s hand. He squeezed mine back tightly and looked over at me. I have never had anyone look at me the way Caleb does. I definitely feel like this whole crappy situation we have been in has made us unbreakable, well, at least I hope it has.
We got down to the hotel reception and walked straight out the door and into the car waiting for us. We buckled up our seatbelts, and then we left straight away.
“We will go for some breakfast, same as before. You need to eat it on the move,” Mike said.
“Absolutely fine with me. I am starving,” I said.
“Same here. I would quite like some pancakes.” Caleb smiled to himself.
“Hmm, me too.” I grinned over at him.
“Sure thing, guys, we will try and find somewhere that does pancakes,” John said, “pancakes do sound good.”
***
We were finally in Skye, and I was eager to get inside, but we were stopping by Caleb’s place first.
“Am I allowed to go in with him?” I asked.
“Yes, but I will go in first and make sure there is no one waiting for you,” John said, “Mike will stay in the car with you. And when it is clear, you can go in,”
“And only grab what you need, OK? No electronics like laptops, iPad’s and so on in case they can track you,” Mick added in.
We waited for a few minutes, then John came back outside and opened the back passenger door at Caleb’s side.
“All clear, Caleb, you can go in.”
“Great, Scarlett, you coming?” Caleb asked as he got out of the car.
“Yes, I'll come and help you gather your stuff,” I said as I hopped out of the car behind him.
I was actually quite nervous about going into Caleb’s place even though it had been checked over. We need to get in and out as quickly as possible.
“Do you know what you need to get?” I asked as we walked through his front door.
“Not really. I’ll grab some clothes and a few toiletries. Then we can go.” He said.
I nodded, and he grabbed a case from under his bed. We grabbed what he needed, packing them away. He sighed as he looked around.
“I am going to miss this place,”
“I know you will, but hopefully, we won’t need to go into hiding for too long,”
I was trying to stay positive, not wanting Caleb to get sad, but deep down, I was feeling the exact same he currently was.
“Hopefully,”
I flashed a smile at him, and he returned it. He took one last look around to double-check that he had everything.
“We should go, get to your place. The sooner we do that, the quicker we get to somewhere safe,” he suggested.
“Yes, that is true. Let’s go, my love,”
He grabbed his case in one hand, and I offered him my free hand to take. He took it without hesitation and linked our fingers. He lifted my hands to his lips and kissed over my knuckles.
“As much as all of this sucks, I couldn’t imagine starting a new with anyone better than you, sweetheart,”
“Same. We will get through this. The same way we got through everything else. As long as we stick together,” I replied positively.
No, this isn’t a good situation we are in, but it would be a million times worse if we weren’t together. Now one last thing to do, and we can start the new lives planned out for us.
