Marise
“Ex fiancé?” Kai questioned. I nodded my head.
“I rejected his proposal and he didn’t take it well. My parents forbid him from stepping foot into our land again after they caught him, trying to force himself on me.”
“Marise,” Kai reached out to hug me. The environment changed back to his room as soon as I was in his arms. Immediately recognizing how close we are, I stepped back and cleared my throat.
“It was a long time ago. Trust me, I’m over him,” I chuckle nervously.
“Apparently, he isn’t over you. So what are we going to do?”
“We?” I sighed. “Kai, you can’t be involved in this. He’s after me.”
“He invaded my home and my brother almost died. I think I’m as involved as you are now.” This isn’t what I wanted. This was exactly why it was a bad idea to stay here. I should’ve put my foot down.
“Kai, please let me handle this. This isn’t your battle!” Here we were, back bickering about something that has nothing to do with him. I get it though, his brother was hurt because of me so I really couldn’t blame him for wanting to get vengeance. It’s just all too much. My sister is missing and Apollo reappearing out of the blue just made everything so much worse. Why did he have to choose now to find me?
“Do you blame me for all of this?” I asked. I needed to know because I blame myself all the time. My decisions have caused me to lose people, people like my parents. Sent away to live eternally in another dimension. Who knows if I'll ever see them again? I waited for Kai to answer, his face remained neutral so it was a little challenging to know what he was actually thinking. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
“No, you didn’t know your ex was going to come after you, but Mari-“
My eyes shot up to his. Calling me by my nickname took me by surprise. Only my family called me Mari. It sounded so heavenly when he said it. It felt so natural as if we knew each other forever.
“I’m going to help you find your sister and protect you from your ex.” See this is the Kai I could see any woman falling for, including me. Blinking several times, I quickly pushed those thoughts away.
“So now what?” I stepped back, putting even more distance between us. We were so close and the energy between us was magnetic.
He c****d his head to the side while squinting his eyes. “Well, I have an idea, but I’m not sure how you would feel about it.”
“I’m open to suggestions.”
He smiled tightly while scratching his head. “Okay, so since I’m the Alpha of my pack and you and your sister are here under my protection, I was thinking, well Lennix and I were thinking that in order to fully protect you and your sister, you will need to become my Luna.” The room fell silent and neither one of us moved. I mean, how could I? This man just basically asked me to marry him and run the pack with him to protect us. I mean I’m flattered and all but this is unethical.
“Marise?” He waved his hand in my face and I slapped it away.
“No.”
“No,” he frowned. “But you said you were open to suggestions.”
“Well, buddy not this one!” How could he-they come up with an idea like this? His eyes changed colors and I knew that this was Lennix coming out. I was afraid he was going to be angry, but to my surprise, his voice was very calm.
“Marise,-“
I shook my head. “No Lenny, I can’t. Besides, why did Kai have to go hide behind his wolf?”
“Well do you have anything better? What’s your plan?” I didn’t have one, at least not yet. I remained silent and Lenny laughed. “You don’t have one, do you?”
“Yet!” I reminded him. “I don’t have one yet.”
“We don’t have time to waste. Who knows what he’s up to? Look, we're not asking you to fall in love, but for once let someone help you. You can’t control everything. Let us help you.” Lenny’s so sweet. I can’t believe he’s Kai’s wolf, but he was right, but becoming a Luna, their Luna, was not in my plans. I have to think about how this would affect my sisters.
I looked at him and he had the nerve to sick his cute puppy dog eyes on me. Damn dirty dog. “We will also help you find Mesai.”
“I need to think about it,” I groaned. I can’t believe I’m even considering this.
“You have until tomorrow.” Tomorrow? That’s too soon to make a decision. His eyes changed back and Kai was gazing at me.
“Really?” I arched an eyebrow.
“What? He wanted to speak with you. In all honesty, it’s a great idea.”
“It’s a risky idea, Kai. What if he hurt you to get to me?”
Kai laughed. He laughed so loud while holding his stomach. “Hurt me? Nah.”
“You’re being smug right now, but you don’t know what Apollo’s capable of.”
He walked closer to me and reached out to hold my waist. He leaned in closer to me, his scent immediately became the only thing that I can smell and it was mesmerizing.
I looked at him with my best poker face as the corners of his mouth quirked up. “You see, that’s where you’re wrong. You can’t bring a wannabe God to a wolf’s den. We don’t like when our territory is invaded. And you,” he dragged his finger down to my hip. “Are living in my territory. Therefore, you are my territory and trust me,” he whispered against my ear. “I can be very animalistic, primal, even..,territorial.”
Don’t let him get to you..Don’t let him get to you..Don’t let him get to you. Yes he’s fine, but look away before you do something stupid. Holy Spirit activate, Holy Spirit activate, Holy Spirit activate, activate, activate.
I can’t lie, what he’s doing to me, makes me want to give in. He wants me to become his Luna and now he’s-Wait a minute! Oh he thinks he’s slick.
I looked up at him through my lashes, using the charm I’ve seen my sisters use that have so many men have fallen for them in the past. I leaned in closer to him, closing the little space that was left. I can hear that his breathing changing. I stood upon my toes to get closer to his face. Our lips were barely an inch away. I placed one hand on his chest and felt how fast his heart was beating. Or maybe Lenny was excited. Who knows? I gave him a suggestive clue that I was inviting him into my chamber. And just right when he was falling for my aphrodisiac ways, I smirked and patted his cheek.
“Trust me, Alpha, I’m no one’s territory.” I arched my back causing my breast to lightly brush against his chest. “Besides, you’ll only do what I allow you to do.” With that being said, I walked away leaving a very horny Kai alone in his room. I just hope he has enough baby oil.
I went to Miren’s room because I feel like we’ve been distant. Most of it is my fault. I know that I can be a little controlling or in charge but I’m the oldest and they’re all I have left and Mesai was already missing. I don’t want anything happening to Miren. I failed at protecting them the first time. I knocked on the door before poking my head in.
“Hey.”
She looked up from the book she was reading. “Hey.”
“Can I come in?” I asked. If she says no, then I’ll just give her space.
She smiled, “Of course.” I entered the room closing the door behind me and climbed into the bed with her. The room fell silent and I watched as she continued to read her book. The tension between us was thick, but I needed to make things right so I let out a long breath.
“I’m sorry, Miren. I’ve been such a bad sister.”
She sat the book down and turned to me. “You’re not a bad sister. You’re stubborn, a little selfish, persistent, and you self sabotage.” I sat there not defending myself because she’s right. I’m all of those things.
“But,” she continued. “You’re determined, caring, loving, and even sometimes vulnerable. You hide that part you away from the world. Why? It’s beautiful.”
Tears were now falling down my cheeks and I quickly wiped them proving her point. “I don’t mean to hide it. I know that you and Mesai always looked up to me and I just didn’t want to fail you both the way I failed our parents. I ended my engagement to Apollo and now our parents are in another dimension. I’m honestly surprised that you and Mesai never resented me for that. I would’ve deserved it.” She grabbed my hands and held them tight.
“No, you wouldn’t. You didn’t love him and that’s okay. You shouldn’t be forced to do something you don’t want to do and you didn’t want to marry Apollo.”
I let my head fall back against the headboard. “And look at the consequences. He’s back, Miren. He attacked Malik and he almost died because of me.” I finally broke down. Miren sat allowing me to finally let out all of my frustrations, guilt, grief, and resentment within myself.
After I finished, I felt better. The weight that I carried has disappeared.
“And now Kai suggested that in order to protect us, I need to become his Luna.”
Her eyes bulged. “Wait what?”
“Yeah,” I huffed out a breath. “He’s so…,”
I paused trying to think of the right word.
“Persistent, stubborn, arrogant. He’s a f*****g dog, literally!” Miren burst out in laughter which made me only join her.
“He’s a male version of you. That’s probably why you can’t stand him. You see a lot of yourself in him.”
I nodded my head. “Yeah, but to make matters worse, I told him I’ll think about it.”
“Her face turned serious. “Do you feel forced?”
“No, actually I don’t. Truthfully, we have had this connection ever since we’ve come in contact. I guess I just didn’t want to acknowledge it because our initial goal is to find Mesai.”
“And it still is. But I haven’t felt any pain in days so I know she’s holding her own. Or maybe some knight in shining armor has rescued her. And our sources haven’t even triggered us to move anywhere else.” I missed Mesai so much. I hope that she knows that we haven’t forgotten about her. We are going to find her.
“That is very unusual, but what can we do?” I asked.
Miren smiled. “I can tell you exactly what happened that led up to us getting overpowered. These men were strong. I remember fighting one and I was able to see the letter Z on his jacket.” Z? I wondered what it meant. Maybe Kai would know if I have the guts to go ask him.
I’ll ask about it tomorrow because I know that if I go into his room, he may be ready to mark me.
After Miren and I talked, I felt closer to my sister more than I ever have. Maybe all of this was meant to be. We haven’t laughed this hard in a long time and I loved every second of it. I vowed to myself that I would never let them down again. As soon as we became sleepy, I headed to my room. When I closed the door, I climbed into bed and finally had a peaceful sleep.
