Marise
I woke up the next morning feeling as unsure as I was yesterday. I’m not sure if I can be his Luna. I’m sure there are plenty of women who would love to stand by him. I came here with the intention of only finding my sister. Everything is a mess and for once I am clueless. My sources didn’t give me any clues or hints about Mesai. I pray to the heavens that she’s safe until I find her. On the bright side, Miren and I are on good terms. I got out of bed and showered before realizing there were several bags on my bed. I peeked in one and it was clothes. Part of me was excited and the other part was conflicted as someone entered the room while I was n***d. Shaking my head, it was probably Kai. I decided to throw on a knee-length green dress that seemed to bring out my eyes. I slipped on some brown sandals, before checking myself one more time. I went to Miren’s room to see her but she wasn't there. I know she’s been spending time with Malik since he was injured. Honestly, I owed him an apology so I went to look for Kai and to ask for directions but instead, I ended up running into his younger brother, Rafael.
“Morning,” he smiled at me.
“Good morning, have you seen Kai, I wanted to know where Malik’s house is.
Oramouth where the Red Moon Pack resides. Oramouth is a small town that Kai runs. The beautiful trees and lakes almost remind me of our land, Demina. I miss it so much. The peacefulness, the sound of waves from the lakes as the sun peek through the horizon, and the small breeze that kissed my face, it was everything for me.
I finally reached Malik’s cabin and knocked on the door. Miren opened the door and her eyes bulged as she was caught off guard to see standing there.
“Mari, what are you doing here?” She asked nervously.
“I was looking for you and I know that you’ve been spending time with Malik, so I came here. I actually need to speak with Malik.” As I tried to step in, she held onto the door.
“Wait! I.. uh…I’ll get him.” She closed the door and I could hear her footsteps scurrying along the floor. I wanted to ask her what was going on but I just decided to wait until she was ready to tell me. When Malik appeared, I didn't expect him to be happy to see me. So I was taken back when he flashed a smile.
“Marise, come in,” he waved me in. When I stepped in, I paused, taking in his place. From the outside his house looked impressive. It looked like it was built with sandstone and had tan brick decorations. Tall, half rounded windows were an asymmetrical pattern and allowed just enough light into the home to make it feel warm and welcoming.
“Whoa,” I managed to say as we walked through his living room.
“Impressive right?” Miren smiled.
“It is. It’s beautiful.” I looked at them. “I came here because I wanted to apologize to you. It is my fault that you were hit an-“ Malik raised his hand to stop me.
“There’s no reason for you to apologize. Kai told me about your ex and we want to help protect you both.” His eyes landed on Miren and they lingered. I wondered if there was anything happening between them. No Marise, wait until she tells you, I reminded myself.
“You could’ve died all because I didn’t want to marry him. Apollo is a very powerful man and knows my family very well.” He doesn’t deserve to be called a god. In fact he’s the complete opposite. “Besides, we still have no sources about Mesai. She could be anywhere right now and before Apollo tries to do anything else, I really want to find her.”
“I miss her so much,” Miren added. “But I know she’s safe. Although I’m unable to communicate with her, I can feel that she’s fine.”
I looked at Malik. “Is there some way that Miren may be able to contact her?”
“Like mind-link?” Malik gave me a curious look.
“Yes, exactly!”
“I know that wolves typically can do that, but as for nymphs…I’ll have to get back with you on that one.”
For once, I felt a little hopeful. Even communicating with her would make me feel better. “Please this would mean everything to us, especially me. She’s my twin,” Miren begged. Malik stared at her and then nodded.
“Okay, but the Alpha needs to know about this. You would need his approval.” s**t. I was hoping to avoid Kai until I came up with my decision about becoming his Luna. It seems to be inevitable. I still haven’t even processed it yet. But what would actually hold me back? If I’m doing this, it would be for my sisters protection, not mine. We have a connection even though he irks my nerves, that connection is strong.
“Fine, I will talk to Kai, I mean the alpha,” I offered. I was hoping that they didn’t notice what I just said, but the way that they are trying holding their laughs, tells me that they also may suspect something is happening between us. As I was about to leave, Miren pulled me to the side.
“Hey, I’ve been working on something and I need your help.”
“You know you don’t have to ask me. I’ll help you.”
She smiled, “Thank you.”
“So, what is it?”
Miren hesitated. “That’s the part you’re not going to like. I’ve been working on creating a portal for us.”
“Miren, what the hell?!” Creating a portal is risky. We would have to include a dark spell to balance out the good and evil. The problem with the portal is that once you go through it, it’s possible that you would not come back the same.
“We needed to communicate with Mesai and if we can physically connect with her then that would be better, right?” Oh God, why would she think that this was ideal.
“Wrong, you know the risks. There’s a chance that you can-“
“Become dark, I know. But I’m willing to take that chance if I get to see my sister. Why aren’t you?” I am willing to do anything for Mesai’s return, anything. Miren was right, this isn’t about the portal or what it can do. This is about connecting to Mesai to know if she’s safe.
“Okay, we’ll do it,” I sighed. “But, only if we’re not able to communicate with her through the mind link.”
“That’s if we can actually do that,” Miren reminded me.
“Fine,” Miren agreed. For once I was glad it didn’t end with one of us stomping off. Malik told us to meet him in Kai’s office later on so that we can get him to agree to this. I just have a feeling that he may use it to his advantage.
Later on that day, we all sat in Kai’s office. I tried my best to avoid eye contact with him, but I could feel when his eyes landed on me. “Malik said you ladies wanted to ask me for permission to perform a mind link.”
“Yes, we just need to know if my twin is safe,” Miren answered.
“I see. And Marise?” He looked at me. I knew he was waiting to hear my answer for his proposal, but I still really wasn’t sure.
“I really want to know if my sister is safe. Maybe having some form of contact with her will give us some insight to find her.”
Kai nodded his head and I was afraid of what he was thinking. “Okay. Let’s do it.” It caught me off guard.
Miren practically jumped in her seat. Kai explained how the process was going to go. We had to lay in the middle of the floor while Kai and Malik held on to our hands and the electric current would surge from their bodies to ours temporarily linking us all as one. He warned us of the side effects and asked us if we were ready.
“Yes,” we both answered.
“Before we get started, can I speak with Marise alone?” Oh no. Here we go. He wanted an answer. Miren and Malik left the room and closed the door. Kai studied me and I just stood there returning his gaze.
“What?”
“You know what,” he smirked. “Did you make a decision?”
I huffed. “I need more time.”
“Times up, sweetie. We need an answer. Plus, I just agreed to an unethical procedure as well.” Yes, he did too quickly. How could he expect me to make a rash decision? But what choice do I have?
“If I agree to this, just know that I’m doing this for my sisters. I don’t need your protection. I can handle myself, but my sisters mean everything to me and you will be my extra muscle to help protect them.” I looked him firmly in the eyes and agreed to become his Luna.
Kai gave me a half smile.
“You wipe that stupid smile off your face. I’ll be your Luna, but don’t expect me to do my wifely duties.”
He nodded. The way his eyes flickered at the mention of being his wife were different. There was excitement behind it. “Okay, we will perform the ceremony after we make contact with your sister.” He explained that the Elders would have to be present for the ceremony which made me really nervous. He also had to mark me as his so that every other wolf would know that I belong to the Alpha. I was already agreeing to do this against my better judgement, but once we have Mesai again, then, we can leave this place and move on with our lives.
“I, Kai, Alpha of the Black Shadow Pack, accept you, Marise, to be my Luna.”
I took a deep breath and repeated the words back to him. “I, Marise, accept you, Kai, Alpha of the Black Shadow Pack, to be my Alpha.” My body shifted in a way that I never expected it to and now it was as if I was so connected with Kai, that I felt how strong the chemistry was between us.
Kai smiled and pulled out a small box. He opened the box and instructed me to turn around. When I did, I felt his hand gently move my hair to one side before placing a beautiful gold necklace with an emerald pendant that glistened. I touched the necklace as I turned to him. We were standing so close. Our breaths kissing each other. It was magnetic that I felt myself leaning towards him. Before our lips touched, I cleared my throat.
“We should get started.” I walked away, opening the door to Malik and Miren patiently waiting for us in the hall.
“Ready?” I asked them.
“Yes,” Miren said as she stood. She looked at my chest and I gave her a knowing look, silently telling her that we will talk later. Kai came out of the office and led us to the backyard of his house which was mostly covered with grass. We laid in the middle of the grass and I grabbed onto both Kai’s and Miren’s hand while she held onto Malik’s. We both closed our eyes as Kai and Malik recited something that sounded like a spell. Suddenly, it felt as if we were being pulled into a void, but out of nowhere, Kai appeared in my mind along with Miren and Malik.
“It worked,” I gasped. I felt excited to finally see my sister. “So now what?”
“Now we use our energy to connect with hers. Miren since you’re her twin, you can actually call out to her.”
Miren inhaled and called her name. “Mesai!”
