Mr. CEO – You’re Dumped Chapter 39 – Looking for Clues 2. Elizabeth’s P.O.V Back at the Estate, my bedroom, to be precise, which has now turned into our meeting point whenever we needed some privacy away from my uncles and her daughter. Amelia drops a file on the bed and we are staring at it in excitement. “What do you think is written in the document?” Luke’s questions, but no one answers him. “Should we open it or are we going to keep staring at it all day?” Andrew asks and we all laugh. I take up the file in my hand and stare at the name written boldly on it. Mondragon. The date of my parents’ death is written on it, but it doesn’t have any year written on it that could actually prove that this very document in my hand was created on that same day. I flip the book open gradually, and it is blank. I continue to flip through the pages until I arrive at the final page of the document, which has something written on it. “Work Smarter, oh beautiful niece,” I read aloud to the hearing of everyone and disappointment flashes on all their faces. “He was one step ahead of us again. He must have known we would come back for the document.” I bicker and stamp my feet on the ground like a baby who just lost her candy to the wicked hands of dirt or bullies. Luke takes the document from the hand, hoping that I was just messing around with them, but he sees the same thing that I had read out to their hearing. His face is a complete definition of disappointment. “Didn’t you guys read this before bringing it home?” he asks Amelia and Andrew, but his attention and gaze was merely fixed on Amelia alone. She knows that he is referring to her, but she says nothing. “We didn’t think it would be proper for us to read all by ourselves. And we didn’t have enough time to do that with the guards already suspecting that someone broke into the house,” Andrew states, in defense of him and Amelia. “Great, so we have no evidence for the case and need I remind us all that Andrew’s first court hearing is in two days!” Luke yells and I don’t let his words frighten me or cause a panic. “That’s enough, Luke. We couldn’t get the evidence we wanted. But we do need to get a lawyer,” I inform them, and Andrew and Amelia are stunned by my final words. “Why do we need a new lawyer?” they both ask at the same time and Luke scuffs. Amelia looks at him with her expression sad and concerned. “We think Uncle Constantine and Barrister Stones are working together. We couldn’t meet with Barrister Stones because we overheard him discussing with someone and the person asked him to make sure Andrew lost the case,” I inform them and just about that moment, my phone rings. “It’s Barrister Stones,” I inform them all and they gesture for me to decline the call. I do as they say, but he calls again. I decline the call for the second time and he still calls again. When I don’t take the third call, he sends me a text on my phone. Barrister Stones: My Secretary says you dropped by the office. Miss. Mondragon, we need to talk. I stare at the body of the message for a moment too long and Andrew gets to his feet. He swipes the phone from my hand calmly and reads the message I had received from Barrister Stones. Asides Amelia as my best friend, Andrew is the one person who knows just what to do and when to do so that I could be happy and I couldn’t bear seeing him behind bars. It felt like my uncle was trying to tear me apart and, frankly; he was succeeding in his mission. I haven’t gone to the office in almost a month and I do not know how things have been going on there. The thought of Frank comes to my mind and I realize that I haven’t informed Andrew about it yet. I also remember the note I had found on the windscreen of Luke’s car just before we left the compound and even though he paid me no attention when I asked him about, I am very sure it wasn’t there when we left the house or when we left Barrister Stones law firm. “You should invite him over to the estate,” Andrew says and his calm yet authoritative voice snaps me out of my thoughts. “What? There is no way I am inviting him over. He betrayed. He even has a hand in Frank going missing.” “Elizabeth!” Luke hushes me, but it is too late. “Frank is missing?” Andrew asks, unsure of what he had just heard me say to them. “Yes, he is, and Barrister Stones and Uncle Constantine might have an idea of what happened to him,” I respond, not denying what I had said earlier and Andrew smiles. “Why do you seem so excited about everything, Andrew?” Amelia, who is uncomfortable with his smile, finally speaks up. “We need to have Barrister Stones here. We can get him to confess everything he knows and judging by the text he sent, I think that is what he already has in mind to do,” Andrew informs me and I love his idea. “Fine, I’ll tell him to come over tomorrow. It’s getting late anyway and we need to enjoy the rest of today,” I respond and they all nod in approval of my words before leaving the room, one after the other. Amelia is the last one to leave. “Dorian has been hoping to see. I assured him that he could come over later tomorrow if he wanted to,” she whispers to me and a smile finds its way to my face. “Thank you, Amelia. I really do need something to distract me ahead of Andrew’s court hearing.” I respond and hug Amelia before she leaves me alone to my thoughts and worries in my bedroom.
