Strange enough things were not so awkward between my mom and my so-called uncle. They were in the kitchen chatting while my mother was preparing brunch for us. Uncle or not, I still do not like Ronald. He is too perfect and dashing, and well, I can admit that I can see some resemblance with my dad, though I don't remember how he looked.
" Good morning." My sister said with a gruff, sleepy voice. I ambushed her, like I jumped, and went straight to her to tell her all about the bizarre occurrences.
"Sis, apparently that guy over there is our uncle. Can you believe it? I know i don't." I said in a whisper
She shoved my face away from her and then said, "uh-uh, did you get your wounds checked?"
"what wounds? I thought your older sister was the only one who needed treatment?" My mother said
I forgot. But I can not say that to either of them otherwise...
sigh, " We have more pressing matters to address like my newfound uncle. I'll apply some ointment and I'll be fine." I said, downplaying the issue while winking at my sister so that she would let this go. She did not.
" Mom, Ari has a fracture. I think it might be midshaft because when she used her hand to balance herself earlier, she said that she felt a sharp pain there." Way to go sister. I am toast.
I laughed nervously as my mother looked at me over her glasses, which were lowered a bit to sit on her nose.
"I promise I was going to tell you about my injuries. It's just that a lot happened and so... I forgot." I said, playing with my fingers (? ?) hoping that she would find this cute.
" Ame, take your i***t of a sister and get her a cast. Let that fracture heal naturally, no magic." My mom said, and I figured that, that was my punishment, so I did not refute her.
"That would be a problem, Elizabeth." My uncle said
" I know, but this young lady needs to learn her lesson. Can't we have her all dressed up with a cast?" My mom said without bulging. what do they mean by dressed up?
"Hang on? dressed up ? what's going on?" I asked, looking between them.
My mother looked at my uncle, whom I had just met today. It looked like they were communicating using their eyes ?
"First, get your cast. Ame, please." My mother said to me and my older sister.
As we left the room, my mom and uncle were whispering, but it seemed like they were having a very heated discussion.
"Quit listening in. Come on, let's go." My sister said as she dragged me using my uninjured hand.
Stuck my tongue out and said, " Come on, I know you are also interested."
"No, not when they don't want us to know as yet."My sister said. I felt like there was a hidden meaning behind her words, but I chose not to poke any further.
I got my cast from our family healing room, which, by the way, is very cool. It has Western medical supplies and magic related supplies, which I was forbidden from touching. My mom is a healer. She has attributes for healing, and she actually taught us a few tricks in healing, but I mostly need my wand to perform any of them.
We went back to the kitchen. My so-called uncle was sitting far away from the kitchen counter while my mom was still busy in the kitchen looking very upset.
"Can we help with anything?" I asked
"No, you sit. Mom, I'll set the table." My sister sai decisively. My mom only hummed in response, and this was a sign of how angry she was! I wonder what was It my uncle said to get a calm lady like my mom so upset.
" Food is ready." My mom announced
"Mmm, smells delicious ??." I said while rushing to the table.
"Ahem, I think I'll come back later." My uncle announced
"Why should you go? The food is ready so sit with us." My mom said. This sounded like an order rather than a request.
My uncle Ronald looked very shaken like he thought was poisoned or something but he stayed anyway.
We ate in silent mainly because my mother's mood made it difficult for us to breathe let alone eat.
"Ronald, don't you have something to say to them?" My mother suddenly spoke
My uncle choked on his drink, and I handed him a napkin.
"Thanks."
"Ahem, Amelia and Aria, right? As you know I am your uncle. I am your father's younger brother."
" Younger brother? It's no wonder he looks so dashing." I mumbled to myself but perhaps a little too loud because my sister gave me a warning look.
"Today, I came here to fetch you guys."
"Fetch ? where are we going?" I asked confused
"Aria, let him finish speaking, please." My mom said
"Sorry." I said, slouching in my seat.
"Amelia, Aria. You are the princesses of our Crimson Pack. With that said, our alpha has requested your return to the pack." Ronald said like he was saying the most normal thing in the world, like werewolves and witches were not enemies like my father was not killed by his kind.
" Pardon?" I stopped smiling. And if the temperature was already low in the house coz of my mom, it was about to go even lower coz I was livid.
"Aria, don't make me repeat myself." My mother said in her warning tone and it worked, it shushed me.
"Your mother has already agreed and so we will be leaving tomorrow." And that was it. He did not give any further explanation.
" I am not going."
"Aria." My mom was getting mad but that did not stop me.
" I don't get it mom. I have all these wounds because of them, my sister got poisoned, we have been jumping from one area to another running away from them and you want us to move to their territory?" I was almost at the verge of tears.
"Aria, that's enough." My sister intervened
"Why are you siding with them? Did we not make a pact? To live in peace away from them and all the trouble they caused." I shouted at my sister
"Aria! That's enough. listen to what he has to say." My mom said
"No, mom. They are there reason d-dad died." I choked. I could not stop the tears but I could see in my blurry vision the hurt look my mom and sister had. They looked defeated. Maybe I should have not reminded them like that.
"That's not true." My uncle said
"what?" I snapped
"Your father, my brother, died protecting his family and his beliefs. He died honorably and I, I shamed him by not protecting you when I should have. " My uncle said. He also looked terrible like he was full of regret or something.
