Lucas's Point Of View
"It's no earthquake it's her"
I looked at my Mom in shock. "Seriously?" I mind linked her.
My Mom nodded once. "Let's get into the doorway, until it passes." I shouted over the sound of the Thunder. There was a flash of lightning above my head - Jesus was this the start of the Apocalypse?, it seemed like the world was about to end!
And just like that it stopped! We all looked at each other and then bolted inside the building. My eyes were searching the great hall for April. As I started to head for the dining room she came out and met me. I gave out a cry of relief and ran to her at full wolf speed. I'm sure Alex would question it later but I didn't care. I picked April up and held her close to me.
"You ok?" I asked her, holding on to her for dear life.
"I'm fine baby, it wasn't as bad in here. Are you ok?" She leant away from me a little so that she could look at me properly. I could see concern in her beautiful emerald eyes.
"I'm fine as long as you are". She smiled at me then and I could feel the love radiating out from her. My love for my wife was all consuming. I held her again and inhaled her scent, I would never get tired of that smell, sunshine and orchids, there was no smell better in the world.
Behind us Lauren cleared her throat to get our attention. I'd forgotten that there were other people in the room. Hell, I'd forgotten there was anyone else on the planet. April was the centre of my universe.
Reluctantly I let her go. April walked towards Lauren and then stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Alex.
"April this is Alex. Alex, April" Lauren introduced them.
I watched as April scrutinised the girl in front of her. She was taking in her bedraggled looked and filthy clothes. She sniffed the air around her a couple of times. I'm sure she was trying to do this tactfully but her skin took on a tinge of green and she took a step back. I bit my lips together to stop myself from laughing.
Outside I'd had an overwhelming urge to protect Alex. I didn't know why but I better figure it out as soon as I could. I didn't want it upsetting April. I'd told the girl she could move in here and consider it her home without even consulting April about it. That hadn't happened in all the time we'd been together.
"Welcome to our home Alex, you are welcome to stay with us for as long as you like." She cut her eyes to me then "That's ok right, Luc?"
"It's more than ok." I looked at Liam "Sam and the twins are playing in the nursery. Let's go through to the dining room. Alex are you hungry?"
"Not overly" She replied sadly.
"Well let's get you a coffee and some pastries maybe?" April asked. Alex nodded.
"Liam, can you and Lauren take Alex through to the dining room. I just need to chat to April for five minutes."
Once the three of them had gone on without us I turned to April "I think there's something more to that girl than meets the eye. I don't know about you but I felt pretty protective of her" Understatement but I didn't want to offend my Luna.
"Yeah, me too! What is with that? I feel like I know her already. I just want to look after her. Did you see the state she was in? And my god does she smell!"
I threw my head back and laughed. "you caught that too, huh?" I said grimacing "Lets get her in the bath as soon as we can." I put my arm around April's shoulder pulled her in to me and kissed her on top of her head. "You know this isn't exactly the way I wanted to start our married life"
"I know Lucas, but in just over 9 hours the kids will be in bed and we can have an early night" She winked at me and walked off towards the dining room. Damn she was the sexiest thing I'd ever set eyes on.
I followed her into the dining room. Liam, Lauren and Alex were seated at a table just inside the door. The poor girl looked completely miserable.
"So what can you tell us about your dreams Alex?" I asked as delicately as I could. Subtlety wasn't exactly my strong point so I was amazed when she just opened herself up.
"I've been having nightmares since I was 13. They started the night of my 13th birthday, and I can't get rid of them. In the last month or so they've been getting clearer and they keep talking to me. They led me to Liam's place....You think I'm crazy, don't you?" She wailed
"Not at all" April jumped in immediately. "Do you remember what they're about?"
Alex looked down at her hands in her lap. She started pulling her fingers one by one which was a clear sign that she was anxious.
April tried again. "Alex, it doesn't matter how strange you think they are, you can still tell us. You might find that talking about them out loud helps you."
She looked around the table at each of us and sighed. "There are Werewolves in it! They surround two children, but they never touch them which is weird. And there's a really pissed off Vampire who talks a lot."
She bowed her head, I think she probably thought we were going to laugh. But all four of us were completely silent. I briefly glanced in Liam's direction. Not only did he believe her but he was nervous about what was to come.
"Can you remember anything else?" April asked, her voice was unsteady. No doubt because of the mention of two children.
"Not really, just that I'm there, watching everything. The thing that scares me though is the vampire. He terrifies me" Alex closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, I though she was steadying her nerves, but I was wrong.
"What is that fantastic smell? Has someone been making toffee apples."
April and I looked at each other in alarm. s**t!!
"God that really does smell amazing" She carried on completely oblivious to the panic surrounding our table. She sounded so much more cheerful than she had thirty seconds ago. It was a mate bond, it had to be. The trouble is there wasn't a Werewolf in sight! Liam and I jumped up from the table and started heading towards the doors that lead out onto the decking.
"Hey guys what's with the welcome committee?" My Gamma Charlie came wandering towards us with an amused look on his face. "You don't usually come out to greet me?
"Charlie there's a human-" I stopped. There was no point in continuing, Charlies eyes went from blue to black as he charged at the dining room.
"MATE!"
Moon Goddess this was going to get messy!
