Chapter 10 - damages

1089 Words
Alex's Point of View I'd been in the bath for about 10 minutes before I fell to sleep.  So it must have been a further 20 minutes after that when I started screaming.  I also was thrashing around in the water and subsequently took a huge mouthful of water when I was aiming to take a breath and started choking and hacking up water "Alex, Alex?"  I could here April outside trying to get in but I'd locked the door.  She couldn't get in and I was starting to panic.  I heard an almighty crash and watched as the door came crashing through the bathroom and slammed down on the toilet.  The toilet bowl smashed and water started to hit the ceiling.  And whilst all this was going on I still couldn't catch my breath. "Alex.... Oh my Goddess Alex what have you done to yourself?"   I couldn't reply I was still in a state.  April got in the bath and hauled me up by my arms.  She literally lifted me out of the bath and into the bedroom.  She laid me on my side and thumped me in the middle of my back until I spewed out half a tonne of water.  Although it wasn't the usual colour of bath water!  April rolled my on to my back and then on to my front. "There's not a mark on you"  She said to herself in amazement. "Why would there be?"  I had no idea why she thought I'd be injured. "Come with me".  I got up and followed her back into the bathroom.  I was butt naked, and didn't particularly want to be marching around with no clothes on.   I looked around at the c*****e surrounding us.  We had to walk over the bathroom door to get back inside, and there was water everywhere!  Jesus! "Look at the water!"  April shouted whilst I peered into the tub.  It was blood red!   "I don't know how that happened I swear!"  I said trembling.   "I thought you'd killed yourself!"  April wasn't listening to me, I could see she was in shock.  "Or someone had killed you!  Are you on your period?" I looked at her with raised eyebrows "Even if I was, do you think that would turn the water bright red?"   There was an almighty banging at the door to my room. "What the hell is going on in there?"  It sounded like Lucas "Not much, we're fine"  April replied, she was a lousy actress. "Really Darling?  Then how do you explain the water coming through the ceiling down stairs?" Busted! "We've had a little accident."  April announced pulling a face at me.  Both of us started giggling with our hands over our mouths to try and keep the noise down. "Sounds hilarious April"  The fact that he was pissed off made me and April laugh even more.   "You've got two minutes before I kick this door down!"  It sounded like he growled, which I thought was a bit over the top.  It was enough for April to get herself together.  She grabbed a robe off of the bathroom door and threw it at me.  I pulled it around me as tightly as I could, but it was twice the size of me.  I tied the sash and April opened the door.  Lucas marched straight in and headed towards the bathroom.  When he reached the doorway he stopped dead.  I could almost hear the cogs turning in his head as he took in the broken door, smashed porcelain and blood red water.  He turned to face April and I. "Are either one of you harmed?" "No Luc, we're both ok." "Alex?  Did you fall asleep in the bath?" "Yes."  Lucas looked from me to April. "I think you should take her up to our apartment, maybe  let her have a shower this time."  he said with just a hint of humour in his voice. "And Alex, perhaps don't lock anymore doors, I'm not sure I can keep up with the cost of repairs."  With that he turned around and went back out the way he came in. April let out a massive sigh.  "Well that went better than I expected"  She shook her head from side to side and ran her fingers through her hair.  "Right let's get you up to floor five and see how much damage we can cause in my place."  She laughed a little, but I stood where I was, feeling nervous and apprehensive. "Alex what is it?"  She asked in a really caring voice. "I just wondered if you still wanted me to stay, I've been here around an hour and it's bedlam.  I would understand if you'd rather get shot of me." April put her hands on my shoulders and squeezed them slightly, forcing me to look up at her.  "Alex, you're not going anywhere until you chose to.  I'm not sure what the nightmares are, or if they're premonitions, but I do believe that you are in the best place to get help. And if we smash up a hundred bathrooms whilst we figure out what's going on then so be it!"  She gave me a huge smile and I burst into tears.  She pulled me in close and hugged me.  It felt so strange, I don't think I've ever been hugged like that.  Physical contacted is limited for foster kids, you only really get proper contact once you're adopted, I'd never got that to that place.  April was probably only a few years older than me, but she felt like a Mom figure.  Maybe she was a teacher or something similar.  I'd have to ask later, for now I was just happy being comforted. I pulled away after a few minutes, I didn't want things to get awkward.  She gave me another smile. "Come on let's get upstairs, Lauren knows where to meet us." I decided not to ask how Lauren would know that we trashed a bathroom, but only because I didn't want to put April in a position where she would have to lie to me.  There was definitely something different about the people that stayed here.  When April had managed to get into the bathroom I'd been amazed at her strength - how did someone so small kick a door down? - but when I'd looked at the door for a second time I'd been surprised to see an almost April shaped hole in the centre of it.  She hadn't kicked it down, she'd bowled straight through it!
