Faye–POV
Tears filled my eyes as I leaned back, overwhelmed by the emergence of a new adversary. Ash had placed a seal on my stomach, ensuring my silence about the mistreatment I endured in Alpha Atlas's absence. This seal, designed to prevent me from speaking out against Ash, would kill me if triggered by my attempts to reveal the truth. I had heard of such dark magic; I knew all too well how this seal worked. Gently, I wiped away my tears.
I was taking extra time to heal my injured foot, and frustration washed over me. I called out in despair, "Bree, how much longer until my foot heals?" The small room felt like a prison.
Bree, my wolf, responded with a hint of exhaustion, "I'm trying my hardest to heal after expending so much energy aiding others during the plague. I'm not yet back to my full strength." Memories of a time when my healing powers knew no bounds flooded back into me. Alpha Jonathan, Luna Riley of the Orion pack, and Oscar had once held me in high regard. But when tragedy struck, and Oscar's parents died from the plague, leaving his sister Nicole as the sole survivor thanks to Mae's magic—not mine—Oscar and his family cast the blame on mine. The loss of my father to the plague only deepened the rift. Despite my grief, I knew that dwelling on the past wouldn't change my current reality.
I considered seeking Atlas's permission to either study or practice medicine. With enough dedication, perhaps I could restore my once formidable healing abilities. This thought sparked hope, and I silently prayed for Atlas's support.
A gentle knock interrupted my thoughts. Turning, I saw Atlas at the door, offering a small smile. "Hey," he greeted, stepping inside with sandwiches in hand. "I thought you might be hungry."
I smiled warmly, touched by his gesture. "You didn't have to bring me sandwiches, but thank you."
Atlas gave me a small smile, "There's a sandwich party today, and Ash's sandwiches are a hit. I didn't want you to miss out just because you're confined here." His thoughtfulness brightened my spirits.
"Why did you come yourself? Couldn't Rex have come to give me sandwiches?" I said.
"Rex is currently preoccupied. I wanted to discuss something important with you about a job," Atlas clarified. "How would you feel about working as a Medicine Practitioner in our Pack's Infirmary?" His question caught me off guard; it aligned precisely with what I hoped to discuss with him.
"If that doesn't suit you, there's also a teaching position available. However, staying here isn't free—you'll need to work," Atlas continued. I quickly gestured for him to stop.
"I'd be honored to work in the Infirmary. I understand the responsibilities of staying in the Pack, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to start anew," I responded. "But I'll need a place of my own soon. Staying in the Manor indefinitely doesn't seem right."
"No worries, you can stay here for now until I arrange something else," Atlas hurriedly assured me. "But what about Oscar? He's bound to come looking for you. Do you plan to return to the Orion Pack?"
"Never," I stated firmly. "I have no intention of ever returning to the Orion pack." Atlas nodded, though I sensed a relief in his demeanor that puzzled me.
"Once you're healed, Rex will show you to the Infirmary and introduce you to the staff," he said. The thought of starting anew filled me with excitement and apprehension. Also, I have to be cautious around Ash, who is an evil lady.

The following morning, my ankle miraculously healed. After preparing breakfast, I set out to find Rex, whose room I believed was near mine. Upon seeing what I hoped was Rex's room, I knocked based on the stronger scent. Rex answered, his appearance disheveled and less than fully clothed; clearly, he was not a morning person.
"I was hoping to talk about the Medicine Practitioner job. Atlas said you'd introduce me to my new colleague," I explained. Rex, noting the early hour, reluctantly let me in.
"It's still 5:00 am. People don't get up this early," Rex said quietly. I felt a little embarrassed. I'm used to waking up at 3:30 am, but that's unusual.
"Come in," he added.
When I entered Rex's room, it was messy. "Give me a minute to get ready. Make yourself comfortable," he told me before heading to the bathroom. I tried not to look at him too much. I didn't want to seem weird. I've met many people, and I couldn't help but notice that Rex, Atlas, and Oscar were really handsome. There were rumors that they were the most sought-after bachelors in the Wolf realm. But I was more focused on becoming a great healer. I wanted to save lives, significantly, since I couldn't save my mom from a fire a long time ago. I often wondered who could have caused such a tragedy.
"I'm ready," Rex said, looking at me with concern. "Are you crying? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I quickly said, wiping my tears.
Rex didn't seem entirely convinced, but we walked together to the Infirmary. There, we met a young doctor named Dr. Lavender. "This is Faye. She'll be helping you," Rex introduced me.
Dr. Lavender showed me what I needed to do - care for patients' well-being, monitor their health, and help them feel better. Rex, watching us, which felt odd.
After Dr. Lavender asked Rex about a date. He said he wasn't interested. He left. But he looked at me in a way that made me wonder if I had upset him or what.
Dr. Lavender asked if Rex and I were an item. "No," I said. "I barely know him."
"That's good. I wouldn't have been able to be your friend otherwise," Dr. Lavender said, joking. She mentioned she knew about my healing work in the Orion Pack and was inspired by me and my achievements there, as I was the youngest and strongest healer before the Wolf plague hit. It felt strange but delightful to be seen as a role model by my boss.
After work, I headed back to the Manor alone, preferring to eat dinner alone. On the way, I saw Atlas and Ash arguing and decided to steer clear. But as I turned around, I bumped into someone - it was Alpha Oscar.
"You need to be more careful," he said in a familiar voice, catching me before I fell.
