Alena
It was our last day in the US. We were heading to Europe tomorrow. We had an early flight, so we were spending the night in a hotel. I couldn’t believe the US leg was over already. It has been a crazy, strange, yet a fantastic time. I was overly excited about Europe, and everywhere else we would be seeing. We were in bed, watching a movie. We had a long flight tomorrow, so we were going to make the best of the comfortable bed and the quiet until tomorrow.
“You nervous about the long flight tomorrow, my love?” Ryker asked.
“No, I am OK, actually,” I said, “Because I know it is going to be worth it when we get there,” I added.
“Good,” He said, kissing me, “I am excited to show you the world, and for the first time I will really see it,” He added.
“It is going to be incredible,” I gushed.
He went to reach to kiss me again, but his phone went, signalling a text. He looked at me confused, wondering who it could be because everyone would be resting. He grabbed it, looking at the text, and a look of confusion took over his face.
“Ryker? Everything OK?” I asked, concerned.
“I don’t know,” He said, showing me the text on his phone. It was from an unknown number, and the message read.
You can’t hide forever! I know who you are. I will be in touch.
I had to read it ten times to make sure I was reading it write.
“Do you have any idea who that could be?” I asked.
“No, there are only very few people that know about my past, about who I am, and the ones that do I would trust with my life,” He said.
It could be anyone because I am sure if someone looked hard enough, they would find the truth.
“Have you ever had anything like this before?” I asked.
“I have had threats, it comes with the industry, but nothing like this, nothing to do with my past,” He said, and I could see the panic in his eyes, “Unless, my parents have found me?” He added.
“Unless someone else has been looking into you, and found out,” I said.
I hope and pray it isn’t his parents, not after everything they did to him! And if it is, what sort of parents act that way towards their son?
“I don’t know, I need to go and talk to Natalie, right now,” He said, getting out of bed.
“Do you want me to come with you?” I asked.
“Yes, please,” He said.
I know he was worried, and I can’t blame him, especially since he has done everything he could to get away from his past, away from them. It was maybe a good thing that we were leaving the US tomorrow.
I followed his lead, and we headed to Natalie’s room that was down the hall from ours. I hugged his arm and rested my head on his shoulder.
“I am right here, baby boy,” I said, “Whatever this is, we will get it sorted,” I added.
“I know, sweetheart,” He said, wrapping his arm around me, and kissing the top of my head.
We can only hope Natalie and his legal team can sort this out. We stopped outside her room. Ryker went to knock but then changed his mind. He started pacing back and forth. He was nervous, and that was understandable.
I reached for him, turning him to face me and kissed him softly.
“Knock, baby; it’s Natalie, you know she will do everything she can to get it sorted,” I added, taking his hand in mine.
“I know, but Alena, what if it is my parents? What am I going to do?” He said, running his fingers through his hair and shaking his head.
“I don’t know, Ryker, but we will get sorted, OK? And I promise, whatever this is, you will not be going through any of it alone,” I said, squeezing his hand.
He pulled me into his chest, hugging me tightly, and I wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly. He held me there for a few minutes before pulling away. He linked his fingers with mine, and turned around, knocking on the door.
It took a minute, but Natalie finally answered. You could see she has just woken up.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, after taking one look at Ryker.
He shook his head, and she stepped aside and let us in.
“I need a drink, and then we can talk,” Ryker said, grabbing himself a Scotch.
He offered us one, but we said no. Natalie looked at me, and I sighed, shaking my head. She knew something was wrong. Ryker downed the Scotch and then made himself another one before sitting down.
“Here,” He said, handing Natalie the phone.
She took it, looking at and I could tell by Natalie’s reaction she was as worried as Ryker and I were.
“It just came through,” Ryker said, “Natalie, what if it is them? What if they have found me? They could ruin everything,” He added, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Ryker, I don’t want you to worry about it, OK? There have been things put in place since the start in case this happens,” She said, “If it is them, it will be the first and last time they will be contacting you,” She added, her voice filled with anger.
“I can’t think who else it could be,” He said.
“It may not be them; it could be someone else from your past,” She said, “An ex, a friend or someone who has stumbled across the information somewhere,” She added.
“How would they have got his number?” I asked.
“It is amazing what people can do these days with all the technology,” She said, “But don’t overthink it, OK? We will get it sorted,” She added.
I know she was trying to make him feel better, but I don’t think it was going to be that easy, especially with his anxiety and things. I am hoping his team can get it sorted and quickly.
“How can I not overthink it? This could destroy everything, Natalie,” He said, getting emotional.
I hated seeing him like this and not be able to do anything to help him. I rushed over to him, kneeling in front of him and he looked up at me. I could see the tears threatening in his eyes.
“It will be OK. You will be OK,” I said, “We will get through this, I promise,” I added.
“You don’t know that,” He said softly.
“Listen to her, Ryker, we will sort it,” Natalie said, “You two go and try to get some sleep, I will sort this,” She added.
“Maybe I should just tell everyone the truth,” Ryker said.
“No, don’t do that, not right now,” Natalie said, “Give us a chance to get it sorted, OK? And if things don’t go the way we need them, then we can talk about it,” She added.
“OK,” Ryker said, sadly.
“Now go and get some rest, we can talk more about this tomorrow,” She said.
“Thanks,” Ryker said, not sounding convinced.
He headed for the door, and I went to follow him, but Natalie stopped me for a minute. I turned to her, as Ryker headed out of the room.
“Please keep a close eye on him tonight, in case he starts taking his panic attacks,” She said sadly, “He needs you, more than he needed anyone,” She added.
“I promise, I will, it is going to be OK, right?” I asked.
“I honestly don’t know, but I can do what I can,” She said.
“Thank you,” I said.
I went after Ryker, by the time I got to the room, he was sitting at the bottom of the bed, staring at the ceiling. I climbed onto the bed, and going up behind him, wrapping my arms around him, and nuzzling his neck.
“Ryker, I am sorry you are going through this right now,” I said.
He placed his hands over mine and leant back against me.
“Alena, I don’t know what I am going to do,” He whimpered.
“I don’t know, baby boy, but we will get it all sorted, one way or another,” I said, “Come on, let’s get back into bed,” I added.
He nodded, and we both got back into bed. As soon as we were settled, he pulled me close and just hugging me, not saying a word. I knew right now all he needed was someone to hold, and not say a word.
“I love you, Ryker, and I am right here for whatever you need,” I said.
“I love you too,” He said, “All I need right now, is you close to me,” He added.
“And I am right here, always,” I said.
I know there was going to be a lot to deal with, but he would not go through any of this alone. I know he has a good team behind him, so we can only pray they get it all sorted.
I had a feeling tonight was going to be a sleepless one.
