CHAPTER 4 - A Threat

Katelyn POV

He groans painfully. I took that chance to push his body and ran away. Since I saw him this morning, I knew his intention was not good. I ran back to the lobby while kept looking behind, afraid that he might follow along. Suddenly my body bumped into Someone, and I fell back on my ass. “Kate? What happened?” Mason was shocked to see me. My dress was torn open, and I tried to hold it with my hands while looking to the ground, unable to face him. I can hear Jeremy’s footsteps from behind me. I quickly stand behind Mason, hiding. After he saw Mason, he then stepped back and ran away. Mason tries to catch him, but I hold his hand. “Don’t! Mason, He’s not worth it.” Mason turned around, facing me. He took off his suit and put it on my shoulder. “I’ll take you home.” He said curtly. “But, you had a meeting with the Japanese company tonight?”  He sighed, then dragging me towards his car. “Consider it canceled!”

It was quite awkward in the car, just the two of us. I tighten his suit at me. My hands were still shaking from what happened earlier. I was nearly getting raped by Jeremy. Mason clenched his jaw and held the steering wheel tightly until his knuckles turn white, “I’ll cancel the contract with them! “ he said sternly. My eyes widened from shock, “Well,um…Mr.Prince. I think you’re making a hasty decision. You can…” Before I could finish my words, he harshly pushes brakes and pulls to the side. “Hasty?! Kate, he just raped you! F*ck, I really want to kill him right now.” he flared in anger. “Mason, the most important is you’ve saved me! Besides, I have learned some self-defense techniques back then in high school.” I grinned at him. “You should see his face when I kicked his crotch.” Mason burst out laughing, “You did what? I never thought you were that dangerous, Ms.Page. I might have to be careful around you.” I rolled back eyes, “You’re unbelievable! Are you bipolar?” I pouted my lips and looked outside the window pretending to be mad like a child.

After a while, we finally reach my home. I was going inside first while waiting for him to park his car. How shocked I was to see my mom in the living room with Lucas. Why does he keep coming here? He flashed a vicious smile at me. “Lucas?”. I was quickly rushed to the door and blocked Mason at the outside door. “Mr. Prince, I think it’s a bit late to come in.” He was raising one eyebrow like he sensing something suspicious. “It is 9pm. Ms. Page, don’t you have the manner to at least offered me a cup of tea after saving you?” He says persistently. Come on, Kate! Think about another reason. “My mom! She’s an old-fashioned type. I’m not sure she will like the idea of me inviting a man inside at night.” I pleaded. “You know what, Ms.Page. You’re the first woman who rejects my offer.” He said in amusement. What a cocky man! I think. “Good night, Mason,” I said when he turned around. “Don’t be late tomorrow! Kate.” He finally leaves. I sighed in relief.

When I came in, I saw my mom gasping for air while asking for my help. “Lucas, what did you do to her?” My mom had asthma. Lucas was holding her inhaler. “I don’t like your mom… She talks too much.” Lucas said calmly while playing around with the inhaler. “Lucas, give me that back!” I said firmly. “I came here to talk to you, Kate. But your mom keeps saying about canceling the contract.” I saw my mom getting pale. For each second passed, she suffered more. “Please, Lucas! Don’t listen to my mom! I wouldn’t cancel our contract! Can’t you see Mason just sends me home earlier? Today I got the password for all Princeton system.” I fell down on his legs, begged him. “Smart girl…Give it to me!” I pulled out the piece of paper from my bag and handed it to him. He chuckled then finally throws the inhaler at me. I quickly grab it and put it in my mom’s mouth.

After a few inhales, her breathing was finally back steady to normal. I came to Lucas and hit his chest. “Don’t you dare to do that again to my mom! Or I’ll swear…” He grabs my hair from behind and whispers to my ears, “Or what? My dear?” he laughs evilly. “Let me remind you again. I gave you both a chance to live. So, don’t you dare to defy me! Do I make myself clear?” His deep baritone voice filled up the entire room. I nodded in fear, and he finally let go of my hair, throwing me to the nearest sofa. “Good night, ladies! Pleasure doing business with you.” He said wickedly and turned to leave.

I brought a glass of water for my mom, “Here, drink this!” She drank the water slowly. “Kate, why you’re agreeing to help him?” I knew my mom already dislike this idea from the beginning. “I don’t have a choice, mom! Don’t worry, I will think about a way to escape from him.” I hold her hands, assuring her. She then notices the suit that I am wearing. “What happened to your clothes?” It’s been enough drama for today, so I just lied to her. “I was being clumsy, and my boss gave me his suit to cover up. Gosh! I think I must’ve gained some weight until I was managed to rip my dress.” I joked at her. Luckily, she bought it and didn’t ask another question.
