Chapter 15: The Most Prestigious Family in Pingcheng

The Gu Family

A wealthy woman suddenly came to visit. After entering, she anxiously grabbed Ella Zhou's hand and pleaded, "Ella, you must help me."

"Yin Hua, what trouble have you encountered? Please sit down and tell me," Ella said as she pulled the woman to the sofa and instructed a servant to bring tea and snacks.

The wealthy woman sighed, "It's my useless nephew; he's gotten into trouble again."

Ella frowned slightly. She often heard Yin Hua mention her nephew because he was the only child of the Cai family. Spoiled by his parents since childhood, he had become somewhat unruly and frequently caused trouble outside. However, given the Cai family's influence in Pingcheng, it was unusual for Yin Hua to come personally to seek her help.

At that moment, the servant brought in the refreshments. Ella handed a cup of coffee to Yin Hua and asked, "Is there anything I can do to help?"

"Actually, this is something only you can assist with."

Ella was puzzled. "How so?"

"Isn't your adopted daughter studying at Pingcheng No. 1 High School?"

"You mean Nancy Gu?"

When they took Nancy in, Tim Gu felt embarrassed about having an adopted daughter, so when they made it public, they only stated that she was adopted by the Gu family.

Therefore, no one in Pingcheng's elite circles knew Nancy's true identity.

"Yes, that's the girl! Today she actually hit my nephew at school without any reason! My sister-in-law has a bad temper; after hearing about this incident, she went straight to school to confront Nancy. But who would have thought that Nancy would turn around and accuse Yan Hong of bullying her?"

Ella looked surprised. "That girl dared to hit someone at school?" Given her usually meek personality, how could she dare strike someone from the Cai family?

"You haven't seen it; I just returned from the police station where Yan Hong was beaten badly—his face is all bruised up! I don't even know if he has other injuries. The old lady at home is worried sick and has been crying non-stop about her precious grandson."

"How did it escalate to the police station?"

Yin Hua exaggeratedly recounted everything that happened. After listening, Ella's expression grew increasingly grim. This girl really knows how to stir up trouble! The Gu family had a decent relationship with the Cai family; she and Yin Hua were close friends. With Nancy causing such a scene now, how would their families interact in the future?

"So Ella, I want you to talk to Old Gu and see if he can go withdraw the case at the police station.

Yan Hong is still young; if he gets a record there, his life will be ruined."

Ella gently patted Yin Hua’s hand reassuringly: "Don't worry; this incident isn't entirely Yan Hong's fault either. I'll call Old Gu right away and ask him to go personally to handle things at the police station."

"I can't thank you enough!"

Ella smiled: "We don’t need thanks between us! Once I find some time, I'll definitely make sure Nancy goes over there to apologize; what she did was truly excessive."

"With your word on that, I'm relieved," Yin Hua said as she stood up.

"I'm heading back now to report this back home so that old lady can relax."

"I'll walk you out."

As Ella escorted Yin Hua out of the door, Yin Hua suddenly remembered something.

"Oh right! Does Nancy know anyone from the Bai family?"

"Which Bai family?"

"There’s only one Bai family in Pingcheng!" Yin Hua laughed.

Ella immediately understood she meant Pingcheng's first noble house—the Bai family—and showed disdain on her face: "That girl comes from a small place; how could she possibly know anyone from the Bai family?" Not only was she just a country girl herself but even with their current status in Pingcheng society, it wouldn't be enough for them to get acquainted with someone from the Bai family.

Yin Hua frowned; that seemed strange indeed. According to her sister-in-law’s account, it was Young Master Bai himself who called Director Cui directly about this matter—Cui Wei went personally for arresting people involved.

If Young Master Bai didn’t know Nancy personally then why would he intervene? Since Ella claimed that Nancy came from a small place with no connections to the Bai family whatsoever,Yin Hua felt reassured again.

She didn't say much more after that and got into her car before leaving.
