The police station
Nancy Gu sat across from the police officer.
The officer asked her various questions, and she answered them one by one.
"We have reviewed the surveillance footage, which confirms Yan Cai's bullying behavior. Nancy Gu, if you choose to pursue criminal charges, then Yan Cai will face appropriate legal consequences."
Jason Cui held a thermos cup and tapped it lightly with two fingers: "Unless you choose to settle privately, there's no way Yan Cai is getting out of jail."
As he spoke, he opened the lid of his thermos and took a sip of water while subtly observing Nancy Gu's expression for any changes.
The young girl remained calm; since entering the police station, she had not shown much emotion. She answered every question directly. However, she was quite skilled in her responses; each statement hit the mark precisely. According to her testimony, that kid Yan Cai wouldn't be getting out for at least a year and a half.
With the college entrance exams approaching, if he went in now, not only would he miss his chance at taking the exams but also end up with a criminal record—his life would essentially be ruined.
"Just now someone from the Cai family came by; they want to settle this privately.
"
"I refuse!"
Seeing Nancy Gu's firm rejection left Jason Cui in a difficult position. The Cai family held considerable influence in Pingcheng; just moments ago, Wenhong Cai personally came to plead on their behalf. Under normal circumstances, he would have certainly given them some face.
However, today Master Fu intervened in this matter; even if Wenhong Cai himself sought him out, he couldn't offer that courtesy.
Thus, the only way for Yan Cai to get out was if Nancy Gu presented a letter of understanding and chose to settle privately.
From what it looked like now, Nancy Gu had no intention of doing so.
While Jason Cui was troubled by this situation, a female police officer walked in.
"Director Cui, someone is looking for you."
The female officer glanced at Nancy Gu.
Jason Cui nodded and stood up to say to Nancy Gu: "Think about it some more; I need to step out for a bit."
In Director Cui's office.
Tim Gu wore a grim expression as he said: "Director Cui, I've understood the whole situation. It's really just a minor conflict between two kids; it's not something that should trouble your department. My daughter has grown up in the countryside and doesn't understand many things.
For today's incident we choose to forgive; I hope you can release Yan Cai as soon as possible."
After receiving news about this matter, Tim Gu put aside his work and rushed over to Dongcheng Police Station immediately.
Although the Gu Group has been thriving these past few years, its foundation remains shallow in Pingcheng—a place filled with hidden talents.
In Pingcheng, the Gu family could only be considered new money compared to old aristocrats like the Cai family—they were still lacking somewhat in stature. Moreover, over recent years there had been quite a bit of business interaction between the Gu Group and the Cai family; their relationship was relatively close.
So when Tim learned that Nancy Gu intended to send their precious heir into prison, it nearly scared him senseless.
The Cai family was notorious for protecting their own—especially when it came to their cherished child!
If Yan Cai truly ended up behind bars, any business dealings with them would come crashing down.
Thinking about this made Tim blame his daughter for being so thoughtless.
Tim’s reaction surprised Jason Cui quite a bit. As another father with a daughter himself, he could empathize deeply. If his own daughter were bullied like that—he’d want nothing more than revenge on that kid!
But upon reflection he could understand; after all Nancy was merely an adopted daughter of the Gu family—there likely wasn’t much deep affection between them as father and daughter.
"But just now Nancy expressed her thoughts clearly—she doesn’t want reconciliation," Jason said cautiously.
Tim’s expression grew increasingly dark: "Don’t listen to her! I am her legal guardian—the final decision rests with me! Director Cui—I’ve brought along the letter of understanding already; please release him immediately."
