Samika's POV
I stare at the reflection on the surface of the lake. The white wolf is staring back at me and sometimes, I tend to forget how beautiful my wolf actually is. I didn't really get to enjoy my first shift because of all the drama but I love my wolf.
I then watch the sunrise through my Wolf's eyes. I couldn't sleep the entire night. I keep seeing my mother's dead body whenever I close my eyes and it is starting to get too much. So I got out right before the sunrise and finished my wolf run.
Devon and I usually enjoyed having wolf runs together. I used to look forward to morning wolf runs because I get to spend quality time with him when the whole world would still be sleeping. It always felt like it was just us.
I think of everything that Devon confessed to me since yesterday. That he stabbed my mother unintentionally. And that he was actually supposed to stab his dead father. And that there was an intoxicating scent but he refuses that it was actually the scent of a she wolf in heat.
I don't understand what's happening. I really want to believe Devon, but his reasons and everything else seems so irrelevant. He doesn't even have a strong alibi. He said he caught a whiff of scent when he was at the pack house's garage. But then he was at the hospital, stabbing my mom just minutes later.
The entire scene is messing with my mind. I hear rustles behind me and I turn around in hopes that it would be Devon but it's actually Arnold and he looks like he didn't sleep much either.
I ran behind a tall tree and shifted back. I quickly threw clothes on my body and walked out to see Arnold admiring the beauty of the pond. The sunrise makes it even better and I remember falling in love with the place the first time I saw it too.
"Didn't sleep well?" I ask him and he just shrugs, his eyes and face still puffy from exhaustion.
"I don't feel much comfortable at new places," he says and that makes much more sense.
I used to watch the sunrise with Devon by my side. His wolf and mine would play together till their heart's content and starting our day like that boosted us for the entire day.
The tables have turned. And I don't know how to take things in my hand yet. I am still figuring them out. I will eventually find a way. Maybe after my mourning phase.
"Alpha Samika! Beta Devon! There is a visitor waiting at the borders," the pack's east border control mindlinked me and it's too early to be having any visitors.
"Who is it?" I ask him back, and judging how Devon is still silent he might have not woken up yet.
"He says his name is Matthew. And that he is here to meet Alpha Samika,"
What? Matt?!
