Chapter 61

1010 Words
Devon's POV Even though Sarah left, Samika and I are still glued to the couch. We both are still lost in our own thoughts about all of this. Sarah claimed Brent needs protection now more than ever. If Aunt Alanna is alive and somehow found Brent's whereabouts, then why will she become a danger to him? And how did she even find Brent's whereabouts in the first place? "And here I thought that Alpha Judah was the one most dangerous," Samika whispers and she is probably thinking the same thing that I am thinking. Maybe human lands are not safe for him for a time being. "I need a solid reason for him to come here for a few days. At least until things are sorted," Samika says and I cannot agree more. "Go call him. Talk to him. And be sure there should be no suspicion, okay?" I tell her and she rolls her eyes, flips me off and goes off with searching her phone. Her phone was her body part until she shifted into her wolf. She hardly needed her phone since then. There was mindlink which was an easier process than phone calls or texts. So I helped her search for it and when we did, we noticed that the battery died long ago and it needed to be charged. Samika did that and we had to wait for a few moments before it switched on. It is now about time for the sun to rise and I don't remember when was the last time I slept. Yesterday was by far the worst day I had ever experienced for many reasons. I walk into the kitchen and see so much food. Food that is waste. Food that is still fresh. Food that's about to go rotten. "I was showing Arnold on how things work here," she screams from the living room and all I do is sigh and grab the fruit basket and take that to the living room again. Samika was eager as she grabbed the jar of blueberries while I took an orange and started peeling it, with my mind thinking of something else. My mind is still stuck at the fact that Aunt Alanna is alive and she arrived deadly as she once was. She was nice and lovable to people she loved. But to people she didn't like, she was a nightmare. I mean, my father and her share the same blood so you people do the math now. "The Madfurs are so backward in everything, Devon" Samika says and I look at her with a faint smile. It's been a while since she talked to me normally. And I never knew I would be almost tearing up just hearing her call my name. Like I said, I would spend the rest of my life trying to prove to her that I did not stab her mother intentionally. "There is so much I need to do for them. And even though they are backwards in things like these, they are by far the strongest I have seen physically," she says, as she pops another blueberry into her mouth and I nod. I know that already. We both spent the next hour discussing what needs to be done to The Madfur Pack and with Brent as well. Meanwhile we also talk about Nyle. Ever since Sarah brought the issue with Nyle and Matt hitting on her, I can't help but wonder how Nyle is mated to an Alpha. Their powers don't dominate each other. Who am I to say anyways, I have my own s**t to deal with. Samika and I wanted to go on a morning wolf run like we used to, but we both admitted that we are tired as well. So I sit there and watch her call Brent. It's now morning already and the sun is rising reminding us all that it's a new day and there are more things to f**k up than yesterday. It went straight to voicemail and she asked him to call her back whenever he got that message. It makes sense that people might actually still be sleeping. Samika's eyes were starting to feel droopy and she was just staring at me with half closed eyes. She is cute. Oh My God. She is so cute. "Go to sleep. Let's resume everything after you wake up," I say and she nods once before getting up. But she stops walking midway and looks at me. "I want to sleep in my old room," she whispers and I try my best ignoring the pang in my chest,"for a while" she adds again and I know that she is just trying to soften the blow. All I do is nod and watch her walk away. I also need to accept the fact that just because she talked to me nicely doesn't mean she is okay with whatever happened between us. I understand that she is still grieving the loss of her mother. Unintentionally or not, I was the one who caused her that pain. So it does make sense that she wants some space from me right now. I walked to my room again and closed my eyes for what felt like a second, before there was a knock on the door. It felt like I fell asleep for a second but the way the sun is shining bright makes it clear that it is already noon and I have slept for more than a couple of hours. I walk to my door and open it, for me to see it's Samika and she sort of looks panicked so I give her way to get in. She sat on my bed but she was still silent. I don't pester her to tell me what's wrong. She would tell me once she calmed down. "Olive called," she says and I nod. It can't be that bad. "Brent shifted in the middle of the night in his mansion. He is still in his wolf form, not knowing what to do"
