Samika's POV
I wake up when the sun is just about to rise. Ava was whining about a run and she says she is now stronger than ever. I saw how strong she can come off, even with partial control. I witnessed it yesterday when Judith was here to threaten me.
I silently walk out and I involuntarily follow Devon's scent. He used to take wolf runs every morning too. I recalled the moments where I used to wait for him every morning, and he used to come back to pack house after a run totally drenched in sweat. I was a human back then and it was fascinating to me.
Devon is standing at the clearing, staring at the sun about to rise and looks at me once he catches my scent in the air. I smile at him but his lips go up just a little in his attempt to smile.
"Here for the run?" He asks me and I nod.
"Are you okay?" I ask him and he looks at me, a little confused.
"You haven't talked a word to me since yesterday. Is everything okay?" I asked him again.
"Yeah. Everything's fine," he says.
But something in me tells me that he was intimidated by Ava as well. I have seen Judith on her knee, totally submitting to me when Ava was in her natural Madfur mode.
And I guess it took Devon every ounce of his strength to not fall on his knees as well.
"Really not my fault. That's who I am. That's who you are," Ava tells me.
Devon and I shift together. Even our wolves seem like they are made for each other. He is a midnight black wolf while I am a white wolf. I don't know why he named his wolf as wolf.
Wolf looks at Ava and I see pure adoration in his eyes before he sprints off into the woods. Ava follows the run as well, and she is way faster than I thought she would be.
Wolf and Ava are running like they have a competition to win. Wolf is making sure to throw obstacles on purpose, but Ava is jumping all the way and giving Wolf tough competition on running.
It's amazing to be watching through Ava's eyes. Turns out I used to see this way even before I got my wolf. Nyle was the one who told me for the first time that I have a wolf's vision. Devon was the one who told me that I was actually a werewolf. And look where we are now.
I come back to reality and I look around to find Wolf. He is already somewhere behind and Ava is running even faster than I could ever imagine. It's like everything around me is a blur and the only force that's dominant is Ava.
By the time Ava reached the pond, it's just us. It took Wolf a minute to reach the pond and he is looking at Ava like she is someone totally out of this world. And I am starting to feel it too.
"Oh your father was the Alpha of The Madfurs. Your mother was an Alpha blooded Luna as well. So you can imagine the amount of power flowing in your veins and mine because of that," Ava reminds me.
My mother was an Alpha blooded Luna. Wow. That is crazy to even imagine. Two Alpha bloods coming together and creating a baby. And if Devon and I become parents in the future, our baby is going to be even more powerful. I smile at that though but Wolf and Devon look like they aren't really enjoying it.
Wolf and Ava lay side by side as they witnessed the sunset. It looks ten times more beautiful through Ava's eyes. The wolf vision is absolutely breathtaking.
Once it was enough with the run, and the rest.. Wolf and Ava give Devon and I the control back. I quickly throw my clothes on and wait for Devon but he is already walking towards the pack house again.
"Hey. Is something wrong?" I ask him, running to reach him.
"No. I'm just tired," he says and I look at him, raising my eyebrow. Too bad I can see through him. Even he feels intimidated by Ava.
"Yes Ava is powerful. I am too. But so are you, Devon. You are my mate," I tell him and he stops walking, as he looks at me.
"That's not the reason, i***t" he says and I shut my mouth.
It's been a while since he actually called me out on my overthinking. Usually I go overboard with all the overthinking and jumping into conclusions thing. Thank God I did that again.
"I just need time to wrap my head around it, okay?" He says again and I nod.
"You are The Alpha of Madfurs. My dad killed yours. Your wolf has the capacity to even make Alphas bow to you. That's all too much for me," Devon says.
"But trust me, we shall find a way to make this work. We need some time to get through this," Devon tells me again.
He kisses my forehead making me smile. This much is always enough for both him and me. We walk towards the pack house hand in hand.
"When is Brent leaving?" Devon asks all of a sudden and I glare at him.
"Asks the one who brought him to that state, in the first place" I answer back, making him roll his eyes.
"I had my reasons, okay? Maybe I'll tell you about it. Maybe not. But considering the situations around us, don't you think it's dangerous for them to be here?" Devon asks me.
He actually had a point so I nodded. I should give it a thought. I should ask the doctors when he would be perfectly alright. And there is a lot of talking left to do as well.
I let go of Devon's hand once we came closer to the pack house. He looks betrayed by it but I just roll my eyes.
"I have something to take care of, Jeez you baby" I say and he nods, walking into the pack house.
I acted like I was walking towards the village until Devon walked in. Once Devon was in and he couldn't see me anymore, I changed the direction I was walking in earlier.
I was waiting for the perfect time to talk to Amara. I need to know of another way to get through this. I cannot and will not kill Devon. I will face the spirit by myself. I will take the spirit down if that's what is needed, but there is no way in hell that I am even hurting Devon.
But a part in me shatters when I reach the prison. Amara in her cell, is laying dead. Her head exploded into several pieces. And her half sister, who is also Tyler's mom, is crying hysterically in the cell adjacent to her.
"It's all because of you!" Sabrina screams at me but all I see is the last string between the spirit and me dead on the floor. I am left with no other option now.
