The ride was quiet, and I could hear Gray's deep breaths punctuate the silence occasionally, his fingers tightening around the wheel. I knew he was frustrated with the drama and the problems that just seemed to surround our wedding, and I let out a small sigh.
"What if we... maybe, split up and..."
"I believe I made myself clear enough, Evangeline. I am not splitting, separating, divorcing, or annulling this marriage. Whoever has a problem will need to grab a helmet real quick."
"But you keep getting hurt," I said, turning to him. "You keep getting reminded of all of these things that..."
"I can handle it. I have handled it all my life. I know how to continue."
I sighed, then leaned back. "Stop the car."
There was a moment of silence, and I felt his eyes briefly fall on me. "Evangeline."
"I said, stop the car, Gray."
He let out a sigh, then swerved the car to the side of the road and came to a halt.
He turned to me, his eyes wide, his lips parted as he got ready to say something, but before he could, I wrapped my arms around him, my eyes closing slowly.
He froze for a moment before he slowly thawed, then leaned into me. "Why..."
"Just let mee hug you."
He didn't argue, and I held him even tighter.
