Proximity

222 Words
I sat in the car, my cheek still burning from the slap, my chest hurting slightly as I tried to regain myself once more. My eyes closed, and I could feel tears gather and well up in my when, breaking the protective walls I had been building to keep them away. Suddenly, I felt hands on my other cheek slowly, pulling me towards him. I turned, and Gray was watching me, his eyes thin and dark, his fingers still on my cheek. I swallowed, blinking a little rapidly. "Gray. I am sorry I wasn't thinking about..." "Shhh," he said, letting his long finger gently caress my face. My eyes closed, and maybe because we both were so alone right now, I gently leaned to him, my lips parting from the proximity and display of affection, no matter how little. "I am sorry," I said again, leaning even closer. He didn't reply for a while before he finally moved his finger away from my face. My lips parted as my eyes met his, and he gave a small smile. "Let's get out of here." He started the car, just as the main door opened, and Samantha ran out, tripping over the sheets around her. If he saw it, he gave no indication because he didn't stop, as he pulled out of the compound.
