Judith POV
“Are you sure? He’s after you.” Steve looked hesitant at first, but then when I gave him a glare, he stepped on the gas and started to drive away. I saw him running in another direction.
“What the hell is happening?” Steve asked me before he made a turn to the right. “He invited that b***h over when I was there!” I said my voice breaking. “What? That can’t be possible? What kind of moron invited their mistress to the office when their legal wife was there?” Steve said. He had a point, though.
For a moment, I think Elijah had given up already on chasing us, but then I saw his car following us from behind. “Oh s**t…He’s following us.” Steve said while looking at the rearview mirror.
“Quick, That way!” I told him. He made another turn. “Don’t stop!” I said when I saw the red light in front of us. He stared back at me with a shocked expression. “Are you nuts?” “We’ve got to lose him, Steve! Come on!” We finally passed the red light, and I saw Elijah’s car stop behind at the red light.
Steve blew out a relieved breath after that. “I think we lost him,” he said. I looked back, and I couldn’t see his car anymore. “So, what are we going to do now?” Steve asked me again. I asked Steve to drop me in my old apartment. My sister, Julie, still stayed there after I got married.
“Judith?... What happened?” My sister hugged me the moment she saw me in front of the door. “I am just asking Elijah for a divorce,” I told her, crying in her shoulder.
Steve cleared her throat. “Can we go in first? We don’t want all the neighbors to overhear us.” He said awkwardly.
“What is he doing here?” Julie asked, raising one of her eyebrows at Steve. “I am only here because of your sister. No need to be so rude.” He bites back. I rolled back my eyes at both of them.
“I swear both of you will end up falling for each other one day if you keep on fighting,” I said as I walked into the apartment. Julie put both hands at her hips. “There’s no way I am going to fall for that pig.” She sneered at him.
“A very handsome pig, I might add.” Steve added while smirking at her. He throws himself at the sofa, then lay there as if he owned the place. “Why did you change the couch? The old ones are better.” He asked Julie.
“I change them because it’s ugly. Now, move your ass. People here need to sit too.” Julie pushed him away, forcing him to get up. “But the old one is more comfortable. How can you expect me to sleep in this thing tonight?” Steve asked, taking Julie by surprise. “You’re saying as if you’ll spend the night here,” Julie said.
Steve shrugged his shoulders. “I can’t go back to my house tonight. So yes, I am definitely staying here.”
Julie’s eyes went wide, she stared back at me. “Can you explain to me what is going on here?” Julie turned to me this time. I blew out a breath and dragged her into the bedroom. “Let’s talk somewhere more private,” I said.
After I told her about what happened at the office, Julie looked very furious. “He did not do that….Are you being serious? How could he do this to you when you’re pregnant?” I think I could almost see smoke coming out from the top of her head.
“Why would I lie to you about this?” I said with a sad tone. She sighed deeply and patted my shoulder to comfort me.
“You can stay with me as long as you want, Judith. You’re a strong woman, you can do this.” She said, then she went to hug me again.
That night I slept in the same bed with Julie. It feels weird not to be in the same bed with Elijah, but I have to get used to it.
Elijah had been trying to reach me nonstop. I had over thirty missed calls from him. I’m still mad at him.
I turned off my phone because I needed some sleep tonight. I’ve been through a lot today.
I woke up in the middle of the night because I felt pain in my stomach. I am trying not to make any noise because I don’t want to wake Julie. The pain in my stomach is getting worse, and I can’t stand it anymore.
I got up from the bed then walked out of the room. I groaned in pain and fell to the floor.
“Judith, why are you here? What’s the matter?” Steve came up to me. He must’ve heard me because he was sleeping on the couch. “My stomach is hurt….” I said, wincing in pain.
He scooped me up in his arms. “Oh my God, it’s blood!” I screamed in panic as I saw blood in between my thigh. It was flowing down from my short pants. “What happened?” Julie went out, rubbing her sleepy eyes. Her eyes widened the moment she saw me. “Can you help me take my car key?” Steve asked her. Julie nodded and quickly went to grab the key.
“I’m taking you to the hospital right now. Just hang on.” Steve then told me.
Julie tries to comfort me on our way there to the hospital while Steve is driving the car. I felt dizzy, and I couldn’t think straight. What if something bad happened to my baby?
They soon brought me to the ICU when we reached the hospital. They didn’t let Julie and Steve come into the room to accompany me. I was scared and lonely.
The doctors gave me a sedative, and it made me sleepy. “Please save my baby,” I said before it all went black for me.
*****************
The moment I opened my eyes, it was all white. Someone was holding my hand, and I was surprised to find out that it was Elijah. He was here. How did he know that I was here?
I moved my hand, and it woke him up. “Hey, baby… How are you feeling?” I blew out a breath. “How is my baby? Where’s Julie and Steve?” I asked him.
“They went back home after I got here.” He told me. He is clearly avoiding my first question. “How is the baby?” I repeated myself. His face was full of guilt. “Tell me, Elijah! Where is the baby?” I placed my hand over my stomach. “Why can’t I feel him now?” I asked him. My voice is breaking.
“We lost the baby… He couldn’t make it.” Elijah told me. I’ve never felt this hurt before. I can’t even describe the pain that’s building inside me. My baby is the only reason I could make it through this divorce.
Elijah hugged me tightly and cried with me. He spent most of the time with me. I don’t even have any energy to argue with him anymore, but we talk less than we used to before.
“It’s going to be fine, baby…I’m here with you.” Elijah said as he took my hand. We were in his car, driving away after I got discharged from the hospital a week later.
I looked outside the window, ignoring him. Elijah sighed deeply and continued to drive. I fell asleep on our way back because I was feeling extremely drained. I woke up when I felt him lifting me up in his arms.
“Where are we?” I looked around, and then I noticed that he didn’t bring me back to our home.
“This is our new house. I just purchased them for you.” Elijah said, smiling at me. Don’t get me wrong, the house was nice and big. It has a garden that is full of red roses. He knew how much I liked them. But I’m just still in my bitchy mood right now, so I choose not to say anything.
“Why do we need to move out from the old house?” I asked him back after he brought us into our new bedroom. It was almost twice the size of the last one we had. He carefully put me down on the bed, and it felt so comfortable.
Elijah gently caressed my cheek using his hand. “I want us to have a new start. The last house that we had holds many bad memories.” He said, eyes staring deeply into mine.
I was lying if I said that I wasn’t touched. He really sticks to his promise to win me all over again.
That night we shared the same bed, but I only gave him my back. We were close to each other but felt far at the same time. I think it was until around midnight I felt him moving behind me. He circled his arms around my waist, spooning me. He must’ve thought that I was already asleep.
“I am going to make you fall in love with me again, Judith. Just wait and see.” He whispered before I heard his steady breathing, meaning he was already asleep.
