Elijah POV
I was doomed. What on earth is this woman doing here? I am not in the mood to talk to her right now. I am still enjoying lunch with my wife.
“Rebecca, I don’t recall having a meeting with you today?” I asked while glaring at her.
“Oh, I am not aware I have to make an appointment to come here?” She stepped closer, and I could smell her sweet perfume, making me feel a bit dizzy. Judith suddenly got up and pushed her away.
“Move away! You’re blocking my way.” Judith said to her. Rebecca let out a mocking scoff at her after Judith banged the door closed behind. “Thank God she’s leaving…There’s something I need to talk to you about in private.” Rebecca said, placing her hand on my chest. I put down both of her hands.
“I’m sorry, Rebecca… I am not available today.” I got up from my chair and ran after Judith. “Elijah, wait!” she stomped on her feet behind me like a spoiled little girl, but I ignored her.
Judith was already inside the elevator, and it was heading towards the lobby. I took another elevator to catch up to her. By the time I reached the lobby, I could still see her in front of me. “Judith!?” I called her. She turned around for a while, but then she walked away after she saw it was me.
I was surprised to see her getting into a familiar car. I ran after her, and I was shocked to see who was in the driver’s seat. It was Steve. My best friend since high school. My heart sank. Could it be that she was seeing Steve behind me?

Judith POV
I am getting enough of his infidelity. How dare he invite his mistress over to the office when I was there? If only he knew how hurtful it was when Rebecca showed up in our house last time, returning his tie back to me. The way that b***h stared down at me earlier is exactly the same look that she gave me on that day. As if she wanted to tell me that Elijah belonged to her.
Too bad that I was pregnant. If not, I would not hesitate to roll on the floor and have a fight with her.
Elijah is calling for me, and I don’t want to hear anything from him anymore. He would deny it all over again.
Last night I’ve made my decision. I have to run away from this cage he called home.
He locked me in the house every day, knowing nothing about his daily schedule. What he’s doing with his ‘client’. He always came back late at night, sometimes at dawn. He assigned a maid to care for all my needs, but he was never there.
I felt lonely and alone. I’d never thought the cost of his success would be like this.
This morning, I personally called Steve, our lawyer, to prepare the divorce paper.
And yes, you guess it right. He was the same Steve from high school. Elijah is taking a business major in college, while he is more interested in law.
He was surprised after hearing my request to get a divorce from Elijah. Me and Elijah had fought a few times before while we were dating, but I never once mentioned leaving him.
“Are you sure about this, Judith?” Steve asked me over the phone. I tried my best to not cry, but tears escaped from my eyes. “Yes, I’ve been thinking about this all night long, and nothing could change my mind,” I replied to him.
“But maybe you should give him a chance to—“ I immediately cut him. “Just do as I said! Not even you can convince me to stay in this marriage,” I said with a stern tone. Steve blew out a breath from the other side.
“Fine, do you want me to send the document to his office?” he offered. Since this might be the last time I see my husband, I think I should do it myself. “No, you can send the document to my house. I will bring it to him to his office personally.” I told him. “This smells like trouble to me, but you were both my friends. I will do anything to help.” Steve said before he ended the call.
It only took him an hour to prepare the documents. In a split second, Steve was already standing in front of my house, ringing the bell. And despite how shitty I felt right now, I still forced myself to smile at him.
“Did you bring the documents?” I asked him. He fixed the position of his tie and nodded at me. I started to notice something. To be honest, Steve is not that bad either. Now I am starting to wonder what will happen if I choose to date him over Elijah at that time.
“I’ll take you to his office.” he offered. “No, I don’t want to trouble you. I had a chauffeur to take me there.” I told him, but when I was about to grab the envelope from him, he retracted it.
“Elijah is also my friend… I know this isn’t my business, but let me accompany you this time,” he said, and it seemed like he wouldn’t take no as an answer. He held open the other side of his car door for me until I slid inside and sat comfortably there. He went towards the other side and sat on the driver's seat.
“You’re ready?” He asked me as he started the engine. “Yes, please drive….” I said without looking at him.
He pulled his car in front of the lobby. When I was about to get off the car, he then told me. “You’re going to regret this, Judith. It’s hard to find someone like Elijah. He truly loved you.”
I rolled back my eyes at him. “I don’t need your lecture, Steve. Save it for later.” I told him and walked away with the envelope in my hand. A lot of people recognized me as I walked into the office.
“Mrs. Penn…?” Lara seemed confused as she saw me. Of course, this is the first time I come here by myself. I’ve always come with Elijah whenever I want to visit this office.
“Is my husband inside?” I asked her. Lara looked even more confused that I didn’t know where my husband was, but she didn’t dare to question me. “Umm… Boss is not here yet. Do you want me to make you some coffee?” She asked me back to break the awkwardness.
“Water would be fine, thanks, Lara.” I said, heading towards the CEO room. I sat there and waited for an hour. I was looking for more evidence around his office, but I found nothing. Some part of me felt relieved because I didn’t think my heart could handle another surprise from my husband.
I was about to check the drawer when my phone suddenly vibrated inside my pocket, startling me. “Yes, Steve.. what is it?” I answered with an annoyed tone. “Are you done yet? What did he say?” Steve asked curiously.
“He’s not here….” I said, taking a seat on the long sofa in the middle of the room. “You don’t need to wait for me because it might take a while. I don’t even know if he’s going to show up today.” I added.
“I am not going to leave you. Just keep me updated.” Steve said, his voice laced with worried. “Okay…Just suit yourself then.” I replied to him. “Hey, He’s here! He’s in the lobby…I should talk to him—“ I quickly cut Steve. “No! Please, Steve… This is my marriage. Let me try to settle this problem with him first.” I said sternly. Steve blew out a defeated sigh. “Call me if something happened,” Steve said before he ended the call. I put back my phone inside my bag, and not long after, Elijah came in.
He looked surprised to see me at the office, and he even canceled all his meetings for today. I wonder if it was all just an act. Once I told him my purpose for coming here, his reaction was as I had expected before.
What I hate about myself is that I always weak for him. I couldn’t say no when he asked me to stay for a simple lunch with him. I can’t deny that I still loved him. Damn it, I don’t even know if I could stop.
For a moment, I felt happy eating pizza together with him. He even almost can convince me that he still had feelings for me. But it all soon vanished into thin air the moment that b***h showed up.
She was his mistress. I am not surprised if she came here to find my husband or soon-to-be ex-husband. I walked out of the room because I felt disgusted. He’s nothing but a cheating bastard. Why do I have to fall for him?
I pressed on the elevator button while fighting myself not to break into tears. I called Steve, and he soon picked it up on the first ring. “Hey, you’re still here?” I asked him. My voice is hoarse.
“Did something happen? Why are you crying?” he asked me back. “I’ll explain later. Can you pick me up at the lobby?” I hoped I didn’t trouble him by this.
“yes, of course. In fact, I could see you now.” Steve said as I walked out of the elevator. I fastened my pace, and to my surprise, Elijah was still following me.
I hurried up and got into Steve’s car. After Steve locked the door, I quickly put on the seatbelt. He looked confused as he saw Elijah run after me. “Just drive!..” I told him.
