Chapter 40: Alexander Heloin

1073 Words
"What?!" A woman with jet black hair which fell up to her waist straightened up from her leaning position. She was munching on a a fruit which was soaked in human blood when her vision suddenly became black. The scenario playing in her mind, where several humans were walking by themselves willingly into her plate, was suddenly cut off. Her power had shut down unintentionally. No, it was as if her power was absorbed into something and was stolen from her. Clenching on the apple she was holding, the apple was crushed with a crunching sound, the blood which coated the apple splattered from her hands to the floor and the little bits rolled down from her hand to here arm. One of her eyes turned red before it glowed. "Whatever, since my food is soon to arrive, I should at least prepare a welcome party for them." The woman stood up from the soft cushion made from finely ground human bones. *** "The fog became thinner!!" The party rejoiced after the fog had dissipated. They were happy and relieved that they could finally see each other's face even when standing a few yards away from each other. "Was that your doing?" Cain turned around, his eyes were back to their normal black color as he smiled at Filzer. "Well, a lot of things happened in a matter of seconds. I saw my father." Cain's smile became strained as he spoke the last sentence. The word 'father' was said with emphasis as he did. "What do you mean?" Marquis Heloin who could now find his way to their side overheard their conversation. "Didn't your father die a long time ago?" With his eyes narrowed and eyebrows furrowed, Marquis Heloin closed the distance between the three of them. "I meant that my memories with my father flashed before my eyes. Haven't you experienced that Marquis?" Cain tilted his head to the side and stared up to the Marquis. "Ahem, of course, I have. I have!" Marquis cleared his throat and turned his back on them before walking away. Filzer watched as the Marquis's back became smaller before facing Cain. "I see. Did you learn how to use your powers from him?" "Yeah... Sort of." Cain hesitated. He had no idea if teaching was the right term for what happened. But, he decided that explaining is so taxing and it was rather unrelevant, so he didn't told the ancient Dragon what exactly happened. "Well, for now we should continue marching. I'll take the lead," Cain's eyes went to the party and searched for a particular person. His eyes were looking for a man with an unkept hair and rusty and shabby armor. He was looking for the man who was walking in front of him a few minutes ago. "And I want that man beside me as I take the lead." Cain pointed his forefinger toward the scruffy looking man. It was just in time that the party had their attention on the two Stans and heard what the younger Stan had just said. Dozens of pairs of eyes followed the line with which Cain's hands were pointing at before several gasps were heard amongst the crowd. "Me?" The scruffy looking man looked to his sides to his back before looking back at Cain and pointing to himself. "Yes, you. I need you to be hear in the vanguard with me." Cain's forefinger switched to the geound before pointing it to himself. His stoic face and nonchalant voice made no space for arguments. The scruffy looking man walked to the front, the party's eyes were focused on him as he passed by them. "We will continue the march. Get in your positions!" Cain shouted and started to walk without waiting for the others. "I guess I be on the rear then." Filzer waited until the majority of the subjugation party members were in front of him before getting to his position. Meanwhile, a few meter in front and away from the party member's prying eyes and sharp ears, Cain inched closer to the scruffy looking man and leaned into him. "You're strong." The man flinched and looked down on Cain only to have his eyes widen at the sight of Cain's sly smile. "You can't hide your strength with that shabby armor and unkept appearance. They will only serve as your physical disguise and not what is inside." Cain returned to his original position and looked back in front. To the man, it looked like Cain was just gazing straight at the path, but the truth was that his eyes were focused on the thin line made from his blood as it gets absorbed by the wound in his palm. "So, tell me. Who are you?" The scruffy looking man opened his mouth before closing it back again. This happened several times and Cain patiently waited for the man's answer. "I am the Marquis illegitimate son. My name is Alexander Heloin." After a few minutes of contemplation, the scruffy looking man had answered Cain's question and introduced himself along the way. Cain's eyes became crescent in shape as the sides of his lips rose. His assumption about the man's identity was correct. Seeing Cain's reaction, Alexander couldn't helo but be confused. How could someone who had just heard something serious smile ever-so-happily? "You bear a grudge against the Marquis. I guess that is why you were glaring at him the whole time. What are you planning to do with him?" Cain and Alexander continued to walk side by side. "I just want to show him my strength and prove to him that my mother's death of giving birth to me wasn't in vain." Alexander looked down on the ground which was turning hard, unlike the former muddy ground. Cain saw Alexander's face with a frown and sadness in his eyes. "I guess both of our fathers are jerks." Cain chuckled to himself after uttering those words. "What do you mean? From what I remember your father was an honorable man who valued his family the most?" A laugh came out of Cain's mouth after hearing Alexander's innocent remark. "Indeed, he was." Cain said in passing. *** A hundred meters away, inside a dark cave, a woman with a small horn in her forehead hummed as one of her eyes glowed red in the darkness. A short giggle escaped her lips as she swayed her legs.
