Chapter 53: It's a Fortress(3)

1060 Words
'Why is a monster like Cerberus in here?!' Cain knew Cerberus because he had fought it once back at his former world. He was still a knight back then when he fought barehanded with that kind of monster. He remember how he had to defeat it in order to save the beloved daughter of the King. In other words, he had to risk his life to save the princess. He remebered how his blade had no effects on Cerberus hard skin. He never wanted to relive that fight ever again. However, he seemed to have bacd luck since he did not only encounter Cerberus in his past life, but also now when he was finally living a life he had wanted, not to mention in another world. "Don't tell me you followed me here, you son of a bitch." Cain had a small smile on his face, but nervousness could be seen in his eyes. He was anxious about ho this fight would turn out. There was a reason why Cain never wanted to fight Cerberus again if he ever had the chance to fight it, and now that he was presented to that opportunity he never wanted Cain had no choice but to remember all of Cerberus' weak spots and attack patterns. 'That should be the case, but this bastard barely had any weak spots and even if I had memorized all of its attack patterns it would all be useless against that vicous overwhelming strength!' A frown appeared in Cain's forehead. No matter how much of a disadvantegous situation he was, he could not disregard one fact. And that was the fact that Cerberus was a 'gatekeeper' which meant that he was guarding something that no one should ever find out or maybe no one should never lay their hands on. 'No matter what item Cerberus is keeping it is sure to have a great value. The only question is what that item is.' During his last fight against such a strong monster, he had a hard time not only because of its overwhelming strength but mostly because it was tenacious. Even though it was injured to the point of not being able to move it's limbs, Cerberus still tried to fight Cain to pevent him from entering the gate that it was keeping. 'Although, the reward at that time was not only the princess but also an item which made it possible for me to become King.' Back then, Cain had fought against Cerberus because of the King's Royal Decree to save the Princess, he got another thing for accepting such a mission which had a massive possibility for him to croak in the middle. The item was that of a skill which can make him see through the truths and lies of whatever he senses. Because of such a skill he never had the trouble on who to trust, however, even such skill had a limit to its use. Although, he had used it the entire time of his rebel against the King and half of the time he spent as a King himself, the skill had suddenly disappeared one day. That was also the reason why he had lost hte person he never got the chance to profess his feelings for. Cain shook his head harshly to shake away the unnecessary thoughts that might actually make him croak this time and faced the formidable foe in front of him. He studied Cerberus' stance and watched every single movement it had in each passing second. Cerberus growled in a low tone and made the hound, its subordinates to make the first move. "Ha! How cowardly of you to have your subordinates attack me so you could analyze how strong I am?!" Cain had a his eyes wide open, his eyebrows raised and a mocking smile was plastered on his face. His provocation seemed to have reached Cerberu because of its next actions. Cerberus took a step forward and in a single swing of its paws one of the hounds went flying several meters away from them and fell to the ground with a thud. The dry leaves and twig under the three meters big hound had snapped and crunch which was consideraly a loud noise in such a silent night. Cain stared at the body of the hound that stayed still on the ground for a couple of seconds. "Waa~. It's dead." Cain had an unbelievable look on his face as his eyes stayed at the dead body of the hound before his eyes switched back to Cerberus. Cerberus had its eyes focused on Cain only. With another step forward, the ground under Cain's feet quaked. 'It's finally ready to fight, huh?' Cerberus was finally stepping up to the ring where they would decide who the victor would become. "Don't worry. I won't make it hurt. I'll finish this quickly." Leaving only those last words, Cain dashed forward, the ground beneath his feet cracked with every single step he took. He thought that winning this fight against Cerberus alone would not be too hard for him. After all, he had five years of experience in battling against demonic creatures that seem to not feel pain nor fear nor pressure against their opponents. 'And I still have two cards hidden up my sleeve.' Cain had Filzer's teachings and the demonic mana that he had received as a reward. And right now his inner mana had covered his entire body, which made it stronger than steel. If Cerberus had the advantage because of its hard skin that not any blade could pierce of even leave a scratch, Cain now also had such a body. Cain jumped and flew a few meters above ground, his sword had already left his waistbelt earlier since it was useless against the monster in front of him. Instead, Cain raised his fist and used his inner mana to strengthen it even more. At that moment, his fist was the hardest part of his body. Of course, reinforcing his entire body with his limited inner mana and even strengthening his already reinforced fist made his mana deplete much faster. However, 'I have tons of demonic mana in me, so it's not like mana depletion is a problem.' A smirk snaked into Cain's face as he swung his fist down along his body's falling momentum.
