Filzer, Alexander, and Telph were running around the Great Lands. It was already dark but the could not get themselves to leave. It was because of the booming sound that occured earlier followed by the ground shaking terribly.
Filzer who was the first to regain his composure when after the quake had ran towards the direction of the sound without any hesitation.
"Just where the hell are we going?"
Alexander who was panting horribly could not hold himself back from asking anymore. He had followed Filzer deeper into the Great Lands without question because of the obvious reason that he was of higher rank than him and was stronger than any of the three of them.
Meanwhile, Telph who was having a hard time catching up to the two men who were faster in running than a horse. He had a strange look on his face and was clenching his chest. Although, he was quite confident about his stamina because of what he experienced in the hands of his cruel father and brother he was not a good runner.
"The sound came from the deeper parts of the Great Lands."
Filzer continued to run as he spoke. Alexander looked at Filzer's back and frowned at his sudden mutterings.
"Don't you understand that the origin of thesound may have something to do with Cain?"
With such a straightforward statement Alexander finally got what Filzer had meant. However, no matter how he realized such a fact he could not ignore another one.
With a swift gaze from behind, Alexander saw that Telph who was still managing on catching up to them earlier was now falling back.
"We can't go further than here."
Alexander gritted his teeth before speaking. A moment of silence had descended between the two of them.
FIlzer knew all too well what Alexander meant. The two of them could prceed further into the deeper parts of the Great Lands. However, that talk was if they were the only ones going.
Telph was excluded in that possibility. They could not leave Telph on his own in that place nor could they let him or tell him to go back first because it would be dangerous. the both of them knew that if any of those situations were presented to him he would likely to hate the two of them, Alexander did not want that.
He and Telph had barely become close to each other before he set off to this forsaken ground, he could not allow thier relationship to go awry when it has not even been a day since they got a little bit close.
"I know."
Filzer whispered, the wind blew his words for Alexander to hear. Alexander's frown deepened in his forehead.
"I know, but this is our only chance-"
"There is no guarantee that that sound have something to do with Cain. Please think this through more carefully."
Alexander cut Filzer off. A rational thought, no, more like an emotional though crossed his mind at that moment.
What if the sound does not have anything to do with Cain? What if it leads to another disaster and they lose Telph too? What if can goes back safe to the Stan estate without Telph, what would he feel? How would they face him when they could not even save the person he had saved and took in personally before?
A ton of what ifs had flood Alexander's mind.
Just like how Alexander had a lot of what ifs bugging him, Filzer was also the same. However, the only difference was that Filzer was thinking more about what creature was inside the place deeper into the Great Lands where no one has ever ventured into before.
'A sound that loud that from such a far away place to reach somewhere nearer the border is made by no ordinry monster.'
Such a loud sound followed by a brief earthquake could not be made by such low grade monsters simply because they are weak.
Filzer shut his eyes and activated his mana perception. His vision reached as far as the entrance of the deeper parts of the Great Lands, however, it could not reach the place where he wanted to see.
Sucking in air, Filzer slowed down in his tracks and looked at the ground beside his feet. It was muddy from the mist that was forming. It was a signal that dawn was already coming. they had been running around all night after trying to look for more traces that may lead them to where the hell Cain was.
"Wh-what's the ma-matter?"
Telph managed to catch up with them and washuffing and puffing for air while his right hand was clutching his chest and the other resting on his knees.
Filzer lifted his head and looked towards Telph.
""We are going back to the estate."
Telph's head swiftly raised and his eyes quickly found Filzer's.
"What do you mean?"
His voice was not shaking anymore and it was calmer. However, he was still gasping for air and trying to fill his lungs with it.
"We can't go further. We are near the deeper parts of the Great Lands, even if we want to go inside we can't. It is too dangerous. We might lose our lives the momen we step inside if we are not careful."
Alexander was the one to explain the situation to telph. He had purposely talked first before Filzer could even open his mouth because he was afraid that he would not find the right words to say and hurt telph's feelings once again.
"Oh, is that so?"
Telph's shoulder's slupped and his eyes looked sad and worried. Alexander could not help but avoid his gaze and look down on the ground before nodding his head confirming Telph's affirmation.
"I guess we need to go back now then. But surely we will go back here tomorrow or maybe the day after tomorrow to look for the young master again, right?"
Telph looked up at Filzer, his eyes were now filled with determination and the sadness was replaced with bravery.
He was going to find Cain by hook or by crook.
