Chapter 7: Be Positive.

KIKI’S POV.
I got an email from Mike this morning, telling me the shipment I am meant to stop has been stopped by Aurelio, Marino’s capo due to whatever I don’t care to know about. I have got two jobs now, to assassinate Marino himself and to aid in diverting the shipment to our own turf.
Right now, I should be preparing myself mentally for meeting Alejandro tonight. I have no plans on wearing a ski mask and not wanting to show myself. It is not like I can hide myself for long. We practically live in the same house now and the only reason why I have not been seen is because this house is large enough for a family of thirty to live without being inconvenient.
Should I really prepare myself to see him?
After most one nightstands, it becomes awkward to meet again and that’s for the novels. This is reality and we were a couple before the long separation.
“Kiki, let’s do this.” Bianca walks into my room while flaunting the test kit and I stand.
“Are you ready for whatever might be the result? You shouldn’t make Mike’s decision the key to keeping this child if you are pregnant. You should ask yourself these questions; am I ready to become a mother? Can I bear whatever consequence it takes to be pregnant? Do I want this child? Once you’ve done that, go right into my bathroom and carry on with the test. I will be right here waiting for you.” I saunter towards the door and lock it.
She strides towards my nightstand and place down the kit carefully. She walks towards me and stop few inches away from me.
“Whatever the result might be. I do not want to have my hopes high. I want this child, but what if I am not pregnant? What if I just missed my monthly periods for just few months due to medical reasons? I do not want to make up my mind now and then have my hopes fall flat. Even if Mike doesn’t want this child we all work for one reason, money and we have a lot of it. I can give my child all of the love and care a child needs. Who needs a father when one has the best mother.” I can tell she is talking to herself more than she is talking to me.
“Bianca.” I whisper and her held back tears stream down her face.
“I need him the most. I also do not want my child to grow without his or her father. Except if I detach myself from the mafia, I will see Mike everyday. I mean he is the capo of this family. I will see him almost everyday.” She cries and I move to sit.
“You know what? Maybe you should carry out this test while he waits for you? What if you let him know that you think you might be pregnant? Mike literally brought me up. I have known him for years and I have always wished for him to settle. You are the first woman he ever made his priority after the mafia. He might have wanted to start a family in the past and now not anymore, but whatever made him to want to start a family with you in the first place can still be somewhere in him.” I tell her and she moves to sit on the cushioned chair across my bed.
“Sometimes when I look at how ruthless my man is in the mafia, I start to think I will be treated the same if he ever stops loving me. I know relationships do have ups and downs, but when it is getting too much then I think the love is fading and the relationship is about to come to an end. I also do want Joe and him to have a rift.
I know what my brother is capable of. He might hurt Mike if he finds out Mike has some other women he is screwing. If he is tired of me, he should let me know. I will cry for three months or maybe a year and maybe someday I will be okay. If I am really pregnant my child would always remind him, but we can do better without him, right? I just hope he doesn’t come back in future to claim me and my child as his when he realizes his mistake.” She finishes and stride towards the test kit.
She picks it up and make use of a small smile before rubbing her tummy with her free hand.
“I will take the test with him present. I will let him know of my suspicion and he will be there while I am taking the test. What if he will be happy about it? That means I have taken the joy of finding out with me that I am pregnant from him. Thank you Kiki and thank you for returning. We should go out for some drinks or have a drink party right here in your room depending on however the test results comes out and he reacts when he finds out.” She adds and I smile.
“Be positive.” I say.
“Pregnantly or emotionally?” She tries to c***k a joke but I can tell how hard it is for her.
“Mindedly.” I know there’s no such English, but who cares.
“Thank you.” she replies and open the door to leave.
Leaving me to lay with my back on the bed, I fix my gaze on the chandelier and fold my hands on my tummy. Everything seems boring right now. I have got nothing to do. I can’t move around because I am not really comfortable with living right here, but I do not have a choice. If I want to work with and for the mafia, I need to stay within the turf.
I hope Mike realizes screwing some other woman while he has an heated argument with his actual woman is so wrong. I am not so sure if I should come in. If Mike isn’t saying anything to me then I shouldn’t behave like I am aware of whatever is going on between him and Bianca. I really hope she is pregnant and this pregnancy reunites them.
Lucy, leaving Alejandro might not be chance for me to get him back to me. It only leaves more reason for Alejandro to act ruthlessly from henceforth. Lucy leaving him might have left a mark that women do not deserve to be loved, but should he judge based on just two women?
“Hi, Alejandro. It has been years.” I practice in front of the mirror.
No way! That’s the most stupid thing to say.
“It feels good to see you again after a long time.”
That won’t work either. It is not some family reunion.
“Surprised to see me?”
Shit! No!
Maybe I need not to practice. It is not like he is going to intimidate me. I mean he wasn’t even drunk while we had a thing that night. Last I checked he still has feelings for me. He can bear watching me from afar, but he can’t bear losing me.
I can act like the one nightstand meant nothing to me as much as it meant nothing to him. I bet he doesn’t love me as much as he used but he can still work with me.
“I am your new secretary and personal assassin, Kiki.” I mouth and facepalm myself.
Maybe not. Who except Alejandro employs a personal assassin despite the number of soldiers he has?
If only I had not left back then, I would be in Alejandro’s position or maybe not.
“Get the door.” I hear Mike’s voice from the other end of the door and I sit.
“You won’t be walking in a naked woman if you come in.” I shout loud enough for just him to hear me.
“Are you ready to face him? He claims to want to see the lady who Aunt Phoebe felt is capable enough to be left alone to bring down the Marino’s family capo and claim their shipment as ours.” He informs me and I stand.
“I am ready to do the job my mother offered me. However Alejandro treats me will determine if I will work for him or if I would get my mom’s crown and become the boss. You know me well Mike, nothing seems impossible for me except I haven’t tried.” I reply.
“What if that breaks the family?” He asks.
“I have a plan. Let’s leave that till then.” I answer and he sits on the chair Bianca was sitting on.
“Kiki, we need to talk.” He starts.
I can already tell where this is going. I think Bianca must have told him and now he is here to…
“Let’s talk.” I reply and he slouches forward.
“Recently, I and Bianca have been having different issues. Some part of the issue led to me sleeping with some other woman and I think Bianca found out. She has not had any usual conversation with me, she sleeps on the sofa in the room every night. We do not even kiss anymore our relationship of almost six years seems to be going down the drain and it feels like I can’t fix it. I shouldn’t have let our issues lead me into cheating on the woman I love so much. I know Bianca hasn’t treated you as a friend like she used to, I think I am partly one of the reasons why she has not been herself. I think she is done pretending to everyone like she is okay. Kiki, she just moved some of her stuffs from my room and I am scared to hear her next words.
Cheating is my only mistake and it only happened after the rift between us. The distance between us just began to grow everyday. I miss her when she is right n front of me. I want to hold her, I want to be there when she cries. I want to be the man who stops all of her tears. I may no longer be ready to be a father, but I am ready to be the man she wants for the rest of her life. I love Bianca. I love her so much and the distance between us is killing me.” He tells me and for the first time I can see tears in Mike’s eyes.
But dang!
My father figure isn’t ready to be a father yet.
“Have you two tried talking? Did you start a conversation with her and she ignored you? Mike, you have been like a father and brother to me. You were the first person to take me back when I returned and one thing I would hate to see is you being unhappy. You screwing some other woman is one of the big mistakes that terminates a relationship, but you two can talk things out.” I reply.
Now that Mike, isn’t ready to be father. I really do not know what will happen to Bianca if she is actually pregnant. This pregnancy might create more distance between them which might also lead to a rift between him and Joe. What we do not need now is a rift between this family. Once we have a rift, there is a gap for our enemies to penetrate.
“It is time for you to meet, Alejandro.” He wipes his eyes and glance at his watch.
Standing, I pick up my leather jacket from the coat rack and tug it on.
”Let’s move.” I reply and he stands too.
He walks right in front of me as he leads the way and I follow behind him until we get to his office. Waiting outside as only Mike goes in, I hear him mention she is here.
“You can come in.” Mike says and my boot clicks against the tile of his office as I walk until I am standing right in front of his desk.
He turns in his swivel chair and as soon as he sees me, he can’t hide the shock.
