Greg and Justin play Ispy on the drive back. They go back and forth bickering over if it's cheating to spy something we passed already. It is but I don't care to listen or engage in the argument.
I stare at the phone number scrawled out in neat handwriting on my palm. Their voices become background hum compared to the melodic voice ringing in my ear.
The way her lips passed my name, causing small shivers to travel down my spine. It's weird that we just met and I miss her already.
Everyone knows the general idea of mates. They're made for each other and no one else will ever compare to your own.
Everyone knows what to expect when you meet your mate. But it's what I wasn't expecting that I can't stop thinking about.
Everything seemed beautiful, though not as beautiful as her. The stars shone brighter, colors more vivid and my body more alive than I ever thought possible.
It's like I didn't know a piece of me was missing until she snapped it into place.
For a moment, everything was right and the world made sense.
I stare at the window at the darkness that fills the empty space. I want nothing more than to be traveling the opposite way, back to her arms.
"TREVOR!" Justin shouts, causing me to jump and bang my head on the roof of the car.
"What the f**k?!" I yell, punching him in the arm for startling me.
Greg laughs from the driver seat but never takes his eyes off of the road.
"I kept asking you a question and you kept ignoring me. Whoever kept you occupied had to have been a good lay for you to be so distracted." He laughs but all I saw was red.
How dare he think that Eliza was just some girl to kill some time with! I reach out and punch him again, gaining a satisfying crunch from his nose.
"Don't you dare talk of my mate that way!" I seethe, my breath coming in short pants as I fight my wolf for control.
Greg slams on the breaks, Justin and I flying back against our seat belts not expecting the sudden stop. my hands grip the headrest in front of me and my eyes are wide as I calm my beating heart.
"Mate?" Both their eyes are wide as they turn to stare at me.
Justin does nothing to stop the blood flowing from his nose. He just sits there mouth open like fish, waiting for me to answer.
I can feel the stupid smile on my face as I think of Eliza. No matter how I try fight it, to look nonchalant, I can't.
"Yeah" the car begins moving again and I tune out whatever they're saying.
I focus instead on the vision of Eliza in front of me. Her smooth skin under my finger tips, the feel of her lips on mine.
Everything felt right and now it doesn't.
Everything feels colder, darker without her. I feel like I left a huge part of myself back there and without it I can't breathe.
Soon. I just have to keep telling myself that soon she will be in my arms again.
I will tell Storm and Alpha Dean that she is my mate and we will form an alliance. I wonder if she'll move to Black Raven for me? She can be the Beta female and we can visit her family as often as she'd like, since the next Alpha of Dark Knight is Kellan's son, Axel.
The car stops outside of the pack house and my father is waiting at the steps with Alpha Dean and Storm. All three wear matching worried expression, but they visibly relax when they see all three of us unharmed.
"Welcome back. I'm sure we have much to discuss, let's move to my office." Alpha Dean says before turning and walking into the house.
Storm sticks his hand out before pulling me into a bro hug. We pat each other's backs for a few seconds longer that what we normally do. We are more than best friends, we are like brothers.
"Give me a hint. Was that Jonas kid correct?" He whispers as we make the trip to the Alpha's office.
I nod grimly, not liking the idea of an attack. But now that we know and have an idea what we could be up against, we stand a better chance. Plus my mate being the Alpha's daughter will help our cause.
Alpha Dean sits behind his large mahogany desk, with my father comfortably on his right side. Justin and Greg sit facing them in two chairs, leaving Storm and I to stand. Not that I want to sit, my body is still thrumming with energy.
"It is as was told, Alpha. Dark Knight seems to be planning something against us." Greg starts, looking at both my father and the Alpha.
No point beating around the bush or haggling with idle chit chat. Oh yes, the drive was fine, thank you for asking.
"There is more, Sir. Alpha Alexander from BloodRose was there." Justin pipes in and I glad he did because I already forgot about him.
"Bloodrose? But they and Dark Knight are enemies? Are you sure?" My father asks incredulously, leaning forward to rest his elbows on the desk.
"We only heard but we saw Trevor talking with him." Justin and Greg share brief glance before turning to me.
"He introduced himself to me as Alexander of BloodRose. I would say they are teaming up." I confirm, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Maybe it was-" Storm starts but is cut off by his father.
"No. We will waste no more time speculating. The facts are here. They want a fight they will get a fight." he stands slowly, resting his palms on the desk.
His eyes are calculating and there is a ferociousness behind them that scares me a little. I can practically see the gears turning in his head, running over every course of action that can be taken.
"Alpha if I-" I begin to tell him about Eliza and that an alliance could be on the horizon but he interrupts.
"Calvin, Call a meeting with the warriors and I want us on a code four lock down. Women and children to the underground safe houses." My father nods in understanding as he begins to walk out of the room.
"Alpha, I-" my nose flares as once again, I am cut off.
"Storm. You and Trevor get the patrols ready and switch up the routes. I want no normal runs. Every patrol runs a different route." Storm nods looking at me with a confused look when he sees my anger.
I can feel the words rising from my throat. I try to hold them in, I don't want to yell at the Alpha. But the idea that Eliza could get hurt in an attack is overwhelming all my other senses.
"I met my mate. She is the daughter of Alpha Kellan." I rush out.
Crickets. I could literally hear Crickets chirping as three pairs of eyes stare at me in shock. The other two pairs are lit with amusement as they take in the situation but I ignore them. A smile spreads across my face as an image of Eliza against the tree floats into my mind.
Wouldn't it be great if we could print our memories like photographs?
"His daughter?" Alpha Dean clarifies, eyes wide in disbelief.
"Yes. Eliza." Even me saying her name sounds dreamily, but I don't think that anyone caught it but me.
Storm is the first one to break out of his trance, hugging me again.
"Congrats Trev. I can't wait to meet her." He says sincerely and although I know he meant it innocently, my wolf growls at him so eager to meet my mate. But I don't say anything.
Storm keeps his arm slung around my shoulders and he tried to rub his knuckles against my head, but we end up just kind of wrestling. Each one of us, trying to get the upper hand when we tumble onto the floor.
"Enough boys." Alpha Dean calls and we both stop, standing up and straightening our clothes.
The Alpha takes a deep breath and nods towards my dad. They must have been talking through the mind link. My dad gives me a brief look, but I can't place the emotion I see there. Sympathy?
Storm must have seen it to, because his body becomes tense. We look at the Alpha, our breaths hitching together when he speaks.
"I'm sorry Trevor. This changes nothing."
