"Trev, here is the Edeline plant to mask our scents." Justin knocks on the door, before opening it and handing me a small white bottle.
Edeline is a pack secret. It is strictly need to know and only used in emergencies. The plant grows near a lake on our territory and only blooms during the blood moon. The flower is harvested for its healing properties and the leaves for scent masking.
It literally has no smell.
A few sprays of this and the scent from Black Raven will be gone. All we will have to do is bump into a few people on our way into the party and we will seem like we belong to Dark Knight.
"Alright guys. Just try to blend in and keep your ears open." I tell them, securing the black cape around my shoulders.
Justin and Greg have similar outfits as mine. The only difference is our masks. Mine is silver, Greg's is black and Justin has a red with black accents. We take turns spraying each other with the Edeline and once satisfied the smell is masked, we leave to the elevators.
There are a few people milling about in the halls and they seem to notice us, but it is a group of teenage girls in the lobby that give us the most attention. I can feel their eyes burning into our backs as we walk by. I can hear them whispering their gossip about how good we look.
Kellan's pack house is only about a mile from here, so we decide to walk. It will be a perfect chance to get the packs scent on our clothes. We walk quickly in a line, moving among the trees of the unfamiliar territory with ease.
The music begins to echo in the air telling us that we are close. Greg and Justin shift so that they are each on one of my sides as we exit the woods without delay.
The large house was easily three stories tall and was more like a Victorian castle then a pack house. Cars lined the circular driveway as wolves filed into the door. We easily fell into step, no one noticing our sudden arrival from the woods. This plan couldn't be working more flawlessly. At this point, I believe nothing can go wrong.
Dark blue curtains billow in the light breeze as we enter the ballroom. The music is loud, but we can still hear the talking of groups. Perks of being a werewolf.
"Split up." I say lowly before moving through the crowd.
I excuse myself as I purposely bump into a few people, solidifying the scent sticking to my clothes. If anything can be said about Alpha Kellan, he knows how to throw a party.
A few tables are sat along the edges of the room, with black and white colored tablecloths. The dance floor has multicolored light swirling and pulsing to the beat of the music. There is a buffet table set up to one side, and I can already see that Justin has made himself at home there.
"Enjoying the party?" A deep masculine voice says behind me.
I take a deep breath before turning around and come face to face with a man a few years older than I am. His black hair gelled and combed over. His light eyes scrutinizing me from behind a dark red mask.
"Yes. Thank you. How about yourself." I know that this isn't Alpha Kellan, but the power radiating from him is certainly Alpha.
"Kellan really out did himself for this one. I don't think I recognize your scent. Who are you?" He asks, eyes narrowing as he tries to see beyond the mask.
"I'm Cody. Just a pack wolf no special rank. But Alpha invited everyone." I say, bowing my head slightly even though it churns my stomach to do so.
The man just nods seemingly deep in thought. I try my best not to show it, but I am sweating. My nerves skyrocketed and I think he figured out that I don't belong here.
"Alexander. Alpha of the Bloodrose Pack." He says and my eyes widen slightly.
Why is the Alpha of Bloodrose here? They are supposed to be enemies just like Black Raven. My mind begins to think of all sorts of possibilities but it looks like Jonas was right. The only reason they would be together is if they decided to team up for an attack.
"Excuse, I must go find your Alpha." He walks quickly away.
If Bloodrose and Dark Knight attack Black Raven, then we are really in trouble. This is key information and with this we can have time to get organized and find our own allies. Still there is no just reason to attack.
Yes we have been enemies, but we live somewhat peacefully. We don't bother them, they don't bother us. So why the change?
"Oh I am so sorry." A girl squeals as she bumps into me.
She trips over her giant bubblegum pink dress but I manage to catch her before she falls to the ground. She laughs awkwardly at her embarrassment before her brown eyes meet mine under her black mask.
"are you okay?" I try to hide my laughter but I think I failed.
"Yes, sorry. I was in a rush to get to Eliza. She's having a wardrobe malfunction and is freaking out so I have to get there quickly. and I didn't see you! But I'm fine. Om my Goddess are you okay? I didn't hurt you did I?" She talks quickly and I open my mouth to respond but she keeps going.
"Please don't tell Alpha Kellan! I got the job of his daughters omega because her and I have been friends for years and Eliza begged him when my parents died. I had nowhere else to go you know and Eliza wanted to help. You know we are more than friends we are practically like sisters, but that's beside the point. What were we talking about again?" She asks, smoothing the front of her gown.
"Uh. Eliza is looking for you?" Wow she can talk!
" Oh right! Excuse me." She takes off towards a giant staircase and I watch as she disappears down the hall.
I bet the Alpha's office is up there.
"Ladies and Gentlemen." A man walks three stairs up and stands facing the masked crowd.
The music is lowered to a soft background hum. Everyone quiets as they observe the man in an all black mask. His hands raise to untie the thin ribbon, revealing himself as Alpha Kellan. I resist the urge to growl at the cocky son of a bit-
"Thank you for coming tonight. This is a great day for the Dark Knight pack. My daughter Eliza is eighteen today." The crowd erupts into claps and wolf whistles. The Alpha raises his hands demanding silence and his pack delivers.
"Tonight is the start of our future. Let's all wish Eliza a Happy birthday." He gestures up the stairs where bubblegum girl stands with her arm linked with another girl.
A deep red ball gown clings to her chest, before flowing down her legs. Her brown hair is swept back into an elegant, yet messy bun. Her red mask has black lace trimmed around it and a black feather on the side.
Her brown eyes survey the crowd with a smile on her perfect lips and my breath lodges in my throat.
Mate.
