CHAPTER FOUR

1014 Words
THALIA'S POV Walking along the packhouse of the White Claw Pack, the pack members' gazes followed me. I wondered why they were staring at me that way. They all stood still and a lot of them were huddling together. "That's the new Luna. I heard she used to be a servant in the Wolf Blood Pack," I heard one of the female wolves standing at the corner say. Her scrutinizing look was all over me. I couldn't even maintain her gaze so I had to just look away and focus on walking forward. She was whispering to another female wolf standing by her. "New Luna? Was there an old Luna?" I thought in my head as I kept walking through the pack, hoping to reach the mighty mansion across from where I was me. Curiosity took over me, and even as I walked, I had no choice but to keep listening to them speak. Nova, my wolf, was really attentive and could aid me in hearing from a distance. "Hmmm, who knows how long this new one is going to last before the alpha kills her too, just like Lucia," the second one said. "Lucia?? Who was Lucia?" I asked Nova in my head as my heart throbbed quickly. "Whoever Lucia was, she was killed by Alpha Tristan, and then... He married you," Nova said in my head and my mouth fell. I gulped, momentarily freezing in my steps, and my heart began to pound in fear of what I just heard. "Alpha Tristan killed his first Luna, and then he came to marry me so he could kill me too?" I said, a lump forming in my throat. Was he going to kill me too? I quickly started moving again, realizing the risk involved in disobeying him. I couldn't help but feel like I escaped death because he just warned me about my lateness. He could have killed me right then and went off to marry a third one. Just as I walked up to the mansion, I saw a muscular man standing at the door. "I- I, the alpha... he asked me to come here," I stuttered before finally articulating my words. "Oh... you must be Alpha Tristan's new Luna, Thalia. You're welcome to the pack," he said, pushing the door open. He just confirmed what the women out there were saying, he called me the new Luna. I didn't know where to go from there as I stepped into the mansion. Then suddenly, I heard the man's voice again. "My name is Greene. I am Alpha Tristan's beta. I assume he asked you to wait in his private chamber," he said, and I gulped. I was shocked at how the beta knew just what Alpha Tristan told me. "How did you—" I said, trailing off, as he led the way, walking in front of me. "That is what he usually says to any woman who comes into the mansion," he said, and I had no idea what that meant. I tried to not think about what it meant. "So.. why didn't you come along with him to witness the ceremony?" I asked the beta and then he scoffed. "The Alpha chooses who he wants, you dare not be where he didn't ask you to be," he said and my brows furrowed. It was an extremely large mansion, and it took us up to 10 minutes of walking to get to Alpha Tristan's private chamber. "Here, you may go in and wait for him. Just before I go, I must say this to you... if you're going to get anyone angry in this pack, it shouldn't be Alpha Tristan," Beta Greene said, and then he stormed out. He left me alone with my thoughts, pondering about everything I heard since my arrival at the pack... I thought I had heard it all about Alpha Tristan until I heard the worst of it all from those two women outside who revealed he killed his first Luna. "Nova, what have we gotten into?" I asked, my heart still racing in fear as I stood in the center of his chamber. My eyes wandered off to the bed, the desk, the paintings, and then, my eyes caught the picture of a beautiful young lady. "This must be her, Thalia. This must be Alpha Tristan's first mate, Lucia," Nova said in my head, bidding me to walk closer to the portrait. Deep down, I was shaken by the fear of being in the private space of a man who killed his Luna. "Did he really kill her? Oh my God, he must be such a monster to still keep her portrait in his chamber after murdering her," I said in fear, covering my mouth as I panicked. I walked over to the portrait and then grabbed at it and unhooked it from where it hung on the wall. "You were so beautiful. What did you do to deserve this?" I whispered, my heart sinking in fear. I didn't think I was anything close to her so long her beauty was concerned. Would I be the next whose picture would be hung up there when the 3rd Luna comes? Just as I asked that question in my mind, I trembled violently, mistakenly dropping the frame when I heard a chilling voice from behind me in such a close distance. "What are you doing?" the cold voice said. The glass coating the portrait shattered when it hit the floor, and I gasped, covering my mouth. . . Would I be killed for this? Suddenly, Alpha Tristan pulled at my shoulder roughly and forced me to turn to face him. "How dare you?" He said, with a low and trembling voice that made my heart stop in fear. . . "You have the guts to touch a thing in here. I told you to just obey," he said, grabbing at my throat and pushing me against the wall. "Surely, disobedience will attract punishment," he said, and I gulped as he held me against the wall. . .
