Are You My Mate?

Chapter 5

* "Everyone look alive the Luna is here!" says Maggie as she quickly walks past my office. Nelson scurries out and over to his own office I suppose, but I stand up curious to know what she is doing here. I walk down the hall until I see her going through a file cabinet. "Good morning Luna Karen, may I help you with something?" "Yes hold these," she says as she hands me a stack of folders. "If you tell me what you're looking for I can help you get to it faster" I say as I put the stack on a nearby desk. 

"Ugh, it's you," she says as she turns to me. "I need to find my sons folder" "I will be happy to help you with that, if you will follow me," "Can you make sure that no one touches these?" I say to Maggie as she and a few others watch on. 

"Since you, the Alpha and Dean are the reason we have a pack your things are stored in a more secure part of the building, so that not just anyone will have access to your records" She doesn't say anything, she only makes a face as she continues to walk beside me clearly not wanting to walk behind me.  

I just keep smiling and I make sure she knows that I am not belittling her in any way since Areta says my rank is higher. "Even if you were an Omega too, you would still be of higher rank than her," "Areta please don't start now, I may be able to get her to like me," "Good luck, she already has her ideal daughter in law and it's definitely not you," "She'll probably want a snake like her," "Are we almost there,?" says the Luna before I can even answer Areta. I block her off and I continue walking because I don't want to hear her doubting me and because I want to at least try. 

"Yes it's just around the corner we can't be too safe" I say with a light chuckle only causing her to roll her eyes at me. I get my managers key out of my pocket and I unlock a big metal door then I stand to the side and wait for her to enter. 

"This is your family cabinet and here is his personal drawer" I also show her which one belongs to her and the Alpha as well as the past Alphas and Lunas, which she doesn't seem interested in the least. She grabs the papers and looks at my hand when her hand brushes against mine. "What kind of lotion do you use?" she asks as she grabs my hand. "I don't know what ever brand the house keeper buys" "She always just buys what ever my parents bought" She rolls her eyes. "You are such a brat" she says surprising me. It actually hurts my feelings. 

I feel Areta trying to get through, but I fight to keep her back, because I know how she feels about the Luna. "I'll ask her and I'll let you know" "It's fine, I'm sure I can find it," she says as she heads towards the exit. I close up the cabinet and quickly follow after her. 

I'm not surprised when she walks out the exit without thanking me or anyone else. I only head over to put away the files that she took out of the pack cabinet. As I'm going through them I see my mom's name, but it shouldn't be here because this is the area that holds new members and that would mean she was not born here like my dad. 

I take a couple of pictures of the information with my phone then I finish putting them away. "You should have called her a-" "That's no way for me to win her over Areta"  I say cutting her off. I knew she was just waiting for me to open back up to her. 

"She doesn't care about you," she says angrily. "She hurt your feelings and she'll keep doing it if you don't stop her" she says sounding a little more calmer when I don't answer. "I just don't want to ruin my chances with Dean" "Firstly, he may not be your mate and if he is he will choose you over anyone even his b***h of a mom," I don't say anything to stop her from getting her frustration out because I don't what her to lash out at her the next time we see her. 

"I won't say anything unless she causes you to cry" (I'm lucky I held back my tears then) I convince her to drop it by telling her that I will train and run for a week straight with no slacking. I even decided to train at home since my dad had a thing going why stop it. She was so happy, she didn't get on to me for going to a pub with Maggie. 

As soon as we got off we went to her favorite spot I didn't really drink a glass of red wine was a lot for me. I just wanted to make sure she got home safe. I grew up alone so my work friends are more like family than coworkers.  

We talk about what Luna Karen and I did and talked about and how brave I was. "I just really wanted to help her so that she would mess up our hard work" "Yeah you've got some big ass balls because she's a total b***h," she laughs before taking another shot. "Please don't start Areta you said you'd drop it" I say when she laughs loudly, obviously agreeing with Maggie.

"Okay, I think we've had enough for today," I say when she burps and lays back with her eyes closed. Her mom just died so she's been drinking more. I always try to comfort her, but I understand her pain so I can't say I wouldn't do the same if I didn't have so much support from the pack. 

Everyone loved my parents, so I was taken care of but Maggie's mom was just a preschool teacher and for some reason it isn't as important as a Gamma or whatever my mom was. If it wasn't for Areta and my job I probably would be the same, drinking whenever I got the chance but she barely lets me rest after work. (To her I've been slacking)

After I drop her off at her house her brother helps me to carry her in, then I, head to the edge of the woods to keep my promise to Areta. 

My entire body was sore when I woke up the next morning but I could feel Areta's pride, so I didn't complain. I just took a quick hot shower and got dressed for work. (Today is going to be a good day) I think to myself. (Unless I see Luna Karen) I add. I don't know why she dislikes me. I remember even as a child she seemed to treat me this way, but only away from other pack members.

I skip the breakfast that my house keeper prepared and I grab an apple. She gets on to me until I tell her I'll eat it for dinner. I'm just not hungry, I only grab the apple in case I want something to snack on later before lunchtime.
