**Romick (POV) **
[Kaarmanet, Academy]
Restless vibes were hitting me hard that evening. The clock was inching towards midnight, and I was itching for a walk to clear my head. Figured since everyone else was knocked out, it was prime time for some solo chill vibes. I was craving that peace, especially since it felt like a distant dream ever since that drama in the dining hall, almost a moon ago. And wouldn't you know? That night, just like the first day of school, I heard that same mysterious, captivating voice whispering in my head. Talk about déjà vu!
"Would it kill him to ask what happened before jumping in front of that bit*h?" She said, stopping me in my tracks, "It's not like she likes him for who he is, just his title!"
"Am I going crazy or does that voice seem like it's Kyrah's voice?" Arsa had quickly pointed out.
I was convinced Kyrah had to be pulling some shady spell shenanigans to mess with my head. But why, you ask? Probably to turn me against Helen, the sneaky snake! Just the thought of her scheming got my blood boiling with rage. But oh no, Kyrah's mind games didn't stop there. Two days later, Prof. Kiah swooped in to collect the final names of students interested in Yugjetre. I immediately ducked my head, hoping to blend into the background and avoid Prof. Dasha's prying gaze.
"Is he scared of his brothers?" I heard Kyrah's voice yet again, "So the popular big bad wolf is a scaredy little kitten in reality?"
I clenched my teeth so hard I thought they might shatter, standing up abruptly and slamming my palm against the desk as I reluctantly gave my name for the Championship. But as I glanced over at Prof. Dasha, his raised eyebrow and smirk sent a shiver down my spine. And then, when I looked at Kyrah, there she was, smirking as well.
That's when it hit me like a ton of bricks – I'd been played. Kyrah had tricked me into signing up for the championship, and I was seething with rage. I had no idea what her endgame was, but I knew it couldn't be good. She was out to manipulate and humiliate me, and I wasn't about to let her get away with it.
So, I pulled some strings to convince the professors to let me sit next to her in class in the name of "helping", just so I could keep an eye on her. Every time she tried to pull one of her sneaky tricks, my blood boiled with anger, and I couldn't help but hurl insults at her. But then, when I heard she was going to spill the beans to Helen about me being kicked out of the race for the Alpha title, I lost it. Without thinking, I grabbed her, slammed her head against the desk, and pretended it was all just an accident when the noise caught everyone's attention.
A flicker of movement on the training grounds snapped me out of my thoughts, pulling my attention away from my musings. Squinting into the darkness, I soon realized it was none other than the thorn in my side: Kyrah Frost-Green. But what in the world was she doing here at this ungodly hour? Suspicion pricked at my senses as I decided to follow her and see just what this blind princess was up to.
"Happy Birthday to us, Rom!" Arsa's voice burst into my thoughts out of nowhere, as I pursued Princess Blind.
"Is it today?" I asked, feeling completely caught off guard by the sudden revelation.
"That smell... It's driving me insane!" Arsa's voice clawed at my senses, threatening to overwhelm me as he fought for control.
"Arsa, focus for fu*k's sake, will you? We need to teach this entitled bit*h a lesson she'll never forget!" I growled, struggling to keep his overpowering presence at bay.
"Mate!" Arsa's voice practically screamed in my head.
"WHO?" I blurted out, panic rising within me, even though, deep down, I already knew the answer.
"Kyrah..." Arsa's voice echoed in the depths of our mate bond, a weighty truth hanging in the air.
"NO! IT CAN'T BE HER!" I exclaimed, feeling the ground give way beneath me as I collapsed to the earth, the weight of the revelation crushing me.
"But it is her!" Arsa insisted, the truth of our bond ringing clear in every word.
"NO, MY MATE CAN'T BE THIS GOOD-FOR-NOTHING PRINCESS!" I protested vehemently, the frustration and disbelief evident in my voice as I rejected the reality laid bare before me.
Before I could fully process the revelation, a spine-chilling howl shattered the night's silence, reverberating through the air like a warning. Following close behind, the earth shook with the thunderous approach of pounding paws, closing in on Kyrah's vulnerable position.
My eyes widened in horror, adrenaline surging through my veins as instinct took over. Without a second thought, I sprang to my feet, racing to Kyrah's side at lightning speed, I didn't know I possessed. I yanked her behind me just as the creature loomed closer, its menacing snarl echoing in the stillness of the night.
With every muscle in my body tensed, I unleashed a powerful punch, the force of it sending the creature hurtling backward, its surprised yelp barely audible over the chaos of the moment. I marveled at my own agility, surprised by how swift and decisive my movements had been, despite my bulky form.
But there was no time for contemplation as the creature recovered quickly, springing back to its feet and launching itself at us once more. In the blink of an eye, Arsa seized control, guiding my actions as I lunged towards the beast, my body shifting seamlessly into his blue wolf with rare violet eyes, ready to meet the threat head-on, despite his not-so-impressive size.
With a fierce roar, Arsa lunged forward, sinking his teeth into the massive beast's flesh and sending it hurtling through the air, crashing into a nearby tree with a resounding thud. The creature shook off the impact, its eyes gleaming with fury as it unleashed a menacing growl, undeterred by the temporary setback.
It charged forward once more, its massive form barreling towards Kyrah with terrifying speed. It was as if we were nothing more than an insignificant flea in its path, but Kyrah appeared to be its sole target. Arsa leaped into action, attempting to intercept the beast's path, but it effortlessly vaulted over us, its sights set on Kyrah's vulnerable neck.
Questions swirled in my mind amidst the chaos. Why was this creature targeting a blind girl, and how did it even know she would be there, in the heart of the academy? But amidst the confusion, a primal instinct stirred deep within us at the sight of our mate in danger.
With a deafening howl, Arsa launched himself at the beast, twisting midair to shield our blind mate from its oncoming attack. As we swung through the air, a transformation began to take hold, our body expanding and growing to an astonishing 35-foot height. By the time our massive paws touched the ground, we towered over the menacing creature, shielding Kyrah beneath our colossal form.
With a powerful swipe of our paw, we struck the beast's head, tearing it from its body with a sickening crunch. The severed head tumbled to the ground a few feet away, while the rest of the creature slumped lifelessly to the ground.
"Is that you, Romick?" Came her voice from under our gigantic form.
"You are welcome," I stated plainly once I'd transformed back to my human form.
"As if I asked for your help!" She said before walking away.
That Brat!
