Dean
I couldn't fall asleep that night. Kate's kiss still burned my heart and I missed her immediately. The intensity of my feelings and the yearning to hold her in my arms again scared me sincerely. They didn't seem healthy, they resembled wanting to possess her instead of loving her only. I wanted to break something and run as fast as I could in fear of crossing a line I won't be able to return from. On top of that I just heard from my father that he was as old as time almost... And that my mother tricked Death? Next morning I walked down to the living room feeling like a piece of cloth that had been tossed around and squeezed till dry. Mom and dad were already sitting in the living room and waiting for me. Mom gave me a cup of coffee and they waited till drank it and regained some of my awareness.
- Good morning my dear! - mom said, I forced a smile on my face.
- Morning mom, dad. - Dad nodded towards me in response and we remained solent for a few more minutes.
- Do you have any questions regarding what you heard yesterday? - dad asked and I looked into his eyes, that resembled the burning fire.
- Well, I've got a few. First of all, how did you two meet? What is this trial of the Reaper's wife? Was mom created by grandpa for you? - mom laughed and her laughter made the atmosphere warmer in a second.
- It's a long story. - dad said and I shrugged.
- I've got time. - he shook his head with a smirk on his lips. Dad leaned back on the black sofa and mom scooted closer to him.
- In this case, listen carefully. - and he started
- A few centuries after your Aunt created humans, I've watched them find their purpose of life, falling in love, and making families. I found it always as the most beautiful things that had been ever created. That thing the humans called love. This force that makes you do the most incredible things even some that you are incapable of. I found it fascinating, that such simple creatures that evolved in front of my eyes from the sparks of my sister's creativity, they lived a life I wanted. Love also means to feel this intense affection for someone, they said. I thought I'd never feel anything similar as I was the one who should've ended their happiness by taking their loved ones away when the time came. With the advance of human intelligence they became greedy, the paradise Life created slowly got painted into red. They couldn't appreciate what they got and wanted more, humans started killing each other for imaginary reasons, creating religions and laws that were also sources of several conflicts. Their languages changed so they couldn't understand each other properly creating a sense of belonging to their own tribes, and what they later called countries. I had to create a place in my realm where the ones who committed sins had to stay for eternity after their time on Earth was over. These sins increased with time, and they forgot to cherish Life itself. They acted as their time was limitless and slowly I lost all my interest in humans and in love itself. The feeling I wanted to experience so badly, was just a miracle for a while on Earth. I saw it from time to time. In the eyes of those who lost the person who they wanted the most. I've seen love in the eyes of soldiers who were terrified to loose the one they truly cherished and to protect that person they were ready to die. I tried to persuade Life to eradicate humans for once and all, and start over again. But she got so amazed by these creatures and their affection, by the ones with outstanding kindness and powerful loves that she didn't allow me to end the hell she created. I wanted to show her that the love she adored so much was nothing but a facade. That's when I met her... And I finally understood how terrified a man could be who is about to loose the one he loved. - I watched my father holding mom's hand, he kissed her hand and looked into her eyes with a remorseful gaze. She just smiled and caressed his scarred face.
- It's okay. - she said and dad kissed her hand again before turning back to me and saying.
* Memories of Grim*
- I was walking of a bridge around the end of seventeenth century, at night on the streets of London and there she was. Dressed in black lace, with her skin white as snow and eyes sparkling like gold. She was just sitting on the railing of the bridge looking down at the waves. That young woman looked like she just came from a funeral, but she was calm. I approached her carefully and that's when I noticed that her soul was sitting next to her. I've never seen anything similar, she was still alive despite that her soul left her body.
- Fascinating isn't it? - she asked in a serene voice and I halt in my stand. She turned towards me, but only her soul looked into my eyes. I felt like I'd been struck by a lightning. Those golden eyes resembled the stars on the sky, her lips like rose petals and despite being technically half dead, I never seen a person more alive.
- How? - that's all I could ask and she shrugged.
- This body of mine is terminally ill, it had been ever since I was born in it. There's nothing I could've done. So here we are waiting for the end to come and who knows? I might be able to come back in another life, in a better time. - I took a seat next to her and watched the sunrise together without saying another word. She sighed as the sun touched her skin and a tear run down on her body's cheek.
- I'll miss this feeling, how the sun warms my skin. - she said. We heard a heartbreaking scream and a young man ran towards her. Her face turned towards him and smiled kindly.
- Be good Benjamin...-she whispered and her soul got separated from her body totally. Her eyes closed and before her body could've fall into the lake, the man she called Benjamin caught it and held gently in his arms. He hugged her and cried, cursing life and cursing me for taking her away. That moment, the woman's soul locked her arm with mine.
- Let's go... - she said and I heard the pain in her voice. I got amazed by her strength and I had to admit to myself, that I fell in love with her the moment she first looked at me. Her soul was so pure... Probably the most beautiful one I've ever seen. Sparkling like gold under the warm rays of sun. I wanted her for myself, I wanted her to stay and to look at me with the same eyes she looked at that human. But seeing her like that, broke my heart at the same time. I've sighed and turned her to face me.
- What's your name? - I've asked and she smiled sweetly.
- Does it matter anymore?
- Yes, it matters to me. So? - her eyes widened at me and she swallowed hardly before saying.
- Donna... - I've kissed her forehead and felt my own soul shatter.
- Live, Donna.
- But my time is over... - she muttered and I smiled at her while the sun painted everything colorful.
- The world needs the beauty your soul holds and despite that I feel that I want you, I won't take the beautiful things he got. Take care Donna... - that moment her soul got suck back into her body and she opened her eyes. Benjamin laughed and cried at the same time and I've taken one last glance into the golden eyes that showed me, there is still love in Earth...
- I have a question... - I said and they smiled.
- Go on. - mom waited with expectation.
- If dad gave your life back, how is it possible that you are together? - mom giggled.
- Well... That's the rest of our story.
