I watched my parents lost in each other's eyes for a moment before dad turned to me again and mom cleared her throat.
*Memories of Donna*
- So, after your father gave me another chance, my illness was gone. I lived a happy and full life with my fiance Henry, but I couldn't get your father out of my mind anymore. I wondered what we would've been if he took me away back then. I lived a life every human would dream about. We had children with Henry and we grow old together on the porch of our little house in the end of the city. We watched countless sunsets and sunrises, but each sunrise reminded me of that black haired, handsome man, whose eyes resembled the burning fire. After several decades, when my time came again, I was looking for it with anticipation. My Henry left years earlier, leaving me with memories and the love he gave me. Meeting your father again was something I was looking forward to in my last years of life and I thought in my last moments "If it had been a different me in a different place and time..." For my biggest surprise and disappointment, I didn't meet your father when I died. Instead after closing my eyes for the last time, I fell in a slumber that felt eternal, until one day, a gorgeous woman appeared. She held me in her arms and smiled with her sparkling eyes. They looked like the depth of the ocean and the shore of the sea. Her skin was light green and her hair had all kind of colorful flowers in it.
- Oh! Who do we have here? - she asked me and I've desperately shouted my name hoping she was someone close to your father. From her appearance and the feeling that surrounded me being close to her, I knew.
- Donna! My name is Donna! - she smiled kindly and hugged me.
- So conscious! Fascinating! Okay Donna, I'll grant you a wish.
- I want to meet someone! He came at my final hours and gave me a new life. I want to meet him again and if I get another chance, spend it all by his side. - her eyebrows frowned but with a careless smile she shrugged and water surrounded me. I heard her saying before I got blinded by a strong light "This is going to be really interesting!". I was reborn. The world changed a lot since I was first alive and it took me years to adapt. To accept and understand that others don't have memories of their previous lives. I was born with blonde hair and golden eyes, my new parents were very kind and loving people who did everything possible for me. But all I could think about, despite everything that they gave me, was death. I spent hours in the library and joined different weird groups to get a closer understanding of your father and to finally meet him again. When I turned eighteen, my new mother passed away and in a few years my father followed her leaving me alone in this new world. I was preparing for his funeral, when I spotted a dress in a Vintage store's window. It was almost the spitting image of the one I wore when we met. I've walked in and bought it. I felt a bit guilty that I couldn't mourn those people who gave their lives for my happiness. But with my memories of the past, I couldn't consider them my real parents and this left a space between us during my whole life. A few hours after my father's funeral, I walked in the cemetery, in my black lace dress and my eyes stopped at a gravestone. A tall man, in black cloak was standing in front of it. The surface of the grave was covered in dozens of purple flowers. I approached carefully and could read the name on the stone.
" Mrs. Donna Carson. Born 1789 - Died 1867. Loving mother and spouse." - I gasped and realized who the man was there. With a trembling hand I've touched his shoulder and he shivered by the unexpected touch.
- I'm sorry. - he said and when he looked into my eyes I saw a tear running down his cheek. He looked the same despite the fact that I was someone different, he recognized me.
- Did you know her? - I asked tricking your father. He nodded kindly and took a deep breath looking down on my grave.
- She is the most gorgeous soul living on Earth. - I leaned closer to look into his eyes and asked.
- Is? - finally he turned to me, without saying another word he pulled me close and hugged me as if his existence depended on me. I buried my face in his shoulder and whispered.
- Took you long enough! - he giggled and that time your father didn't care about the laws that formed our world for centuries.
- I didn't want to interfere, you were so happy. - he said and I kissed him without hesitation. After our kiss I looked deeply into his eyes and said.
- I've missed you.
- I missed you too, my Bella Donna. - he caressed down my hair and the golden locks turned black. The differences in my appearance turned into the old ones and as if time had stopped the day we met, we faced each other again. We sat down resting our heads against my gravestone and I picked a flower.
- Are these your doing? - your father nodded and pulled me closer.
- I couldn't forget you. I wanted to create something living like my sister, something that bares your name, to make you that way eternal. That's when, after countless trials, I've finally managed to create this flower. It is gorgeous, but poisonous, since it grew first on your grave, humans started calling it Belladonna.
- I love them! Thank you for not forgetting me. - he kissed me and we watched the sunset for the first time together. When the sky turned black and starts shined brightly the eager question I had in my heart, finally left my lips.
- So, what will we do now? - your father stood up, he offered me his hand and once I was on my feet as well, he kneeled down.
- Donna, you showed me that there's still love, good and hope on Earth. I've loved you for centuries and never loved another. I've searched for you in every living soul, now that I found you again, please, allow me to be greedy this time. I love you Donna, please, be mine for an eternity and allow me to adore you till the end of existence. - After that proposal of course I said yes! - she finished the story giggling. *
Mom looked into my father's eyes again and I could picture that moment. She caressed his face, he kissed her palm keeping his eyes locked with hers.
- So we married according to Earth's rules but little did we know that our trials started on the day when the Death married a still living soul.
