Welcome home

1314 Words
Dean Kate was sitting by my side again after we have gathered her belongings. The little plush otter was on her lap. She kept hugging it, while she was looking out of the window, as we drove further and further from the place she knew as home. Soon the sun started to set, painting the city in crimson red and burnt orange, that was when dad finally turned right and parked at our house. It was at the outskirts of the city, surrounded by huge fields that we owned. I saw Kate's eyes widen as we drove along the long road, decorated with different statues till we arrived to the main gate. The old metal doors, which were forged into the shape of an apple tree slowly opened letting us through. Dad took a tiny round around the fountain in front of the house and parked the car. - We have arrived. - he said and got out of the car, mom turned to us and smiled kindly at the shocked Kate. - Welcome home sweety pie! - she said and got out as well. I got out and opened the door for Kate, taking her bags in my hands. She held onto her plushie and I could tell that she felt afraid. I gently bumped her in her shoulder and when Kate was finally looking into my eyes I've said. - Don't be afraid. - she laughed awkwardly and rolled her eyes. Even if she didn't say a word I knew what was in her mind. We walked into the house and I heard her softly gasp. Everything was made out of black, different shades of grey and white marble as well as expensive fabrics. Dad groaned and mom hugged his shoulders. - Calm down love! - she said with a funny smirk. - I can't believe Life! I told her... Something simple, comfortable... What is this? It looks like a mansion! - mom walked next to a sculpture and leaned against it posing like muse. - Isn't it splendid? - she asked with faked elegance and Kate only got more confused. Dad rolled his eyes and turned to Kate. - Don't be afraid. - I've chuckled, knowing that this sentence didn't work at all either before. Dad snapped his fingers and the mansion shrunk. It turned into a Victorian style, one floor house. The cold marble turned into dark wood, the expensive grey wall carpets disappeared and turned into a wine red wall paint. The white curtains embroidered with gold, turned into simple white ones. The sculpture mom was leaning on, became a comfy chair and she ended up hopping into it. The house got filled with books, comfortable furniture and pictures of our family. Dad nodded happily once he was done. - Much better! Only one thing is missing. - with that, he moved his hands and a crystal vase appeared next to mom's new chair, on a tiny white table. Inside, a bouquet of all the flowers dad created for mom in the past centuries. Mom sniffed them and looked at dad, with her eyes full of love. He kissed the back of her hand and they turned to us. - What are you waiting for kiddos? Go upstairs and choose a room, we'll take care of the decorations after that. - Kate's legs grew roots into the floor. She was unable to move and only shivered when I touched her shoulder. - Sorry... - she said and I shook my head. - I know this is a lot, we were supposed to arrive to a simple house, but Aunty took another extra mile as usual. Let's go! - I held her hand and pulled Kate gently after me. We soon found two bedrooms next to each other. - Which one do you prefer? - I asked and Kate stepped inside the one on the left near the stairs. Right now, the room was still empty, only a huge, double sided window was illuminating the space. - This one. - she said and I've nodded putting her luggage down and left her alone for a bit. I went to my room and with the movement of my hands, everything from my original room appeared inside. After a few minutes, I've checked on Kate who was standing in the window, looking out at the fields, still full of wild flowers. - Do you like it? - I've asked in a low voice not to scare her more. She nodded slowly. - Is there anything you miss? - she nodded again. - What? - Trees. - that's all she said and I gave a peck on her cheek. - I'll let Aunty know, mom will come to help you with your room. - Kate nodded and I sighed leaving her to my mother's care. Donna I met Dean in the middle of the stairs, he kept looking back towards the bedrooms. - She is scared. - he said and I caressed his head. - Of course my dear. She is a human, it took me ages to get used to my powers and your father's abilities! Not to mention when you were still a baby and started to show signs of your powers. - Dean chuckled and hurried down the stairs. - Where are you going? - I've asked and he smiled. - To ask Aunty for a few trees! - I smiled after him and climbed the rest of the stairs. Kate was standing in the window motionless, holding her plushie like a terrified little girl. I've knocked on the open door and she looked at me. - May I come in? - she nodded. - So, I know this is a lot to comprehend and accept. We really want you to feel at home, so, let's make this room into the one you always dreamed about! - Kate smiled. - Could it look as I want? - I tilted my head hearing her question and smiled at her encouragingly. - Anything you want. - her eyes finally sparkled a little and as Kate said I've turned her room into the bedroom of her dreams. Under the window we made a little reading corner, with a bookshelf under the seat. The walls got painted with a really light green, while she wanted white flooring. Kate got a big double winged wardrobe and a huge comfy bed with green and orange bedding, full of decor pillows. She didn't want curtains, only window shields. Soon the room was done and she sat down at the little seating in the huge windows. Suddenly Kate's eyes started to fill with life and she smile widely. - What are you looking at so happily? - I've asked. - He is so cute! Look Donna! - she said with enthusiasm and I stepped behind her looking out of the window. I saw Life trying to show Dean how to create a maple tree, unfortunately, for him only willows grew. - He is trying hard to make you feel comfortable. - I've said and I saw Kate blush. - I know. I'm really sorry for acting so cold. It's just...-she started apologizing and I sat next to her, holding Kate's hands. - Darling, it's overwhelming, and we understand that. This is your home now, and we are your family if you want it too. You have a special place in my son's heart and life, I only wish that you both will find out sooner or later what you truly desire. - I kissed her forehead gently and got up. From the door, I heard her mumbling. - Thank you for everything. - It's only natural my dear. Dinner is in an hour, we'll give you some space until then. - I said closing the door behind me and crossing my fingers for their lovely relationship to bloom.
