Chapter 6: Choice Is Yours (2) *** Inside the club the atmosphere instantly felt off… there were too many eyes on us… And usually I wouldn’t pay it any mind, except it looked like they were only staring at me and not at Jeca at all… “You’re really pretty today, everyone is eyeing you.” Jeca complimented me but somehow I wasn’t convinced. “Really? Cause it feels like murderous stares instead of such of admiration or anything…” I said offhandedly and Jeca’s expression changed for a split second, enough for me to notice but not enough for her to make a big deal out of it. “Haha, you’re quite funny as well.” Jeca simply remarked with the same careless smile she had plastered on before. “So about that person… what’s his name? What does he work?” She proceeded to ask me about Daniel again but I hesitated to reply. “You don’t even know that much about him?” Jeca asked me, it felt more condescending than before when she spoke in a lower voice. “It’s just, I don’t think it’s okay for me to say to someone he doesn’t know…” I sort of halfway made up an excuse and Jeca seemed to accept it. We spoke for a while longer until someone walked in the room, two guys that were both taller and wider than I thought humanly possible. “Is this the girl?” One of them asks while glancing at me, he haad the sort of confident smile I disliked. “Yeah, she’s Daniel’s new toy, how fun, right?” Jeca remarked while smiling gleefully. “Wait, I never told you his name…” Maybe I should have had alarms run in my head a while ago but it was just right now that they started blaring. I realized I wasn’t safe here, not with Jeca or those two that walked into the room. “Don’t worry, we won’t hurt you or anything, we just want to use you to lure him in…” Jeca reassured me with a smile on her face, one of the large men stood by the door, making sure I can’t escape and the other stood next to Jeca as if to protect her. Not that there was anything I could do at that moment. “What are you guys?” I asked hesitantly while looking at them, I was sure they were vampires, and that would explain everything to me but then her answer surprised me. “We’re hunters.” Jeca confidently declared. “Genetically modified to assure we catch our pray, as you can tell by the way these two look.” She pointed to the two men, and truthfully although they seemed human I had that uncanny feeling when I looked at them that something wasn’t right. “So… you too?” I asked, I was surprised, the girl I used to work on a random project was a hunter. “Of course, in fact I was send by your grandfather to help you. Though I’m sure he would be disappointed to know you’re dating one of them…” The way Jeca spat out with venomous intent the end of her sentence sent shivers down my spine, just why was any of this happening? Why now out of all times? “To think… you’re from a family of world class hunters and you can’t even kill a single vampire? Instead you fall for this tricks…” Jeca said while she scoffed in my direction. “What tricks?” I asked, genuinely confused. “Vampires can lure humans in, their sweet words, their hypnotic eyes, they’re specific scent… all of it is used to convince you to trust them. And then they devour you completely.” Jeca explained while crossing her arms, she spoke as if this was common knowledge to anyone with a brain. While I stood there in shock. It was strange… wasn’t it? The fact I fell for him so quickly, I thought it was because he saved me but… could it be as she said? “You’re starting to realize all this just now? To think you’re even still alive should be a miracle… or rather a nasty accident.” Jeca continued to spat out her venomous words but it didn’t compute with my brain anymore. None of it did… I was too preoccupied with how much I genuinely thought to like Daniel only to be told it was all a lie… It hurt for some reason… “Hey, do you think she had good blood?” Suddenly one of the men asked, the one standing at the door. “Haha, you wanna sell it?” Jeca chuckled as if it was genuinely funny but her following words made me feel even more uncomfortable. “Since it is hunter’s blood it would fetch a big price…” She looked at my body as if I was a product in a store that she was examining for faults. She came towards me and grabbed my hair. “Let’s try it, let’s extract a bit of blood and see how much we can get for it.” Before I realized what was happening, there was medical equipment. Since I’ve never really given blood before, not even in the hospital, this was the first time I’ve seen something like that… “Wait, back off!” I began struggling as if everything around me had turned far too real for comfort. “Come on, you were so obedient until now and you’re acting like this is a big deal. You’ve probably let Daniel suck your blood before, right?” Jeca spoke in such a confident tone of voice. “I haven’t!”I yelled and tried to struggle my way out of it but it wasn’t possible at all. I was being held down by one of the guys while Jeca prepared the needle. “You’re joking…” Jeca suddenly paused and stared at me. “He hasn’t drank your blood yet?” She asked with wide eyes as if it truly was surprising. “He hasn’t, he really hasn’t!” I yelled again until I finally pried my arms away from the tall man who looked no less in shock than Jeca was. “Then… have we completely wasted our time here?” The other man standing by the door asked in bewilderment. “There’s no way Daniel has taken in a hunter and not tried her blood yet… except…” Jeca looked at me again, at that moment I had no idea if somehow I’d saved myself or dug myself into a deeper hole than I was in before that… “Now we must take your blood, if not for profit then for research.” Jeca insisted as she gestured to the guy to hold me down again but I ran towards the window and threatened to jump from it. “Can you though?” Jeca gave me a look and a smirk as the tall guy walked towards me with a casual pace, they didn’t seem to care whether I lived or died, so what could I do? I glanced down as if to gauge how high it was when I saw him there, Daniel was right outside. I didn’t even think twice at that moment. “Daniel!” I yelled out to get his attention, he was on a phone call but upon hearing my voice he turned to glance at the window, at that moment I jumped and I could see the tall man’s hand stretched out through the window as he had tried to grab me. As I was falling down everything felt like it was moving in slow motion… I could feel the wind against my skin but my ears were unable to hear anything as if I was deaf… I was moving so fast towards the ground yet to me it felt like it wasn’t fast enough. My eyes couldn’t even focus on anything as I was staring at the sky above me… This wasn’t the way I thought I’d spend a Friday night… The longer I was in the air, the more I felt like I really wasn’t moving at all, the thing about your life flashing before your eyes in movies is total bullshit… but then yet it’s not like I was dying… Because although Jeca had made me doubt him… The second I saw Daniel standing outside… even if he wasn’t aware I was there… the way he instantly responded to me… I felt like I was safe…
