Chapter Sixteen Lee was locked to her seat. One of the men had gathered up her hair and was boldly trickling his fingers along the back of her neck. And on the opposite side, a knuckle stroked her cheek. Lee’s eyes widened. She wanted to jump straight up, like one of those cartoon cats, and hang from the ceiling by her nails. But she dumbly sat, whimpering, her breath coming in ragged scraps. There was movement from a seat several rows down. A woman straightened and Lee clearly heard the snap of her purse. The men behind heard it too and chuckled, their attention momentarily diverted. Now was her chance, but before Lee could rise from her seat, the woman in front stood and, clutching a tissue to her lips, moved quickly toward the doors. Everyone turned to watch her go.
