Chapter Seventeen It was late in the day and Lee was at her desk but thinking of home, a hot shower and a late dinner of grilled chops, when her cell phone warbled. It was Margo. Lee sighed when she thought of her chops sitting in the fridge but was also curious; what mischief had the woman been up to? “I thought you might like to go for a ride,” Margo said. “It’s branding season out at the farm and their doing a young heifer tonight. I knew you would want to watch.” “A heifer. That’s a young female cow, isn’t it?” “You catch on quickly, my dear. I’ll pick you up at eight.” She didn’t give Lee a chance to respond. Lee disconnected and checked her desk clock. She could work for another hour and hit Distractions for dinner and a bottle of wine and then meet Margo. The evening might work
