In the car, the educator that Hailey brought immediately took over Alex, giving him plenty of new toys to keep him occupied. Alex was quickly distracted and forgot all about Cathy.
Hailey hugged me tightly, her eyes red with worry as she looked at my pale face. "Nina, are you okay?"
I nodded vigorously, holding back my emotions. If I spoke, I feared I'd break down completely.
