“Good, you know I’d never let you do anything you would regret,” Drake said, reassuring his friend.
“I know that I just didn’t think it would be this hard to control.” He answered not looking up from his work, “I thought it would be like you and your wolf, you always seem so in control.”
“My wolf has been part of me since birth, it wasn’t forced on me like your demon. I know you don’t realize this, but my wolf is a gift. Your demon is a curse.” Drake said leaning back rubbing his eyes.
“Oh, I do realize it, I just didn’t before,” Owen said making some notations on the file in front of him and signing his name. He looked up at Drake, “So we’re heading to Moonlight tonight? I plan to work late, but I want to send Abby home early.”
“Or we could call her back in here and lock the door?” Drake said, smirking and waggling his eyebrows suggestively at his friend. “Maybe bend her over the desk, or take her against the wall?”
“While those do sound like appealing ideas, we need to talk to Nikki first,” Owen said smirking at Drake’s suggestions, they really did sound like an appealing idea. Also, like a lawsuit waiting to happen, and he didn’t want that. Owen shook his head, “I won’t do that to someone, cheating. Even if she knows it isn’t serious.”
“That’s what I wanted to talk with you about, I think she’s getting other ideas about our feelings,” Drake said.
“Why would you think that?” Owen asked curiously. “We told her from the beginning that it wasn’t serious, she’s not your mate.”
“I know,” Drake said taking a deep breath, he wanted to tell Owen that Abby was his mate. He didn’t want to hurt his lover, though. It wouldn’t change anything between the two men. He still didn’t want his friend getting hurt. He didn’t mind the idea of sharing Abby with the vampire. Drake knew that Owen was still learning to control his demon and taking a lover during this time was a bad idea. He could handle it though, he was an Alpha. Drake was strong enough to be able to take anything the demon could give, even things that would kill a human.
His friend hadn’t asked for this curse, and it was Drake’s responsibility to look after him. He would make sure his friend learned the control he needed. Growing up they had always looked out for one another and death wouldn’t be able to stop that.

It was late in the afternoon when Owen and Drake made their way out of the office. Abby had finished up the massive stack of paperwork that had been left for her and started working on other little tasks around the office to keep herself busy.
“Abby have you had lunch yet?” Drake asked as he moved closer towards her desk. Her body responded before she could, her stomach rumbling loudly.
“No, not yet.” She smiled sheepishly, embarrassed at her stomach’s response to the mention of food.
“Why didn’t you let us know you were hungry?” Owen asked, looking worriedly at his secretary, he wanted her to be comfortable around him. He didn’t want her nervous and too afraid to tell him her needs whatever they may be.
“Oh, um, I’m okay.” Abby said, smiling nervously. She really didn’t have the money to grab lunch, if she had known that she was getting the job today she would have brought something from home.
“Well, we were just about to grab something.” Drake said to her, “But Owen got called away and I hate to eat alone. Do you mind joining me? It’ll be my treat.”
“I couldn’t ask you to do that, I’ll be fine.” She said not wanting to let him know that she was broke.
“You should just go with him, he won’t stop til you do.” Owen said with a chuckle and tossed Drake his wallet, “Grab me something too.”
“I guess it would be okay if it’s okay with you.” She said looking at Owen to make sure he was fine with her having lunch with his partner. She didn’t want her boss getting any ideas that she might be interested in his lover.
Abby grabbed her purse and slung it over her shoulder as she followed both men to the elevator. She looked down smiling, her new boss was really nice.
The elevator dinged as it reached their floor and they all got in, Abby standing in between the two men. She looked between the two men. Was it her or did the small elevator suddenly become much warmer?
Drake leaned forward to press the button that would take them to the lobby. When he leaned back his hand brushed against the back of her hand. She felt sparks at his innocent touch; she knew that it was an accident, but that didn’t stop her libido.
Abby snuck a look at her boss. His jaw was clenched, teeth gritted tightly together, and his face looked tense. She tried to take a step away from Drake, not wanting to upset anything between the two men. Cringing as she mis-stepped and bumped against Owen’s shoulder.
She knew she was a walking train-wreck at that moment; she heard Drake take a deep breath, and she was pretty sure her new boss just growled at her.
Crap, it seemed like she was mucking things up.
“I’m sorry, it’s a small space and I’m trying not to bother either of you. And small space, I’ll be quiet now,” She cringed again. Could she put her foot in her mouth anymore?

Drake felt it the moment her hand brushed his, that spark making arousal flare through him. He looked over her head, feeling the tension his lover felt at being in a small space with something he craved and being unable to act on it. Drake knew that Owen would be struggling with his demon, f**k. He shouldn’t have goaded him earlier, planting seeds of desire. He hoped letting Owen feed off him had been enough for his friend to keep his demon in check. Then he felt her move closer to the vampire.
He quickly turned to look at his friend. The vampire was tense and hanging on by a thread as Abby sputtered out an apology.
Golden eyes looked over the top of her head towards him. The eyes of a predator warning him to stay away from its prey stared back at him from the familiar face of his friend.
At least Owen could keep his face from shifting into that of his demon. That was a small victory. He leaned over towards Abby, “Has Harris gotten you your name badge yet?” He asked.
She turned to look at him, “No, not yet.” She answered, looking at him in confusion.
